WatchGuard and Deutsche Telekom partner to deliver enterprise-grade security solution for SMBs

Watchguard Technologies, the specialist in network security and intelligence, secure Wi-Fi and multi-factor authentication, has launched Business Network Protect Complete, an enterprise-grade security solution for SMBs built in partnership with Deutsche Telekom.

With fast Internet from Deutsche Telekom and security services delivered by WatchGuard, this all-in-one offering is designed to simplify the delivery of critical security for organisations lacking the resources to defend against cyber attacks on their own. The Business Network Protect Complete solution combines a DSL modem and Wi-Fi router with enterprise-level security protections, all within WatchGuard’s own Firebox T35-DW solution.

“There are significant differences between a modern firewall appliance and a commercially available router with NAT functionality. Individual mission-critical network areas such as production systems, management servers, VoIP components and printers must be deliberately divided, individually secured, and automatically monitored,” said Michael Haas, area sales director, Central Europe at WatchGuard. “This can only be done via firewalls such as Business Network Protect Complete with our Firebox T35-DW table-top appliance. The solution’s easy-to-implement segmentation makes it simple to identify potential weak points, initiate countermeasures and prevent attacks from spreading freely across networks.”

BNP Complete offers leading security services such as APT Blocker, Gateway Anti-Virus, Spam Prevention, URL Filtering, Application Control, Intrusion Prevention, SSL Inspection and more. In addition, this all-in-one security solution automatically transmits and processes data from more than 180 Deutsche Telekom honeypot sensors that power its security speedometer to recognise and block malicious IPs.

Gate to digitisation

“With the new offering, we’re able to address the needs of SMBs, including tax consultants, law firms, management consultants, insurance agents and larger medical practices, as well as customers in retail and logistics and other markets,” explained Christian Cronjäger, security product and portfolio manager at Deutsche Telekom. “The gate to digitisation with a fast Internet connection is not only wide open, but the WatchGuard firewall and its numerous security controls serve as a moat to protect sensitive data.”

This solution is suitable for all connections up to 200 Mbps max, while anything up to 20 employees can be covered. The basic protection license includes all hardware components, the EWS from Deutsche Telekom and the ‘Help Desk Service Plus’ managed security services package, which offers guaranteed interference suppression in 24 hours.

The all-in-one protection license also includes the APT Blocker module for protection against highly complex and largely unknown threats. This can be augmented with additional security services depending on customer requirements.

Since 24-7 operation is guaranteed via managed services, customers benefit from secure and reliable connections without having to invest the time and resources into overseeing security themselves. Additionally, Business Network Protect Complete eliminates high up-front costs by offering clients simplified and convenient monthly billing.

NATO selects BlackBerry’s encrypted voice technology for secure calls

The NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency has awarded a contract for BlackBerry’s SecuSUITE for Government to encrypt the conversations of its technology and cyber leaders wherever they communicate – in the workplace, at home or when travelling abroad.

The NCI Agency helps NATO’s 29 Member Nations communicate securely and work together in smarter ways. It acquires, deploys and defends communication systems for NATO’s political decision-makers and Command Centres, working on the front lines against cyber attacks. Due to the classified nature of the information the NCI Agency handles, it’s critical that all communications remain secure, combating any opportunity for a cyber criminal to electronically eavesdrop on conversations.

“As cyber criminals and state-sponsored actors become increasingly more sophisticated, we needed a highly secure way for our cyber leaders to have phone conversations with people inside and outside of our organisation regardless of where they are in the world,” said Kevin Scheid, general manager of the NCI Agency. “BlackBerry’s voice encryption technology helps solve this challenge and strengthens our elite cyber defence strategy.”

Dr Christoph Erdmann, senior vice-president of BlackBerry SecuSMART at BlackBerry, responded: “Eavesdropping on calls is one of the easiest ways to gain access to private information. We’re extremely proud that the NCI Agency, a world leader in the development and use of technology that keeps NATO nations secure, has put its trust in BlackBerry’s software to secure voice communication. No matter the operating system or ‘thing’ used to communicate, BlackBerry’s arsenal of cyber security technology ensures that our customers’ data remains private.”

BlackBerry’s SecuSUITE for Government supports Android and iOS smart phones and tablets, and can be can be installed on-premise, in a Data Centre or in the cloud.

Use cases for the solution include:

*Secure conferencing: Encrypts conversations between a secure conference bridge and a SecuSUITE for Government-enabled devices

*Secure landing: Encrypts mobile devices to a landline within a network

*Break-in: Protects any communication between a mobile or landline on the user’s home network to a SecuSUITE for Government-enabled mobile device

*Break-out: Secures mobile devices to the employee’s home network and from there to external mobile or landlines through PSTN extension

SecuSUITE for Government has been evaluated and certified to be compliant with the Common Criteria protection profile for VoIP applications and SIP servers. It has also earned a NIAP certification and has been placed on the NSA Commercial Solutions for Classified Program component list of products certified for use on classified systems.

Veracity showcasing end-to-end Command and Control solution at IFSEC International 2017

Veracity, a leading provider of solutions that solve real-world challenges in IP video systems, is showcasing a new suite of products at IFSEC International 2017 which neatly brings together the three cornerstones of its business: IP transmission, storage and display.

Following on from its acquisition of security Command and Control software manufacturer icomply, Veracity’s largest-ever IFSEC stand is built around a walk-through Control Room, promoting the company’s integrated security management platform powered by VTAS Pro.

Bringing together new and legacy third party video recording systems, VTAS Pro combines them with other security systems such as access control, LPR, guard tours and building management. This provides a “unified and coherent system” for the management and control of single or multiple sites, allowing system operators to be far more efficient in responding to incidents.

VTAS Pro is fully-integrated with Veracity’s TRINITY direct-to-storage architecture and, fundamental to that, the advanced COLDSTORE surveillance storage system. It also features a full video and media wall display option which can be reconfigured ‘on-the-fly’ and in response to specific incidents or emergency situations.

Live views may be mixed with playback and media streams such as broadcast news, online data streams, maps or other graphical displays.

This end-to-end Command and Control solution is highly scaleable and supports a large number of operator workstations, with shared incident management and alarm receiving co-ordination. It’s capable of handling thousands of remote sites.

The system can provide integration with access control, building management, intruder detection, VoIP intercom systems and video analytics including ANPR and facial recognition. Several native security functions can be added to the system in a modular, customisable way such as guard tour, lone worker monitoring, dispatch, alarm monitoring and key management.

Veracity will also be presenting its new HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 4 Encoder Replacement Kit containing a HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 4 unit, four HIGHWIRE Powerstar Camera units and a 57V DC power supply (region-specific). This product bundle is a simple and cost-effective replacement for legacy analogue video encoders, allowing the end user customer to upgrade to IP cameras by re-using the coax cable and powering the new IP cameras with PoE over coax.

*Veracity will be exhibiting on Stand F1050 at IFSEC International, which runs at London’s ExCeL Exhibition Centre in Docklands from 20-22 June
