BSIA member companies report on “successful” Intersec 2016

Members of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) have returned from Intersec reporting a successful exhibition for UK companies.

The three-day show – held at the Dubai World Trade Centre between 17 and 19 January – is seen by many as the most important security exhibition in the Middle East region. The event plays a pivotal role in enabling UK companies to meet with potential customers, existing distributors or partners and serves as a platform for launching new products into the Middle East market.

Intersec has been a key fixture for many BSIA members who exhibit year-on-year, and the show continues to attract new exhibitors keen to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the event.

One BSIA member company, RGL Electronics Ltd, has already been active in the Middle East for a number of years and attended Intersec 2016 as an exhibitor for the first time.

Geoff Jones, director of RGL Electronics Ltd, said: “By exhibiting at Intersec this year, we had the opportunity to be in front of the people that really matter, and we were able to build upon what’s already a major marketplace for the RGL brand.”

Jones continued: “We showcased our range of access control products and a disabled toilet alarm, all of which attracted a good response from visitors. Indeed, the quality of the contacts we made on site was very high, and I fully anticipate that some of these contacts will develop into orders over the coming months.”

He concluded: “Something that struck me during the show was how much larger the scale of the projects in the Middle East are compared to those in Europe. The sheer scale of the developments in the Middle East offer promising opportunities for RGL and, indeed, other UK companies.”

BSIAIntersec2016

Excellence in design and innovation

Much of the interest in UK security products in the Middle East comes from the long history of excellence in design and innovation. This was certainly evident at Intersec.

Storm Interface – another BSIA member company – launched its Storm S60 range of mullion format readers at the show and duly received a fantastic response from prospective customers.

Peter Jarvis, senior executive vice-president at Storm Interface, commented: “The response to the Storm S60 was absolutely astonishing. When developing the product, we found that there was a real need for a solution that wouldn’t affect the aesthetics of landmark buildings where, typically, you wouldn’t want to drill into the building materials to affix a traditional reader. The S60 has been designed so that it can fit into a door frame, thus removing the need to attach it to glass, marble or other similar materials.”

Jarvis added: “We’ve found that there’s a real demand in the Middle East for products that meet the design specifications of landmark buildings, and particularly so in Dubai.”

In conclusion, Jarvis told Risk UK: “Our attendance at Intersec has been particularly successful. We’ve been able to talk to all of our target contacts, including existing distributors in the UAE and the regional managers responsible for some of our recently-agreed distribution partnerships.”

Variety of international visitors

A large part of the attraction for UK companies to exhibit at Intersec is the sheer variety of international visitors attending the show, both from the wider Middle East and further afield.

John Davies, managing director of TDSi and chairman of the BSIA’s Export Council, said: “TDSi had a highly successful appearance at Intersec 2016. We gained 30% extra visitors compared to the previous year, some of which came from a wide range of countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey, as well as further afield from Angola, India and Sri Lanka. The overall quality of visitors at the show was excellent. The majority of people we spoke to were working on active projects, so we enjoyed both productive and substantive conversations on all three days.”

Davies continued: “Our integration to wireless access control products from ASSA ABLOY and Simons Voss created a lot of interest on our stand, as did our new Time and Attendance software packages. Visitors were also drawn to our new reader range, both for the aesthetics and the functional multi-technology capability. As always, our strength in terms of being able to offer open platforms for security integration proved very popular with visitors to the stand.”

In conclusion, Davies told Risk UK: “We were delighted to receive confirmation of a project win in Abu Dhabi at Intersec 2016 and expect to close projects in Kuwait, Saudi and Qatar within the next few weeks as a result of conversations at the show.”

Uplift in validated leads

Remsdaq also experienced an uplift in validated leads, estimating that the business recorded approximately 25% more than last year.

Alan Hardy, EMEA sales manager, explained: “It was an extremely satisfying exhibition with unprecedented numbers of good quality contacts visiting our stand. There was an extremely positive reaction from all visitors to our EntroWatch, EntroStar and EntroPad range of access control solutions and considerable interest shown for StarWatch, our enterprise product range, as well as Sabre, our fibre optic perimeter intrusion detection products. We’re confident that our business in the region will increase significantly as a direct result of our participation in the show.”

