IDIS Global Partners Summit highlights developments in analytics and end-to-end solutions for strategic markets

The latest advances in video analytics – including improved classification, accuracy and speed – were unveiled at a Global Partners Summit of international security and video surveillance professionals hosted by IDIS in Seoul, South Korea.

The three-day event, attended by senior executives from leading security distributors from 23 countries, focused on how IDIS is responding to market trends and needs, developing end-to-end solutions (including specialist technologies for a range of vertical markets) and pushing forward with improvements to the IDIS Deep Learning Engine, the technology which powers the company’s ‘AI in the Box’ and IDIS Deep Learning Analytics solutions for end users.

Earlier this year, IDLA Version 3.0 was introduced as a service module for up to 80 channels within the IDIS Solution Suite VMS and it set new performance benchmarks by achieving an accuracy of 97%-98% while dramatically reducing false alarms. Responding to customer demand for easier, more affordable analytics for smaller applications, IDIS also launched its aforementioned DV-2116 ‘AI in the Box’ solution.

Delegates learned of future enhancements in meta-data searching by class, colour and number, plus the ability to search a specific area of interest. People counting, fall detection and the ability to search by the direction of an object’s movement were also previewed and delegates received advanced notice of a new range of AI-ready 5 MP cameras, featuring deep learning on-the-edge analytics, due for release next year.

Technology roadmap for 2020

The Global Partners Summit also previewed IDIS’ ambitious video product and technology roadmap for 2020, further building out the company’s end-to-end solutions for core vertical market sectors.

Innovations in recording and camera technology, and the growing importance of cyber security, extended warranties and the advantages of delivering lower total cost of ownership and lower total cost to serve for systems integrators and installers were among key topics discussed at the event.

IDIS works closely with its partners and hosts the annual Global Partners Summit as an opportunity to exchange market insights and steer its strategies for product development, technical support and marketing.

Partners shared Best Practice implementations and related Case Studies in core vertical markets including retail, education, logistics and distribution and hotels.

Awards for Best Practice

Joon Jun, president of the IDIS Global Business Division, recognised outstanding project implementations and presented special awards for Best Practice to Alarm Automatika from Croatia and BTCO of Chile.

This collaborative approach, focusing on long-term partnerships, is a key element in the company’s success. It’s a customer-focused model that has seen IDIS grow continuously since 1997 to become Korea’s largest in-country video surveillance manufacturer, with regional operations now expanding across 50-plus countries.

Concluding the Global Partners Summit, special partner awards were presented by YD Kim, CEO of IDIS, recognising outstanding collaboration and sales growth over the last year. These were given to Alarm Automatica of Croatia, CCTV Center from Spain, EPCOM of Mexico, JES CQTEC of Thailand and Japan’s Secure Inc.

With the cost of hardwired access control installation increasing, in the main due to infrastructure complexity and compliance requirements, the ease and speed of installation of a wireless access control solution saves customers money. It also greatly enhances an organisation’s security for staff, visitors and property (both physical and intellectual).

For systems integrators, this integration will offer a greater choice of industry-standard wireless electronic locks. Overall system design and deployment will be greatly simplified, allowing Genetec-certified channel partners to leverage wireless locks and significantly reduce the installation time and labour costs typically associated with hardwired solutions.

“We’re thrilled to add the SimonsVoss brand to our expanding portfolio of supported locks,” said Derek Arcuri, product marketing manager at Genetec. “Both companies will now be able to offer end users and systems integrators alike a greater choice in access control hardware, whether for designing a new physical security system or updating an existing one.”

Bernhard Sommer, managing director at SimonsVoss, added: “The integration of our SmartIntego locks with the enterprise-class Synergis access control software from Genetec will enable a scaleable access control solution that meets today’s needs while providing an easy pathway to future upgrades.”

Wavestore ensures smooth VMS-based security solution for Harley-Davidson dealerships

Wavestore’s Video Management Software (VMS) is helping to maintain a high level of security at two Harley-Davidson dealerships on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States of America.

Harley-Davidson of NYC Tribeca is a unique two-level space in the heart of New York City which has become a recent welcome addition for bike enthusiasts from the area and for visitors from around the world.

