Qognify and Bosch expand co-operation to deliver “new level” of interoperable security solutions

Qognify, the specialist in Big Data solutions for physical security and operations, has expanded the integration of Bosch network video security cameras and Qognify’s Situator and VisionHub, in turn providing customers with advanced technology and business benefits.

This ‘Best of Breed’ solution creates centralised management for the entire platform with direct integration of Bosch cameras to Situator (Situation Management/PSIM) and VisionHub (Video Management System).

The integration enhances security management and operational benefits by leveraging situation management, video and visualisation capabilities:

*Centralised control and management through Situator Direct integration between Bosch’s network video security cameras and Situator. The integration enables PTZ and PTZ-like control for moving and fixed cameras, automatic triggering of processes when pre-defined incidents occur based on pre-defined alarm rules using cameras’ built-in video analytics, playback via local camera storage and camera tampering detection.

*Advanced video management capabilities via Qognify VisionHub including de-warping The advanced integration of Bosch’s FLEXIDOME IP panoramic 7000 camera and Qognify’s VMS eliminates fish eye lens distortion, enabling 360° of view without blind spots and with an non-distorted overview image. Additionally, the PTZ-like control of the video allows end users to digitally pan, tilt and zoom in order to focus on details without losing the bigger picture. This advance support of de-warping means empowering the benefit from wide coverage using a single device, while having a “normal” view of an otherwise distorted or reversed image.

Qognify records the original camera stream and de-warps the video for viewing purposes, allowing each operator a unique view.

*Reduced storage and network bandwidth with VisionHubBosch Intelligent Dynamic Noise Reduction: A feature that optimises storage capacity and reduces network strain by using bandwidth only when needed. This enables the delivery of video analytics alarms based on pre-definable alarm rules from the camera to VisionHub and Situator. In addition, the integration supports the Qognify video analytics suite running centrally on the recorder, combining Bosch built-in (edge) video analytics with Qognify’s server-based video analytics. This offers customers maximum flexibility when designing a video analytics solution.

Dahua Technology signs distribution partnership with ADI

Dahua Technology, the manufacturer of video surveillance equipment, has signed a partnership agreement with ADI, which has the largest branch network for the distribution of security products in the UK.

ADI has its head office located in Bury, Greater Manchester, and is a global leader in the wholesale distribution of security and low-voltage equipment with over 200 international locations. ADI customers can now benefit from Dahua’s extensive range of end-to-end IP and analogue HD security solutions, including cameras, recorders, software, display and control solutions and video management software.

Dahua products are both innovative and scalable, with particular strength in IP-based communication.

Bosch makes video analytics at the edge a new built-in standard for all IP cameras

Escalating demand for highly-detailed, 24/7 video images produces colossal amounts of data which requires extensive transmission and storage capacity as well as time-consuming monitoring and assessment. With this in mind, Bosch Security Systems has announced the roll-out of video analytics inside its cameras (ie ‘at the edge’) as a standard feature. By enhancing both its existing and future IP cameras with this technology, Bosch will enable end users to effortlessly search through large amounts of video data and duly pinpoint the information that matters most to them.

In the next 12 months, Bosch Security Systems’ complete range of IP cameras will come fully-equipped with video analytics at the edge. Bosch’s Starlight family will be the first to feature a full suite of 15 of its new Essential Video Analytics, starting with the DINION IP Starlight 6000 fixed box and FLEXIDOME IP Starlight 6000 fixed dome cameras.

All top-of-the-line IP 7000 and IP 8000 Starlight cameras will come equipped with the company’s state-of-the-art Intelligent Video Analytics offering up to 17 different analytic possibilities for risk and security managers.

Video analytics inside the camera create an intelligent video security system using metadata, which means adding sense and structure to video data already at the point of capture (ie ‘at the edge’) and enabling each camera to operate independently.

Decentralising intelligence in this way eliminates a single point of failure (central analytics server), meaning that if one camera or encoder fails, the system maintains full performance. With built-in (or ‘edge’) analytics, each camera in the network can then interpret captured video data and alert end users of potential security threats in real-time based on configurable triggers.

