Hanwha Techwin “stands out from the crowd” in “competitive surveillance market”

Bob Hwang, managing director of Hanwha Techwin Europe, has provided an indication as to what’s in the company’s 2019 product pipeline. Here, he explains how working ever more closely with distribution partners and leading system integrators, and valuing the feedback they provide in terms of changing market demands, has delivered huge dividends for Hanwha Techwin when it comes to devising a successful product strategy.

We’ve enjoyed significant sales success over the past three years. There’s no doubt that this is largely due to our ability to truly understand how the market is evolving, which we have been able to do with the help of our field-based sales colleagues and our talented teams who have taken on board our customers’ feedback.

In addition to introducing new cameras and recording devices, this has also driven us to work in partnership with third party technology providers to develop solutions which are relevant to today’s market and provide our distribution partners and system integrators alike with a competitive edge.

During 2019, our customers can be assured that we will continue to be a market leader by taking advantage of emerging technologies which will enable them to achieve maximum value from their Wisenet video surveillance solutions.

New products and solutions

Hanwha Techwin will be formally launching new additions to its Wisenet range throughout 2019 and we’ve given a strong indication as to what’s in the product pipeline.

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning – which present exciting new opportunities for a wide range of sophisticated applications – now becoming more accessible to solution developers, we intend to introduce more solutions which support the latest AI technology.

The Wisenet 5 chipset, which is at the heart of the Wisenet X Series of cameras, will be used in other camera lines. There are also plans to introduce an even more advanced Wisenet 7 chipset.

There will be an updated version of the Wisenet WAVE Video Management Software (VMS) offering improved scaleability and interoperability for medium-sized installations, as well as a new version of Smart Security Manager which is designed for entry level, legacy and special projects. We shall continue to cooperate with third party VMS vendors for our high-end customers.

A key attribute of the new products which will be introduced over the coming months is that they’ve all been designed to improve the installers’ experience and reduce operational costs for end users. 

Smart solutions for vertical markets

We intend to sustain our efforts to seek out opportunities for introducing new and innovative solutions to complement existing Wisenet solutions developed jointly with our technology partners for strategic vertical sectors, such as retail and transportation.

Our Korean heritage and core values of ‘Challenge’, ‘Loyalty’ and ‘Integrity’, which are at the heart of ourWe Move With Trust’ central marketing theme, have equipped the business to stand out from the crowd. In order to have a brand name which is trusted, it’s not sufficient just to have products which are better than those of our competitors or for them to be more affordable. We also need to demonstrate a long-term commitment to provide customers with the highest levels of pre- and post-sales support.

Determined not to be complacent, Hanwha Techwin has declared its intention to continually monitor and test cyber security risks using third party security agencies and a dedicated cyber security team. When necessary, we will release in quick time new firmware to counter the latest threats.

This is an exciting time for our security business. The year has already begun well with the recent announcement that our new manufacturing facility in Vietnam is fully operational. This is just one of many reasons why I’m confident we will continue to succeed and be competitive in a market that continues to grow at pace.

Hanwha Techwin Europe unveils pan-European marketing and training alliance with ADI Global Distribution

Hanwha Techwin Europe has teamed up with ADI Global Distribution to create a pan-European marketing campaign designed to raise awareness of – and highlight the advantages that – Wisenet cameras, recording devices and video management software offer to installers and system integrators alike.

The two companies will conduct a wide range of marketing activities including live demonstrations of the comprehensive range of Wisenet video surveillance solutions at roadshows and seminars, while also placing advertisements in leading European electronic security publications and producing bespoke direct mail communications and eNewsletters.

“This is our first pan-European marketing initiative with Hanwha Techwin,” said Simon Middleton, marketing director of ADI’s EMEA businesses. “Our decision to do so reflects the value we place on the relationship formed between our two companies. Scope of the project

The campaign, which is to be implemented across all countries in Europe where ADI Global Distribution is working in partnership with Hanwha Techwin, will primarily be focused on educating the market on the benefits of Wisenet X cameras.

These 2 MP and 5 MP models are ‘supercharged’ by “the most powerful chipset ever incorporated into a full camera range” and equipped with “the world’s best motorised F0.94 varifocal low light lens” and “the world’s best 150 dB Wide Dynamic Range”.

In addition, the marketing campaign is designed to raise awareness of other Wisenet solutions including Wisenet HD+ analogue cameras which capture Full-HD images in 1080p without the need to upgrade cabling infrastructure, Wisenet Q entry level network cameras delivering feature-rich 2 MP or 4 MP images and premium, top of the range Wisenet P cameras delivering “superb quality” 4K (12 MP) images.

