Videx launches IP Intercom range for end users

Videx has launched IP intercoms that are ideal for a wide range of installations including office blocks, apartment complexes, hospitals and commercial buildings enabling the door entry system to use existing networks and save both cost and installation time.

The Videx IP system is available as a convenient kit and as an expandable system which can be customised to suit the needs of any building. 12 gauge, 316 grade stainless steel vandal-resistant entrance panels are available along with the popular 4000 Series modular style, all with a wide angle colour camera and with one call button up to a maximum of 42 and an input for an optional second camera.

Neil Thomas, national sales manager at Videx, said: “The beauty of IP systems over conventional systems is that they don’t need dedicated wiring infrastructure and can be used on new or existing networks. These networks can be shared with other technologies such as CCTV, access control, building management and many others.”

The kits includes a wall mount 6200 Series videophone and the entrance panel which is available in standard or vandal-resistant form with surface or flush mounting options. The videophone includes a touch screen 3.5” colour display enabling the end user to customise a range of settings as well as initiate calls to entrance points, neighbours and internally to other extensions with the facility to have up to 16 videophones in each apartment or office.

An event log can also be viewed on the videophone with a video capture feature to see missed callers. The kit includes a 1.25 A 12 V DC power supply which can be used to power the entrance panel, a lock release and the videophone if required. The videophone can also be powered via Power over Ethernet (POE) from a POE switch.

Thomas added: “IP systems are generally very flexible and can allow for connections over an unlimited distance while using existing LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and 3G/4G infrastructures and the Videx iOS and Android Apps. Installers are now very familiar with IP technologies allowing them to use existing knowledge and experience gained while installing other security systems such as access control and CCTV. IP systems offer greater flexibility to the installer, making it very simple to expand and alter a system as the need arises.”

Bespoke panel sizes are available upon request. Entrance panels and videophones all have two relay outputs, two inputs and RS485 connectivity which can be used for a variety of functions such as door/gate release and the activation of auxiliary functions.

Xtralis ADPRO iRespond mobile app and Nano video transmitter victorious at 2015 PSI Premier Awards

The ADPRO iRespond mobile app and the HeiTel by Xtralis Nano video transmitter developed for body-worn cameras have won the Software/IT Product of the Year category at this year’s PSI Premier Awards run by Risk UK’s sister publication Professional Security Installer.

ADPRO iRespond is a mobile application designed for first responders to provide event notification and live remote video views at sites protected by ADPRO Remotely Managed Multi-Service Gateways (RMG) including the FastTrace 2 and iFT Series. Armed with a simple PIN issued by the Central Monitoring Station, first responders obtain recorded and live situational awareness of a threat such that risk is reduced and response is efficient and effective.

The HeiTel by Xtralis Nano transmitter provides for the reliable transmission of live and recorded video, bi-directional audio and GPS information over wireless technologies including 4G, LTE and CDMA mobile phone technology as well as satellite, Wi-Fi and broadband networks.

Digital Barriers launches Cloud Video Platform in wake of successful beta trials with key partners

Following on from successful beta trials involving key partners, Digital Barriers has announced the launch of its Cloud Video Platform (CVP). From launch, CVP provides automatic video alert verification, camera tampering alerts and face detection, all from a cloud service. In turn, this enables organisations of all sizes across both the commercial and public sectors to analyse their video more effectively and efficiently.

The volume of video being captured and stored by organisations is on the increase each and every year. Typically, it’s locked away within a corporate data repository. In truth, this video is rarely viewed or shared due to the cost and complexity of analysing it or viewing it at the point of need.

Using advanced video analytics, CVP can help organisations identify what’s important and compress live and recorded video such that it may be shared more easily, subsequently enhancing operational effectiveness.

CVP can also help Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs) reduce their number of false alarms through advanced analytics and enhancement tools over direct web services. Managers and operators are able to use CVP to quickly verify potential threats without significant installation or deployment costs, whereas in the past deploying such tools has been both time-consuming and expensive, leading to prolonged procurements and delayed implementations.

