SALTO Systems launches Neo Cylinder access control solution for end users

SALTO Systems, the manufacturer of electronic access control solutions, has released the SALTO Neo Cylinder – a new electronic cylinder that, according to the company, “offers more features and better functionality” for end users than any other cylinder currently on the market.

The compact SALTO Neo Cylinder is designed for doors where fitting an electronic escutcheon is not possible or required. In fact, it can be installed on standard doors, server racks, gates, cabinets, electric switches and sliding doors.

The SALTO Neo Cylinder provides an effective and convenient way of securing a building or assets. The clutch system is energy efficient, dropping power consumption to impressively low levels resulting in 100,000/130,000 operations from just one set of batteries. Standby power consumption is also reduced, further extending battery life.

The IP66-rated SALTO Neo Cylinder is weather-resistant, rendering it suitable for outdoor use, even in the harshest of environments. Inside the Neo Cylinder is the latest in electronic lock technology. Certified to the highest security standards, and “incorporating ever-higher quality and reliability”, the SALTO Neo Cylinder “offers value far beyond security”. It also provides greater control over the door by offering end users access to audit trails, reports and alerts.

Thanks to smart keys and mobile technology, the SALTO Neo Cylinder enables users to manage access rights quickly and on a keyless basis (which, states the company, is more secure than using mechanical keys). Additional flexibility, convenience and operational efficiency are provided by the Neo Cylinder’s wireless technology.

Keyless access

“SALTO’s new Neo Cylinder technology provides customers, systems operators and installers alike with new features and the ability to connect keyless access where we couldn’t have justified wiring a door before,” said Marc Handels, chief technology innovation officer at SALTO Systems.

Handels added: “We’ve seen for years now that electronic locking technology is an ecosystem subject to continuous change and growth. We have had to consider how to best anticipate customers’ needs and develop smart locking solutions that are easy to adopt and install. The SALTO Neo Cylinder has more functionality and performance capability than any other cylinder on the market, allowing businesses to connect to their on-premises network via advanced SVN technology or the cloud with the SALTO KS cloud-based access management platform.”

As the SALTO Neo Cylinder is compatible with SALTO SVN, SALTO BLUEnet Wireless and the SALTO KS (Keys-as-a-Service) cloud-based technology, it can be switched to any of SALTO’s technology platforms at any time without changing hardware. It also includes SALTO SVN-Flex technology, which increases the capability, efficiency and reliability of SALTO SVN, in turn yielding better security, control and convenience for end users and their installations. This allows businesses to decide which technology fits better with their day-to-day security, operational and IT needs.

SALTO JustIN Mobile technology is also on-board every cylinder. This gives users and system administrators the capability to send or receive a mobile key to open any door or gate fitted with a SALTO Neo Cylinder via their iOS or Android Bluetooth or NFC-enabled smart phone. This adds “incredible convenience and efficiency” for end users. JustIN mobile app capability also complements the use of SALTO’s other management platforms, specifically the SALTO SPACE data-on-card management software or the aforementioned SALTO KS cloud solution.

Available from the beginning of this month, the SALTO Neo Cylinder delivers an easy-to-use electronic locking platform that integrates all physical security needs through smart, wireless and battery-operated smart cylinders, affording the host organisation all of the latest user access information for virtually any doors in their facility.

NATO selects BlackBerry’s encrypted voice technology for secure calls

The NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency has awarded a contract for BlackBerry’s SecuSUITE for Government to encrypt the conversations of its technology and cyber leaders wherever they communicate – in the workplace, at home or when travelling abroad.

The NCI Agency helps NATO’s 29 Member Nations communicate securely and work together in smarter ways. It acquires, deploys and defends communication systems for NATO’s political decision-makers and Command Centres, working on the front lines against cyber attacks. Due to the classified nature of the information the NCI Agency handles, it’s critical that all communications remain secure, combating any opportunity for a cyber criminal to electronically eavesdrop on conversations.