In support of the pan-European marketing alliance, Hanwha Techwin Europe has successfully completed the first phase of its certificated Wisenet product and solutions training programme for sales and technical staff across ADI Global Distribution in Northern Europe.

Hanwha Techwin announces 2018 business plan featuring five core values

Hanwha Techwin has welcomed the New Year with a ceremony which took place at the company’s Pangyo R&D Centre. The ceremony offered an opportunity for the surveillance specialist to announce its business plan for 2018. 

At the first New Year meeting since his inauguration last August, Youn Chul Kim (president of Hanwha Techwin’s security business) explained that the company’s five core values (ie business ethics, a good product range, best quality, affordable price and cyber security) must form the basis of its business and operations going forward.

The 2018 business plan entails a greater focus on vertical-specific solutions. Building on the momentum created last year, the company will continue to plan and launch solution-specific products, while also pursuing a deeper understanding of the needs of each vertical sector in order to provide sustainable value for end users.

Storage devices

The second key task for this year involves enhancing the technological competitiveness of the business’ storage solutions. Along with its world class security cameras, Hanwha Techwin plans to boost the competitiveness of its increasingly important back-end products, including storage devices and Video Management Software (VMS).

While emphasising the importance of customer value in the security business, Kim also underlined that the company will continue to fortify its efforts to build greater trust with its valued customers. The video surveillance business is directly relevant to public safety and the security of the individual. Securing customer confidence and trust will therefore fulfil the company’s responsibility as a leading global security company.

Fuel business growth

President Kim also announced the company’s global market strategy to fuel business growth. Noting the great potential of the video surveillance business in the Asian market, Hanwha Techwin opened a new subsidiary office in Dubai last year and plans to start a manufacturing plant in Vietnam during the first quarter of this year.

The company is also planning to strengthen its sales infrastructure through aggressive investment in the Asian and Middle Eastern markets to expand pre-sales and further broaden its market reach through building better relations with partners and clients.

The North American and European markets are expected to see accelerated sales growth through multiple projects involving Hanwha Techwin’s Wisenet X Series of cameras which was launched last year.

“The global market changes so rapidly that it’s difficult to predict the management situation,” stated Kim. “We plan to lead the sector by smartly responding to changes in the environment through strategic scenario management. To secure key competitive advantages, we will make bold investments while strengthening performance management in each phase. We also plan to contribute to the growth of the security industry by collaborating with other companies in the sector.”

Hanwha Techwin earned praise last year for the global launch of its comprehensive Wisenet X Series cameras which feature the Wisenet 5 System on Chip which incorporates the company’s core technologies.

Indeed, Wisenet X was named ‘Best New Product of the Year’ by ADI Global Distribution, Europe’s largest provider of video surveillance solutions. It was also the winner of the video hardware category in the 2017 Benchmark Magazine Innovation Awards.

Wisenet X cameras from Hanwha Techwin awarded carbon footprint certification

Hanwha Techwin has achieved carbon footprint certification for selected models within its Wisenet X camera range. The 2 MP Wisenet XNB-6000 fixed camera, the XNO-6080R bullet model, XND-6080R domes and XNP-6370RH 37x PTZ domes have all been recognised as environmentally-friendly products minimising greenhouse and carbon dioxide emissions.

Carbon footprint certification is issued by the Carbon Trust, a non-profit organisation which was established in 2007 by the UK Government to tackle climate change. The certification measures the carbon emissions from a product’s entire lifecycle, including the production, distribution, use and disposal processes. Emission levels are assessed for their impact on the environment in accordance with PAS 2050 measurement standards to determine eligibility for certification.

Carbon footprint certification has spread across the globe and encompasses Korea, which adopted its own carbon footprint labelling system in 2009. The system involves labelling the product with the carbon emissions from its product lifecycle. It’s supervised by the Ministry of the Environment and certified by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute.

After first acquiring carbon footprint certification for one of its cameras in November 2010, Hanwha Techwin has continued to contribute to the promotion of a low-carbon consumption culture.

“Our efforts to achieve carbon footprint certification for our cameras demonstrates our determination to take meaningful steps towards establishing an environmentally conscious product management system,” said Bob Hwang, managing director of Hanwha Techwin Europe. “From production through to disposal, 90% of carbon emissions from our cameras have, in the past, occurred while they were being used. We’ve been able to reduce greenhouse gas and carbon emissions by minimising the amount of power required by these four Wisenet X cameras, while at the same time making improvements to our packing materials.”

Wisenet X sets the Benchmark with victory in 2017 Innovation Awards

Hanwha Techwin’s Wisenet X cameras have been selected as the winner of the Video Surveillance Hardware category in the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2017.

