“TDSi is committed to educating the security market,” urged Davies, “so it makes perfect sense that we’re partnering with our good friends at Tavcom and sponsoring the Tavcom Theatre [Stand B1250] this year. We’re also looking forward to engaging with an audience of security professionals and consumers to discuss key trends and look at some of the exciting developments in the security sphere which are shaping its future and, indeed, already having a profound effect.”

Synopses of the presentations

‘Enhancing Security and Reducing Installation Time and Hassle with Wireless Locking’

Wireless solutions are revolutionising the installation, administration and operation of physical security and access control systems. In this seminar, TDSi and Darren Gill from ASSA Abloy will demonstrate the considerable benefits of using wireless locking systems to effectively enhance any integrated security system.

‘The Future of Open Platforms’

TDSi along with Jarod Booth (regional security manager at Anixter) will discuss the impact of open platform systems and the benefits of ONVIF compliance, as well as answering questions from the floor, in turn addressing queries and concerns from the wider security industry.

‘The Benefits of Combining Physical and Cyber Security in the Cloud’

Cloud-hosted security systems offer greater flexibility, convenience and control while at the same time maintaining the highest levels of protection. TDSi will showcase how Cloud hosting of systems benefits security operators and installers by offering the ideal solution at the right cost.

Alongside the programme of seminars and panel debates, TDSi will be running its own Technology Showcase. This will include live demonstrations for the company’s customers and partners. Additionally, TDSi’s systems will be on display on its distribution partner Anixter’s Stand (D1050), while TDSi’s EXgarde security software and controllers will be part of the display on the Suprema Stand (D1400), both of which are in the main hall at London’s ExCeL.

It’s designed to encourage installers, systems integrators, Control Room operators and organisations who are NSI approved to take the opportunity to improve their skill sets and, in the process, acquire career-enhancing accredited qualifications.”

Skills and knowledge enhancement

Commenting on the partnership, Richard Jenkins (CEO of the NSI) said: “Every year, our national team of auditors completes in the region of 4,000 regular and robust audits of NSI approved companies to verify their continual compliance with industry standards. WebWayOne alarm handling solutions installed at Tavcom’s Training Centre

Students participating in one of Tavcom Training’s Alarm Systems courses will be able to gain practical hands-on experience of alarm handling within a Control Room environment thanks to equipment donated by WebWayOne.

The equipment installed in the Control Room operators’ testing area at Tavcom’s Training Centre in Bishops Waltham includes Communicator Pro and Mini devices, as well as WebWayWorld web access in order for students to familiarise themselves with the commissioning and support of IP and 2G/3G communication.

Six WebWay communicators are fully operational and signalling to test accounts at Southern Monitoring’s Alarm Receiving Centre in Waterlooville, with remote access via MASWeb to view alarm delivery in real time.

The communicators are serially connected to Honeywell Galaxy and Texecom Intruder panels and can take advantage of SIA3 signalling which includes the support of remote servicing and diagnostics.

Tavcom’s Education Information Day proves popular with security professionals

Leading security professionals recently attended an Education Information Day held at Tavcom’s dedicated Training Centre in Bishops Waltham. The 50-plus delegates representing industry associations, institutions, local authorities, the police service and principle industry employers were treated to a series of presentations on a diverse range of subjects, among them analytics, forensics, cyber security and the importance of new international standards.

“Our Education Information Day has become an annual event, and we know from the feedback provided by delegates that they highly value the overview provided by our expert speakers on how to best capitalise on the latest generation of electronic security solutions, as well as the insight provided on future trends,” explained Paul Tennent, managing director at Tavcom.

Among the speakers was Jon Laws. With the market for IP network-based video surveillance systems growing almost exponentially, Laws shared his knowledge on how to extend the life of an existing analogue system by introducing hybrid solutions while starting on the process of migrating to an IP network-based solution.

Laws also provided a forward-looking and realistic view of the technologies which are likely to be integrated into tomorrow’s security systems.

For his part, Paul Fletcher offered an Alarm Receiving Centre ‘insider’s’ picture of the most effective way of providing a technical ‘fit for purpose’ solution.

Update on the latest CCTV standards

It’s now two decades since Mike Tennent founded Tavcom. During that time he has not only built up the reputation of Tavcom to be the leading supplier of security systems training but, through wide and extensive experience, he has also earned a more than justifiable reputation as a leading expert across the spectrum that is CCTV.

Having witnessed and kept pace with the many industry changes over the years, Tennent provided an update on the latest CCTV/VSS standards. In the process, he addressed some key questions including why the ‘face’ of CCTV is changing, why the new international standards are so important and who needs to know about them.

Eneo sponsored this year’s Education Information Day. As part of the event, delegates had the opportunity to take a tour of the Tavcom CCTV Control Room operators’ testing area and state-of-the-art workshop facilities, as well as witness practical demonstrations of the latest CCTV, intruder alarm, access control and IP technologies.

BSIA members to showcase latest innovations at IFSEC International 2014

Members of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) are looking forward to showcasing the very latest in innovative security technology before an impressive audience of international buyers and specifiers as IFSEC International makes its return to London next week (17-19 June).

The show’s relocation to London’s ExCeL has enabled exhibition organiser UBM Live to rejuvenate the show’s format, with the introduction of new features and opportunities for networking both during the show and after hours.

Learning, education and training still form a key element of the event’s format, with many BSIA spokespeople scheduled to take part in keynote sessions as part of the IFSEC Academy Conference Programme.

Meanwhile, several members of the BSIA’s Lone Worker Section will be showcasing the latest safety devices and smart phone apps at Safety and Health Expo, which runs alongside IFSEC International as part of UBM’s wider Protection and Management Series. There’s free entry to all IFSEC ticket-holders.

“There’s certainly a buzz of excitement in the air as we count down to IFSEC International’s return to London,” commented James Kelly, CEO of the BSIA (the trade body representing the UK’s private security industry). “With an impressive number of delegates from across the security buying chain already pre-registered to attend, the BSIA and its members are looking forward to a busy few days.”

UBM Live’s group marketing manager Ruth Galpine has confirmed the positive outlook for 2014’s event. “Pre-registration for IFSEC International is looking incredibly healthy,” said Galpine, “with current figures tracking at 45% up year-on-year. This is due to the re-location to London, opening the event up to end users and international visitors, both of which we’ve seen a huge increase in, plus all of the new visitor features, education and customer experience initiatives that UBM has put in place for this year.”

BSIA members’ activity at IFSEC International 2014
