Over the years, WAGNER’s innovations have given the market significant impetus. As a logical consequence, the German-based company also brings its expertise and knowhow into important standards committees including DIN, CEN and ISO.

WAGNER is also actively involved in drafting national and international guidelines with, for example, VdS and the BSI.

Headquartered in Langenhagen near Hannover in Germany, WAGNER’s worldwide presence extends beyond Europe to China, Dubai, Singapore and the United States.

Enhanced competitiveness and harmonisation

WAGNER will be represented in the Euralarm Fire Section by Dr Ing Oliver Linden, the company’s product manager. Following the completion of a doctorate in safety engineering and fire and explosion protection, Dr Ing Linden spent several years working as a researcher, with a special focus on the development and testing of multi-criteria fire detectors before moving into product management.

His responsibilities in terms of the company’s product portfolio and special tasks have increased steadily across a 12-year career with the business.

“WAGNER acknowledges Euralarm’s important role as the European fire and security industry’s representative and balancing partner to standardisation and testing bodies,” said Dr Ing Linden. “Having participated in its work for many years, WAGNER decided to permanently engage with Euralarm’s activities specifically in relation to matters of fire safety, contributing towards reduced trade barriers as well as enhanced competitiveness and harmonisation of the European market. As WAGNER’s representative, I would like to thank Euralarm very much for the warm welcome.”

Euralarm president Enzo Peduzzi commented: “We’re happy to now count WAGNER among our members. Euralarm is now even more representative of the electronic fire safety and security sector.”

Its members make society safer and more secure through systems and services for fire detection, intrusion detection, access control, video monitoring, alarm transmission and Alarm Receiving Centres.

Founded in 1970, Euralarm represents over 5,000 companies within the fire safety and security industry. Euralarm members are national associations and individual companies from across Europe.

Perimeter security solutions specialist Zaun opens gates for Thames Water

Perimeter fencing specialist Zaun has installed trackless bi-folding automatic speed gates at a Thames Water administration building.

The vehicle gates – which incorporate live-monitored safety edges, dual-height safety photocells and manual-disengaging vertical infill bars – have replaced old rising arm barriers at Kemble Court, Thames Water’s Operations Management Centre in Reading.

Zaun also installed an adjacent pedestrian turnstile with a passage for bicycles and integrated the installation into existing fencing with 1.8 metre-high HiSec fencing.

So pleased are Thames Water with the vehicle gate solution that the business has specified it for one of its many sewage treatment plants – at East Hyde in Luton – that operates a combined heat and power (CHP) unit to generate the electricity the plant needs.

The CHP process ‘brews and chews’ sewage sludge to break down biodegradable material creating biomethane, or biogas, while methane from the sludge is burned to create heat, which in turn generates renewable electricity using a pre-treatment process called thermal hydrolysis.

IT and security experts join forces to offer wireless access control solutions for end users

The Intelligent Technology Division of NBM Distribution – namely iTECH – is now distributing Netgenium’s IP access control solution that’s integrated with ASSA Abloy Access Control’s Aperio technology.

ASSA Abloy Access Control is a UK division of ASSA Abloy, the global specialist in door opening solutions that has worked with Netgenium to offer wireless access control as an additional option to the PolicyServer system for over two years now.

The latest Aperio wireless cylinders, PINpad escutcheon and L100 as well as KS100 have all been integrated into the IP access control solution.

Aperio is designed to upgrade mechanically-locked doors and wirelessly connect them online to new or existing access control systems. With minimal modification required for doors and premises alike, Aperio offers a cost-effective and simple security upgrade for end users.

Paul Anderson, managing director at Netgenium, said: “The alliance between our three companies is perfect. NBM Distribution and its iTECH Division understands data networking and IP technologies. It’s able to support its resellers throughout the UK who understand the physical layer from a network infrastructure perspective. For their part, ASSA Abloy Access Control’s Aperio solutions add flexibility to the PolicyServer system, providing a highly cost-effective alternative to our high-end wired solution. The Aperio solution also integrates with all other aspects of the intelligent building via PolicyServer. These include PoE audio, CCTV integration, PoE LED lighting and IP-based lighting control.”