Bosch launches latest variant of Starlight camera technology

Bosch Starlight cameras deliver the highest quality of relevant video surveillance, even in extremely low light conditions. From October, the Starlight portfolio will be even further enhanced thanks to improved light sensitivity, improved front and backlight compensation and higher frame rates as well as a wider choice of resolutions and form factors.

Another compelling enrichment is that all Bosch IP 6000, 7000 and 8000 Starlight cameras will feature Bosch video analytics at the edge as standard instead of an optional feature requiring no additional investment or license fees from the customer.

Bosch feels that offering video analytics at the edge as standard is now a necessity to cater for the ever-increasing demand for details and the proliferation of cameras. Bosch video analytics add sense and structure to video data already at the point of capture (at the edge), enabling end users to effortlessly search through large amounts of video data and pinpoint the information that matters most to them. In addition, the latest sensor technology, combined with sophisticated noise suppression, results in a light sensitivity of 0.0069 lux in colour and 0.0008 lux in monochrome for the 1080p models. This enables Starlight cameras to produce full colour images in the dark beyond the point where other cameras have switched to monochrome.

Where other cameras fail to show any image at all, Starlight cameras are still capable of delivering detailed monochrome images.

Video analytics at the edge

Bosch’s video analytics at the edge enables Starlight cameras to interpret data and decide what and when to stream based on configurable triggers, in turn minimising bandwidth requirements if needed. The end results are relevant alerts and key statistics which enhance the accuracy of the video surveillance system, providing relevant data for numerous security and non-security applications and substantially reducing the margin of error that comes with time-consuming and labour intensive 24/7 human surveillance.

VCA’s Bridge integrated with SureView’s Immix security management platform

VCA’s Bridge appliance, which instantly adds video analytics capability to any new or existing IP video surveillance camera system, has now been successfully integrated with SureView’s security management platform.

Supporting multiple camera channels, Bridge is an easy to deploy, low cost analytics appliance which is equipped with extensive back office tools to set detection zones for people and vehicles.

Using VCA’s video analytics engine, which has been successfully deployed worldwide in over 350,000 video channels, Bridge is able to detect movement within very small areas of a video image. As such, it can provide central station operators with a powerful ‘exception’ reporting tool to help them identify suspicious activity and, when appropriate, dispatch security officers or quickly report the incident to one of the Emergency Services. 

Filtering out false alarms

Bridge is designed to meet the challenge of detecting movement in outdoor locations as it will automatically adapt to varying light conditions and can easily be fine-tuned to minimise false alarms due to, for example, rustling trees or wildlife.

It will even continue to deliver a high level of performance when cameras may be swaying due to windy conditions.

In addition to capitalising on the benefits of analytics, the deep integration achieved means that operators using the Immix platform can view live images of any incident and exercise control over PTZ cameras. Other key elements of the integration include post-alarm video recording.

VCA’s analytics energise security and operations for oil and gas sector

Video analytics is increasingly being used as a powerful tool to help remotely monitor and protect vulnerable facilities such as gas and oil pipelines. According to Michael von Hauff, CEO of Osprey Informatics, it can also assist operations managers to improve productivity for the host organisation.

Event detection

VCA analytics, developed in the UK by a team of computer vision scientists, can detect movement within very small areas of a video image and provide operators with a powerful ‘exception’ reporting tool to help identify suspicious activity and, when appropriate, despatch security officers or quickly report the incident to one of the Emergency Services.

The ability to do this is significant as it’s widely acknowledged that operators can miss important events after monitoring video for more than 30 minutes or so. The possibility of this happening is increased when individual operators are tasked to view multiple screens.

Not to be confused with Video Motion Detection (VMD), which works on the basis of detecting changes in the light scales of pixels within a video image, VCA analytics is able to provide a far more reliable and accurate solution. It does so by analysing on a frame-by-frame basis the metadata related to the motion and properties of objects within a video stream. The result is a high detection rate and a dramatic reduction in the kind of false alarms that can be generated by VMD software.