Designed to recognise and reward innovative thinking and the delivery of benefits through advanced security solutions, the awards scheme is run by Benchmark Magazine, the monthly publication which is widely regarded as the ‘Which?’ magazine for the electronic security industry and is the sister title of Risk UK and Professional Security Installer (PSI) at Pro-Activ Publications.

A Benchmark test team and an independent panel from the security industry judged across nine technology areas, with Wisenet X standing out against stiff competition as the winner of the Video Surveillance Hardware category.

Defining a new standard

“When we launched the Wisenet X camera series earlier this year, we believed we had also delivered on our commitment to set a new standard for IP network video surveillance cameras,” said Bob Hwang, managing director at Hanwha Techwin Europe. “We’re absolutely delighted the innovative technology developed by our highly talented engineers and product management team has led to our Wisenet X cameras receiving this high profile and prestigious award.”

Equipped with 150 dB Wide Dynamic Range (WDR)  technology and a varifocal F0.94 low-light lens, Wisenet X cameras are ‘supercharged’ by the most powerful DSP chipset ever incorporated into a full camera range. Together, these features ensure that “superb quality” colour images are captured, regardless of the environment or the time of day, and without the need for IR LEDs or supplementary lighting.

The advanced 150 dB WDR technology built into many of the Wisenet X cameras and domes ensures clear, sharp images can be captured even when there may be strong contrasting lighting conditions. A standard WDR image is normally captured by composing two frames with different exposures. Wisenet X 150 dB WDR uses four frames to create a more natural image and negates the problem of image blurring which is a weakness of standard WDR.

Faster processing of video

With an all-new architecture, the Wisenet X chipset runs up to three times faster than older generations of chipsets. This delivers much faster processing of video as well as specialist analytics pre-loaded on board the cameras as standard. This includes people counting, which offers the opportunity to measure store efficiency between footfall and actual sales and also identifies the busiest days, times and seasons, as well as queue management to identify peaks and troughs of customer flow at checkouts.

Heat mapping provides accurate, real-time information about customer in-store behaviour. It does so by displaying ‘hotspots’ within a store to indicate customer buying patterns, including dwell times and areas of a store where there might be low activity in order to assist with product placement decisions.

Processing power

The processing power of the Wisenet X chipset also provides an opportunity to run multiple on-board third party analytics applications in the same way that we all use Apps on our smart phones. These include face recognition to assist security personnel to quickly identify known offenders and ANPR to control vehicle access to sensitive areas such as loading bays, as well as to manage car parking areas.

The latter serves to generate event notifications when an authorised vehicle number plate is recognised and can be configured to trigger access control operations such as opening/closing a barrier, as well as sending activity reports and snapshots via e-mail, FTP or SMS.

Hanwha Techwin opens new demonstration showroom

Hanwha Techwin recently held an open day at its new European headquarters in Chertsey to officially mark the opening of its Wisenet showroom.

Distributors, installers and systems integrators from across the UK, many of whom were accompanied by end user clients, accepted an invitation to see Hanwha Techwin’s new demonstration and training facilities. This provided them with the opportunity to be among the first to have a close-up look at the new Wisenet X ‘extreme performance’ camera series, as well as the company’s premium 4K Wisenet P and feature-rich Wisenet Q cameras.

“We have simulated a Control Room environment within our new showroom facilities so that we can demonstrate many of the practical features built into our cameras,” said Chris Parry, country manager for the UK and Ireland at Hanwha Techwin Europe. “With cameras installed throughout our self-contained building and overlooking our car park, we’re able to show in real time the benefits that are achievable from the very latest advances in video surveillance technology.”

Sitting at the ‘Control Room’ consul, Hanwha Techwin guests were able to put a wide range of Wisenet cameras through their paces via spot monitors and a large video wall. This allowed them an opportunity to test the usefulness of analytic solutions like ANPR, people counting and heat mapping as well as privacy masking and advanced Gyro digital image stabilisation.

Commenting on his visit to the new demonstration facility, Paul Miller (director of systems integration specialist RJ Pro-Vue Ltd) said: “I was very impressed and will certainly be taking advantage of the opportunity to bring my existing and potential customers to Chertsey so they can benefit from hands-on demonstrations of the technology built into the Samsung Wisenet cameras and recording devices.”

Nick Kalsi, technology consultant for Edwardian Hotels London, also felt his time was well spent visiting the new showroom. “We are an existing and satisfied user of Wisenet cameras and, together with Mohamed Elsebahy, group CCTV manager for Edwardian Hotels London, I was particularly interested in the detailed demonstration of the new Wisenet X cameras. We will certainly consider deploying these at one of our new hotels.”