CVP has been designed to be easy to integrate. It’s highly efficient and is extremely cost-effective. The solution is designed to deliver genuine benefits to organisations, helping to make sense of the often limitless volumes of video being captured and stored. Importantly, CVP is able to operate on public, private and secure Government clouds.

Digital Barriers will launch new video analytic algorithms to CVP over the coming months, including its full facial recognition and Government-accredited intrusion detection analytics (designated SafeZone). Q&A: Professor Harald Haas discusses the security potential of Li-Fi

Following on from pureLiFi’s success demonstrating the new light-based data transfer system, Li-Fi, at the Smart Lighting Conference in Barcelona in May 2014, Professor Harald Haas (Chief Scientific Officer of pureLiFi) answers questions about the security potential of this new system for all sectors across Government, business and commerce.

What was the feedback from delegates at the Smart Lighting Conference in Barcelona?

“The lighting industry is moving to a much more services-based approach. The focus is on moving to a ‘Light as a Service’ business model. In this context, Li-Fi offers unprecedented capabilities that can be used as a differentiation within a very competitive industry. The general interest in the demonstration was very positive from a number of the participants and speakers, including the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer from Phillips, the VP of Research and Innovation with Osram, the Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice-President of Business Development with ARM, the CTO of GE Lighting as well as the President of Lutron Electronics.”

What commercial interest have you had in the system?

“The Li-1st system has been shipped to a number of organisations with interested parties including top companies in defence, aircraft manufacturing, underwater communications, hazardous environments, telecoms and many more. In fact, due to the high demand, pureLiFi has recently undergone a second production run of the Li-1st system.”

What are the challenges that you need to overcome to break into the market?

“There are numerous challenges to such a new technology, including the size of the device for desktop/consumer use, higher data rates and lower power consumption, inertia and maturity within the existing RF industry, addressing the retrofit market, introducing more publicly available implementations of the technology, identifying specific ROI for diverse markets and relevant entities and identifying appropriate price points for various markets, etc. However, none of these aspects is insurmountable. All of these challenges can be solved. The wireless industry was faced with similar obstacles in the early days. Today, wireless connectivity is everywhere.”

How do you aim to overcome these challenges?

“Li-Fi, as with many other technologies, must mature before it is readily available such that the price point, form factor, infrastructure and other aspects are well established. Our product roadmap is designed to match the evolving needs of our customers and track market demand. Active Li-Fi demonstrators are in development and due for completion later in 2014. We are targeting markets and applications where Li-Fi is not competing with traditional RF systems. Indeed, no new communications technology has completely replaced the existing one. Much like 4G complemented 3G, which complemented 2G and Wi-Fi complements mobile connectivity, in the longer-term Li-Fi will complement and augment established RF infrastructure.”

In which markets do you hope and expect to gain success at first?

“Li-Fi is likely to be applied initially in niche areas where existing wireless solutions are not practical. These include underwater communications, electromagnetic sensitive environments such as hospitals and petrochemical plants, businesses requiring highly data-secure environments and many more.”

Will you be working with other partners to bring it to market?

“Yes. The opportunities for technological advancement that Li-Fi offers are unprecedented. In addition, Li-Fi will create fundamental changes to many of the existing business models within a number of different sectors, including the lighting industry and telecoms. pureLiFi is creating an ecosystem of partners from diverse markets to facilitate the development, deployment and distribution of Li-Fi systems which in turn will foster the market growth of this emerging technology.”

What are pureLiFi’s next steps in further developing this technology?

“Technical development will focus on higher data rates, reduced power consumption and miniaturisation. The fully mobile and networked solution (Li-Flame) will be launched in the second half of this year. It should achieve even better data rates and greater versatility. The company is also establishing a number of technology demonstration projects across the UK with a wide range of partners.”