The Manhattan-located dealership is run by Asaf Jacobi, president of Harley-Davidson NYC, who also has responsibility for the Harley-Davidson of NYC’s main dealership in Queens.

With a requirement to deter would-be thieves, as well as create a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors at both dealerships, Jacobi turned to New York-based systems integrator AISG to solve the security needs.

Jacobi wanted a full turnkey solution which would not only cover security requirements in terms of alarm and video systems, but also provide the media needs of the stores by way of a state-of-the-art monitor wall and sound system.

Wavestore was selected for the video surveillance part of the project. An old analogue video surveillance system in the Queens outlet was upgraded to a hybrid system while the Manhattan dealership was equipped with a total IP network solution.

AISG worked closely with the Harley-Davidson NYC IT Department to set up remote alarm and video monitoring, as well as local networks, while a Wavestore management and storage server was set up to support domes and 360 degree cameras manufactured by Vivotek. Configuring the cameras was “seamless” thanks to Wavestore’s open platform technology.

Full service destination

Located in Long Island City for over 25 years, the main Queens store is a full service destination. While both locations offer the authentic Harley-Davidson experience, when designing the Manhattan store, Jacobi took into account why customers flock to the Queens location and turned it up a notch.

What visitors see is the world’s first and only Harley-Davidson Powerwall, with two multi-touch kiosks that let them design, instantly view and save their custom bikes on a movie screen-sized display.

There’s also a Leather Lounge Café and coffee bar, a Glass Bike Lift suspended from the ceiling and a premium selection of accessories and apparel.

“With a lot going on at both locations, the ability to view the stores remotely gives me mobility and more freedom to move around,” explained Jacobi. “The system is reliable and offers flexibility. Plus it’s easy to use and, as I learn more, the product becomes consistently better over time. You can really tell the difference. The new system is more effective. I’m able to zoom in and focus on one area and realise a really clear image.”

The Wavestore solution deployed at the two dealerships is scalable and provides a platform that makes integration between disparate technologies simple. Jacobi will be able to deploy additional cameras if and when required and, with Wavestore’s ability to support third party technologies such as video analytics, there are plans afoot to take full advantage of the open platform VMS to capture valuable business intelligence and operational data with a view to maximising customer satisfaction.

Jacobi is also considering integrating the stores’ access control systems in order to obtain visual verification of who has entered restricted areas like staff and stock rooms.

Samsung Techwin launches WiseNet Lite security camera series for end users

In a crowded professional security camera marketplace where there’s no shortage of manufacturers competing for the attention of end users and installers, Samsung Techwin has demonstrated its determination to retain its market leading position with the launch of the High Definition (HD) WiseNet Lite series of cameras.

The three bullet cameras and seven domes in the new WiseNet Lite series have been introduced to provide Samsung Techwin’s customers with keenly priced alternatives to the highly acclaimed, feature rich, Open Platform WiseNetIII models.

“We fully understand that in a competitive world, the best way we can continue to support installers, systems integrators, end users and our business partners throughout Europe is to provide a wide range of options which can collectively meet the budget limitations and functionality requirements for any video surveillance project,” said Tim Biddulph, product manager for Samsung Techwin Europe.

“WiseNet Lite allows us to offer a high performance video surveillance solution for shops and offices which just require HD cameras to capture evidence grade images, while it also provides an affordable solution for much larger projects where hundreds of cameras may be required.”

The 1.3 Megapixel and 2 Megapixel Full-HD WiseNet Lite models share many of the features built into the WiseNetIII range, including Intelligent Video Analytics, motion detection, privacy masking zones, audio support, PoE and a SD/SDHC memory slot.

They also feature LDC (Lens Distortion Correction) which compensates for the image distortion that can occur with wide angle lenses.

Samsung Techwin has equipped the WiseNet Lite cameras and domes with a Hallway view function for the monitoring of narrow vertical areas such as corridors, tunnels and aisles. It enables the camera to capture images with a 9:16 x 3:4 aspect ratio that works effectively in tall and narrow spaces with the added bonus of minimising bandwidth and video storage requirements.