“As cyber criminals and state-sponsored actors become increasingly more sophisticated, we needed a highly secure way for our cyber leaders to have phone conversations with people inside and outside of our organisation regardless of where they are in the world,” said Kevin Scheid, general manager of the NCI Agency. “BlackBerry’s voice encryption technology helps solve this challenge and strengthens our elite cyber defence strategy.”

Dr Christoph Erdmann, senior vice-president of BlackBerry SecuSMART at BlackBerry, responded: “Eavesdropping on calls is one of the easiest ways to gain access to private information. We’re extremely proud that the NCI Agency, a world leader in the development and use of technology that keeps NATO nations secure, has put its trust in BlackBerry’s software to secure voice communication. No matter the operating system or ‘thing’ used to communicate, BlackBerry’s arsenal of cyber security technology ensures that our customers’ data remains private.”

Videx launches IP Intercom range for end users

Videx has launched IP intercoms that are ideal for a wide range of installations including office blocks, apartment complexes, hospitals and commercial buildings enabling the door entry system to use existing networks and save both cost and installation time.

The Videx IP system is available as a convenient kit and as an expandable system which can be customised to suit the needs of any building. 12 gauge, 316 grade stainless steel vandal-resistant entrance panels are available along with the popular 4000 Series modular style, all with a wide angle colour camera and with one call button up to a maximum of 42 and an input for an optional second camera.

Neil Thomas, national sales manager at Videx, said: “The beauty of IP systems over conventional systems is that they don’t need dedicated wiring infrastructure and can be used on new or existing networks. These networks can be shared with other technologies such as CCTV, access control, building management and many others.”

VidexIP

The kits includes a wall mount 6200 Series videophone and the entrance panel which is available in standard or vandal-resistant form with surface or flush mounting options. The videophone includes a touch screen 3.5” colour display enabling the end user to customise a range of settings as well as initiate calls to entrance points, neighbours and internally to other extensions with the facility to have up to 16 videophones in each apartment or office.

An event log can also be viewed on the videophone with a video capture feature to see missed callers. The kit includes a 1.25 A 12 V DC power supply which can be used to power the entrance panel, a lock release and the videophone if required. The videophone can also be powered via Power over Ethernet (POE) from a POE switch.

Thomas added: “IP systems are generally very flexible and can allow for connections over an unlimited distance while using existing LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and 3G/4G infrastructures and the Videx iOS and Android Apps. Installers are now very familiar with IP technologies allowing them to use existing knowledge and experience gained while installing other security systems such as access control and CCTV. IP systems offer greater flexibility to the installer, making it very simple to expand and alter a system as the need arises.”

Bespoke panel sizes are available upon request. Entrance panels and videophones all have two relay outputs, two inputs and RS485 connectivity which can be used for a variety of functions such as door/gate release and the activation of auxiliary functions.

Wavestore introduces free Mobile app for end users

To further enhance the flexibility and ease of use of its award-winning Video Management Software (VMS), Wavestore has introduced a free Mobile app to allow authorised end users to securely view live images or playback recorded video via a smart phone or tablet.

With organisations and businesses becoming increasingly concerned about the challenges around protecting confidential data, the WaveView Mobile app has been designed to provide verification via a Wavestore server’s public key that the person attempting to view the video is indeed an authorised user.

WaveViewMobileoniPADMini

“Despite a high level of security, end users will find that they can quickly log on to the WaveView Mobile app and they’ll find it very easy to use, making it ideal for people who are on the move or want to keep an eye on what’s going on at their premises out of hours,” said Julian Inman, product manager at Wavestore.

Wavestore has packed the WaveView Mobile app with user-friendly features such as the option to choose from different multi-camera layouts and the ability to select from a range of sub-titles to be displayed on screen, such as time, camera or server name.

Available free in iOS and Android versions from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store respectively, the WaveView Mobile App allows users to ‘time jump’ in order to instantly view recorded video. It also features pre-set and ‘gesture’ PTZ control.
