Videx launches IP Intercom range for end users

Videx has launched IP intercoms that are ideal for a wide range of installations including office blocks, apartment complexes, hospitals and commercial buildings enabling the door entry system to use existing networks and save both cost and installation time.

The Videx IP system is available as a convenient kit and as an expandable system which can be customised to suit the needs of any building. 12 gauge, 316 grade stainless steel vandal-resistant entrance panels are available along with the popular 4000 Series modular style, all with a wide angle colour camera and with one call button up to a maximum of 42 and an input for an optional second camera.

Neil Thomas, national sales manager at Videx, said: “The beauty of IP systems over conventional systems is that they don’t need dedicated wiring infrastructure and can be used on new or existing networks. These networks can be shared with other technologies such as CCTV, access control, building management and many others.”

The kits includes a wall mount 6200 Series videophone and the entrance panel which is available in standard or vandal-resistant form with surface or flush mounting options. The videophone includes a touch screen 3.5” colour display enabling the end user to customise a range of settings as well as initiate calls to entrance points, neighbours and internally to other extensions with the facility to have up to 16 videophones in each apartment or office.

An event log can also be viewed on the videophone with a video capture feature to see missed callers. The kit includes a 1.25 A 12 V DC power supply which can be used to power the entrance panel, a lock release and the videophone if required. The videophone can also be powered via Power over Ethernet (POE) from a POE switch.

Thomas added: “IP systems are generally very flexible and can allow for connections over an unlimited distance while using existing LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi and 3G/4G infrastructures and the Videx iOS and Android Apps. Installers are now very familiar with IP technologies allowing them to use existing knowledge and experience gained while installing other security systems such as access control and CCTV. IP systems offer greater flexibility to the installer, making it very simple to expand and alter a system as the need arises.”

Bespoke panel sizes are available upon request. Entrance panels and videophones all have two relay outputs, two inputs and RS485 connectivity which can be used for a variety of functions such as door/gate release and the activation of auxiliary functions.

ISM introduces Enterprise version of proven integrated security management system

Intergrated Security Manufacturing (ISM), a leader in the design, development and manufacture of ISMS technology, has just launched an Enterprise version of the company’s proven Genesys integrated security management system (ISMS).

Already deployed within the Critical National Infrastructure sector, the new ISMS offers end users “unparalleled scale, redundancy and ease of use”.

As an enhancement of the existing Genesys2, the Enterprise version has been developed with the largest organisations in mind. Genesys is fully-scalable to manage and control multiple sites from a single Control Room (or even a single workstation) across a country, or even across continents. It features the most advanced levels of encryption to ensure network security, and is accredited to the highest standards of Government national infrastructure security.

Stephen Smith, managing director of ISM, believes that the extension of the Genesys range gives customers greater choice. “There have been a number of articles in the security press talking about PSIM companies starting to develop systems that go beyond the current solutions and moving to a federated architecture. With Genesys, we’re already there. Genesys Enterprise resolves those issues associated with the increasing geographical scope of clients, corporations, Governments and institutions, while also adhering to a multi-tiered hierarchy or ‘federated’ system here total control is centralised, but allows individual sites to maintain local control.”

Smith added: “This new addition is ideally suited to those large organisations with multiple sites across multiple regions who might also want to ‘flex’ to accommodate further sites and geographies as their needs evolve. As this comes from the Genesys stable, existing users only have to upgrade from their existing version to Enterprise without the expense of a complete technology refresh.”

Multiple systems, multiple manufacturers

Crucially, the new development allows the integration of multiple systems from multiple manufacturers – all from one holistic integrated security system. Every electronic security or fire safety device from CCTV and intruder alarms through to electronic locking and Public Address can be monitored and controlled from a single platform, regardless of who made them.

Most importantly, this solution includes the existing Migrating 3+ technology, a patented automatic fail-over technology that adds higher levels of automatic configurable redundancy and power. Control is effectively distributed across multiple workstations.

“We take power to your PC and multiple it by the number of PCs on your network,” added Smith. “What this means is that, if one PC fails, control is migrated to another PC on a seamless basis with no interruption or downtime. Our system isn’t restricted in its performance by the size or capability of a server, and nor does it require the expense of moving to server farms or using clustering software. It means we deliver the most extreme redundancy characteristics for the threats you’ve thought of, not to mention those that you haven’t.”

Continuing this theme, Smith observed: “The Enterprise development within the existing Genesys isn’t a development waiting for a trial site, but rather it has already been installed within a high-security Critical National Infrastructure project. It is tested and proven at the highest level and under the most demanding of conditions and has been very successful.”

‘True’ ISMS

Genesys is a ‘true’ ISMS built around intuitive software that combines a range of industry-leading features and benefits including an enhanced graphical user experience, 3D modelling and a comprehensive event management database. Events and alarms are presented to the operator clearly as and when they happen.