Texecom also found the show to be a great platform for demonstrating its professional electronic security solutions – including the Premier Elite Series – to the Middle East and beyond.

Clym Brown, the company’s marketing director, explained: “We see themes from Intersec that resonate with global market challenges – the proliferation of advanced wireless security devices, home network and smart phone connectivity for users taking control of their own security and increased connectivity and integrated features for both commercial and security applications. At Texecom, our product range caters for small, low-risk applications right through to high risk, high value and complex installations. At Intersec, we found our breadth of system offerings, using the same architecture and programming structure throughout, was really well received by visitors looking to provide the highest levels of security for a wide range of applications.”

Excellent representation from the UK

73 UK companies took advantage of the many benefits that come with exhibiting as part of the UK Pavilion, which was organised by the BSIA.

Benefits included a prominent stand position in the main section of the show, logistical and on-site support, hassle-free stand design and build and increased exposure to visitors through a strong UK brand presence.

Peter Jarvis commented: “We’ve been really impressed with the level of support that the BSIA has provided, both before and during Intersec. An association with the BSIA is absolutely essential at these types of exhibition. The BSIA’s excellent organisation of the UK Pavilion this year in 2016 has freed us up to come here and do what we need to. In short, meet with target contacts, promote our products and make valuable sales.”

*The BSIA is also organising UK Pavilions at Security Essen and IFSEC South-East Asia, both of which run in September 2016. For more information, or to enquire about exhibiting as part of the UK Pavilion, please contact the BSIA by calling: 0845 389 3889 or send an e-mail to: d.wood@bsia.co.uk

BSIA members to showcase ‘Best of British’ at Intersec Dubai 2016

With the 18th Edition of Intersec Dubai a little over a month away, British Security Industry Association members are gearing up for what promises to be one of the industry’s biggest trade shows to date.

As the Trade Association representing the UK’s private security industry, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) – through its dedicated Export Council – continues to play a pivotal role in forging productive links between UK security companies and overseas buyers (including those in the Middle East).

Intersec is deemed pivotal to this process, with the BSIA – which is attending the show for the 18th year – having a number of members on hand across the three-day event to offer valuable face-to-face advice and guidance on the latest products and services that British security businesses have to offer.

Underlining the importance of the Middle East region to member companies, the BSIA’s Export Council – a dedicated forum for BSIA member companies focused on extending their business to overseas markets – has again conducted its annual State of the Nation survey which considers global export trends.

This year’s survey revealed that there continues to be a high demand for British security products and services, with 60% of respondents citing an increase in overseas business during 2015 and a further 30% stating that the level of business had remained the same.

Further increases in overseas trade are expected for 2016, with a clear focus on the Middle East as an important market for the UK’s security sector. Almost half of all respondents identified the Middle East as the single most important target market. 80% of respondents are looking to increase their level of business in this important region during 2016.

Positive international reputation

Daren Wood, membership and export services manager at the BSIA, commented: “The UK enjoys a positive international reputation when it comes to the provision of security products and services, at least in part due to the innovation which has become synonymous with the UK’s security business sector. Over half of the respondents to this year’s State of the Nation survey attended Intersec Dubai in 2015, which reflects the clear importance that this region has for UK security exporters and the pivotal role that Intersec plays in helping UK businesses to forge productive trade links with buyers in the Middle East.”

The 2016 edition of Intersec – which takes place between 17-19 January – features a number of BSIA member companies who will be highlighting their latest products, duly taking advantage of the show’s international audience which attracted over 27,000 visitors in 2015.

BSIA members exhibiting at Intersec this year include:

Remsdaq: Stand S2-F25 (UK Pavilion)

Remsdaq will be launching the EntroPad reader range, a highly secure read/write smart card reader solution supporting iCLASS, Mifare, NFC and Felica technologies. The EntroPad range includes English and Arabic keypads and hands-free variants.

Also on its stand, Remsdaq will be exhibiting the multi-award winning and cost-effective PoE access control solution EntroStar, which is designed to work with the intuitive license-free EntroWatch software.

Remsdaq will also be exhibiting the enterprise class StarWatch Integrated Security Management System and Sabre, its field-proven range of fibre optic perimeter intrusion products which now includes optional IP and mesh network connectivity.

Alan Hardy, Remsdaq’s security sales manager for the EMEA region, explained: “Intersec is a key event in the Remsdaq calendar. It enables us to showcase the latest additions to our security solutions portfolio and demonstrates an ongoing commitment to our valued customers.”

Hardy continued: “The Middle East remains an integral part of the future growth strategy for our business. Intersec has grown into one of the largest security events in recent years, and we look forward to another great show this year.”

RGL Electronics: Stand S1-G20 (UK Pavilion)

RGL Electronics will be showcasing its new Disabled Toilet Alarm which has been specifically developed for the large projects prevalent in the Middle East region. The company will also be exhibiting some new additions to its access control product solutions.

Geoff Jones, director of RGL Electronics, stated: “RGL has been active in the Middle East for many years. We’ve built on our successes through participation in various large and prestigious projects throughout the region.”

He added: “Intersec has been an extremely important exhibition in promoting the RGL brand and the development of our customer base. By exhibiting at Intersec in January, we hope to meet the people that really matter, such as architects, specifiers and integrators. Intersec will also be an opportunity for us to promote new products and build upon what’s already a major marketplace for the RGL brand.”

GJD Manufacturing: Stand S4-F39 (IMCI Stand)

A regular exhibitor at Intersec, GJD will be demonstrating the DygiZone lighting controller and lighting detectors.

The DygiZone is a four-zone lighting controller available in silver or white housings. The advanced, feature-rich controller provides intelligent security lighting control which enhances security, saves energy and minimises light pollution.

Some of the lighting detectors being demonstrated include the Opal XL, which is an external PIR detector with an adjustable detection range of between 10 and 35 metres. When used with GJD’s lighting controllers, 24-hour indication and movement-activated lighting for a timed period is automatically provided.

The Mini Opal will also be demonstrated. This is an adjustable range PIR detector with front and rear tamper switches, as well as sliding curtains to aid installation and field of view alignment.

The advanced detector only activates security lights when an event has occurred. This ensures lighting is only on when needed, saving both energy and money for users on larger sites.

Ana Maria Sagra-Smith, GJD’s international sales and marketing director, enthused: “The Middle East is a key market for GJD, which is why we regularly exhibit at Intersec. We’re really looking forward to exhibiting again in 2016 and showcasing our cutting-edge security solutions to the Middle East market, as well as meeting with both existing and prospective customers.”

Storm-AXS: Stand S1-H29 (UK Pavilion)

Storm will be revealing important new additions to its range of vandal-resistant, outdoor-rated access control keypads.

The increasing use of glass and hard decorative finishes in both corporate and retail buildings creates a unique challenge when installing access control systems. Keypads and contactless readers must be easily installed within the width of a door frame or mullion. They must also project and confirm an uncompromised commitment to quality and style.

To meet this emerging demand for innovative technology and contemporary design, Storm has created an integrated keypad and contactless reader, uniquely exploiting the use of light and form.

When installed, the new S60 keypad/reader projects an atmospheric halo of light onto surrounding surfaces, producing an exciting signature effect for landmark buildings. Intersec represents the first public showing of the new Storm-AXS S60 keypad.

Peter Jarvis, senior executive vice-president of the business, said: “Dubai is a location that features many of the world’s contemporary landmark buildings. Intersec 2016 provides a unique opportunity to establish and develop relationships with architects and building management companies. For a small British company promoting innovation in technology and quality by design, the UAE represents a market sector that values and demands premium quality solutions.”

www.storm-interface.com

Texecom Ltd: Stand S1-G34 (UK Pavilion)

Also exhibiting at Intersec is Texecom, one of Europe’s largest independent security alarm specialists.

Texecom will be showcasing its Premier Elite Series which provides a single, comprehensive system architecture and peripheral range that scales from the simplest and smallest of security applications through to the largest and most complex.

Featuring a common programming platform, interoperable wired and wireless peripheral devices, design flexibility and integration capabilities, the Premier Elite Series provides a high performance security solution for applications around the world.