The ISMS software operates as a standalone platform over LAN or WAN networks for remote and local sites with workstations that can be transferred to any operating Security Control Room on the network. This offers the end user flexibility when closing down sites or buildings for off-peak or out of normal working hours or in the unlikely event of any system failures.

CSL unveils RISCO as new DigiAir Connected Partner

Following on from the recent launch of DigiAir Connected with Pyronix, CSL has now announced its latest Connected Partner – RISCO. At present, CSL is working with the industry’s leading security panel manufacturers to bring security solution installers panel-specific signalling that combines the features of the award-winning DigiAir with those of a chosen alarm panel and the added option of an end user App.

Smart alarm systems are growing in popularity as more end users opt for smart phone Apps to control smart devices in their home from their phone. Until now, Apps have only been available with self-monitored systems, but more end users are demanding smart phone Apps plus reliable Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) connectivity. Now they can have both thanks to DigiAir Connected.

RISCO’s variants of DigiAir Connected – GSM and LAN – are available to order from ARCS. Installers can also enable ARC monitoring on existing and new installations where the communication hardware is already built within the panel with the new ARC connection only solution.

All of these variants of DigiAir Connected are available on RISCO’s Agility3, LightSYS2 and ProSYS+ panels.

Urmet provides bespoke access solution at former foreign missionary college in London

Urmet’s IPervoice video entry and access control solution has been installed at St Joseph’s Gate, an apartment complex located at a former foreign missionary college in Mill Hill, London.

The system was chosen for the redevelopment of the Berkeley Group’s site due to its simple installation process and the ability of Urmet products to blend in with the Grade II-listed architecture present at the location.

Residents and visitors benefit from Urmet’s digital video door entry panels which communicate with touchscreen iModo monitors inside the apartments. The Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) external panels are Urmet’s Elekta Glass units, housed in a design that has minimal visual impact on the building.

IPervoice has been installed across the whole location, with its server connected to a dedicated LAN that routes all communication between the external and internal devices supplied by Urmet. This solution has produced cost-savings for the property management client and is also a ‘green’ approach since only one LAN is required for both access control and video entry.

The iModo monitors make no dedicated cable infrastructure demands and are simply integrated with general network cable.

Access control is managed by Urmet’s PC-based concierge switchboard software, with an intuitive wizard simplifying day-to-day operation. Residents at St Joseph’s Gate use proximity key fob tokens with car owners also using RF cards. The site manager operating the switchboard is presented with simple screen menu options to search for, add, delete and suspend tokens, as well as generate reports when required.

Urmet worked closely with the installation company to create bespoke pedestrian and vehicle posts for the entry panels, with the posts finished in a black powder coat to achieve the unobtrusive visual effect desired by the client.

Options for visitors to the site

Residents and visitors enter via a gatehouse, which is staffed by a concierge. An Urmet reader with RF capability allows long-range activation by residents while they are still in their vehicles. Visitors have the choice of making a call directly to an apartment from the post-mounted video entry panels or via the concierge’s switchboard.

Occupants answer calls at the entry panels and communicate with visitors using iModo 7” touchscreen monitors within their apartments. The role of the monitors extends well beyond these functions. Optimising the lifestyle of people living at locations employing Urmet’s access control is one of the company’s core objectives. Residents benefit enormously from an ‘away mode’ that allows them to receive calls made to the monitors on their smart phones and tablets when they are off-site. Families are even able to use this feature on up to four devices.

The iModo can also record a message, which is then played to visitors at the external entry panel when the resident is away or simply doesn’t want to be disturbed.

Being server-based, the IPervoice system conducts live status sampling on the health of network devices. Network alarms are displayed on the concierge switchboard software with diagnostics presented in real-time for local or remote viewing.

Mark Hagger, Urmet’s sales and marketing director, said: “An unusual feature of this project is that all of the entry panels at St Joseph’s Place are post-mounted. The building dates from Victorian times and is in the Jacobean style. This meant that the visual appeal of the exterior could not be compromised. We have successfully delivered numerous projects for the Berkeley Group on previous occasions, although mainly for new-build projects. Consequently, this restoration project was both interesting and challenging. It’s certainly one that we are proud to have been involved in.”

In Greater London alone, Urmet equipment has been specified for residential projects including Chelsea Creek, 375 Kensington High Street, Cobalt Place (Battersea Village), One Tower Bridge, Fulham Reach, Goodman’s Fields and the former Walthamstow Stadium.

Intergrated Security Manufacturing to exhibit Genesys PSIM technology at ISC West

Intergrated Security Manufacturing (ISM) – a leader in the design, development and manufacture of Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) technology – is to show the latest version of its proven Genesys security management system at ISC West 2015 in Las Vegas, which runs from 15-17 April. The company will be present in Booth 31108.

Steve Smith, managing director of ISM, explained that the business continues to invest significantly in technology and R&D and is expanding the use and application of Genesys into new markets.