Premier Elite wireless systems also contain Ricochet mesh technology, a revolutionary wireless system that automatically adapts to any environment. Ricochet mesh technology brings commercial grade wireless security to residential applications and, when combined with Texecom’s latest offerings, delivers a comprehensive suite of security solutions for connected homes.

Clym Brown, marketing director at Texecom, outlined: “Texecom is obsessive about providing world-class protection for people and property everywhere. Exhibiting at Intersec showcases our solutions to the Middle East market and beyond.”

As a UKTI Approved Trade Organisation (ATO), the BSIA is responsible for facilitating the UK Pavilion at Intersec 2016 which brings together a number of UK companies to promote the ‘Great Britain’ brand. The UK Pavilion will form a focal point for overseas buyers who want to buy the quality, innovative security products for which the UK is renowned.

TDSi reports 25% increase in export market visitors to its stand at IFSEC International 2015

Reporting a 25% increase in export market visitors to its stand at IFSEC International 2015, integrated security solutions developer TDSi believes this reflects the continued and rapid expansion of the global security market. Interest at the show also indicated a continued customer demand for fully-integrated solutions rather than just security components.

Post-event, TDSi’s managing director John Davies told Risk: “IFSEC International is a great barometer of the state of the security sector. It was obvious from this year’s event that the market has become truly globalised, with a sizeable increase in visitors travelling from other regions to see the latest and best solutions that the security sector has to offer.”

Davies continued: “I’m also pleased to say that the feedback we had from visitors is that our own approach to fully-integrated security systems is essential in the post-recession market. Rather than just purchasing security products, the evolving security consumer wants intelligent, flexible and comprehensively integrated systems. These are exactly what TDSi offers and continues to research and develop.”

The international nature of the event also confirmed assumptions on the geographical markets’ strengths and weaknesses. “In comparison to China, South East Asia and the Middle East,” urged Davies, “the European market has somewhat plateaued, partially due to a degree of uncertainty still looming over the Euro Zone. In the UK, TDSi is benefiting from a healthy upturn in the market and we anticipate a very healthy growth figure of 10+% this year. This may be partially due to having a new majority UK Government and thus a stable business environment for the next five years, in contrast to the situation that’s pertaining in Europe.”

Security, IT and building control systems

Davies also explained to Risk UK that the demand for security systems designed to work with IT and buildings control systems is rapidly becoming truly global in nature.

“Security operators and consumers have become very well versed in what’s possible,” he said, “largely because of the rise in trends such as the Internet of Things. They now demand this flexibility from all of their technology purchases. These are exciting times with real optimism and increased funding. For their part, providers need to stay on top of demand and offer the very best solutions in what continues to be a highly competitive and ‘savvy’ buyers market.”

There was also a noticeable increase in the volume of new visitors at IFSEC International, as TDSi’s product and marketing manager Sarah Phillips observed during the show (which ran from 16-18 June at London’s ExCeL).

“IFSEC International has always been an excellent opportunity for security solutions providers, installers, integrators, consultants and end users to make contact,” stated Phillips. “That was very apparent this year. IFSEC remains an ideal platform to reacquaint with both existing partners and customers.”

Phillips added: “Many end users approached our team for advice. Naturally, we’re very keen to preserve the channel structure of our business so we do actively refer customers to our partners, but equally this gives us a greater insight into the needs of security operators. This kind of detail is invaluable for our business and product development streams.”

One of the main themes on TDSi’s stand at IFSEC International 2015 was a demonstration of the considerable benefits of using the company’s solutions in conjunction with those produced by other specialist manufacturers, among them Texecom, Milestone Systems, ASSA Abloy and SimonsVoss.

This year, visitors took particular interest in TDSi’s new range of readers (including MIFARE Plus, DESFire and NFC technologies for added security and flexibility) as well as the enhanced web access portal for EXgarde.

In conclusion, Phillips explained: “Visitors are always excited to see brand new products and the readers are one of the staple lines in our product portfolio. IFSEC International is one of the highlights of our year and, with our continued success at the show, that situation will remain so for many years to come.”