Danny Kindell, managing director at NBM and technical lead of the iTECH Division, added: “We’ve recently expanded an innovative IP technology product range to complement our existing core capabilities of supplying data cabling solutions. Partnering with Netgenium and ASSA Abloy Access Control increases the quality of our offer by dint of providing flexible IP products that realise intelligent building management and unified communications.”

Damian Marsh, managing director at ASSA Abloy Access Control, stated: “Aperio IP wireless hubs register and authenticate with PolicyServer over the IP network, ensuring that none of the benefits of intelligent building integration are lost. Each wireless hub can support up to eight locksets via a wireless connection. PolicyServer can support multiple wireless hubs.”

Bosch Security Systems’ Access Control integration with Milestone Systems XProtect VMS now certified

Milestone Systems’ open platform IP video management software (VMS) is integrated with Bosch Access Control and has been certified with full documentation of testing results and Best Practice for optimal configurations. This means that Bosch and Milestone customers can count on a “reliable, interoperable solution” while installing partners may take advantage of the practical information in the certification documents for “better implementations”.

The integration between the Bosch Access Control system and the Milestone XProtect VMS was achieved earlier with the user interface via the Bosch system, and subsequently upgraded with the XProtect Access Control Module in 2014. The certification process was completed by the end of the year.

The combined solution now displays real-time access control events and alarms in the Milestone XProtect Smart Client, also providing control of doors, gates and barriers from within the video interface.

Live video and views of recordings are synchronised with all the access control events.

Milestone's XProtect Smart Client

Milestone’s XProtect Smart Client

The XProtect Access Control Module is part of the Milestone Integration Platform Software Development Kit. The XProtect Smart Client provides a unified interface to the Bosch Access Control system with such dedicated functions as monitoring access events with video verification, manually assisting passage (controlling doors and gates, etc), conducting investigations of specific access points or cardholders, easily exporting video evidence and generating reports.

Video of the Bosch access incidents visually confirms and informs on situations as they happen for verified decision-making and efficient response. The video also provides evidential documentation that may be easily shared for analysis, rectification or prosecution.

The seamless integration of Bosch Access Control with the XProtect Smart Client means that Milestone customers can keep their easy-to-use video interface while adding access control but without having to re-train. The integration delivers real-time monitoring with video verification for fast response to incidents, including locking, unlocking or triggering a system lockdown. End users may also choose to work with the Bosch interface. The access control main system administration remains within the Bosch system.

“Bosch is one of the first Milestone Solution Partners to integrate via the XProtect Access Control Module, which shows a strong commitment to our open platform,” explained Trine Voss, head of the Solution Partner Program at Milestone Systems. “Flexibility and reliability are two of Milestone’s core business values. These are both demonstrated in the certification of the Bosch Access Control system with our XProtect Smart Client interface. The freedom of choice lets operators use the features that are most efficient for their security needs.”

Certification of the Bosch Access Control integration via the XProtect Access Control Module is another stamp of the strong partnership in the long-standing relationship between these two companies. Milestone Systems already supports the full line of Bosch IP video network cameras, including the comprehensive Bosch analytics offerings.

“Bosch’s Access Control Professional Edition is a powerful and scalable access control application that’s a perfect contributor to the Milestone Solution Partner ecosystem,” stated Rudolf Spielberger, head of the Integration Partner Program at Bosch.

“With the fulfilled integration via Milestone’s XProtect Access Control Module, we validate Bosch’s openness strategy by providing common open platform solutions for our end user customers.”

The Bosch-Milestone integrations will be on display at IFSEC from 16-18 June.

The certification documentation is available at: http://www.milestonesys.com/solution-finder/bosch/bosch-access-professional-edition-xprotect-access-control-module-plug-in/

The Bosch Security Systems division is a leading global supplier of security, safety and communications products, solutions and services. The company’s product portfolio includes video surveillance, intrusion detection, fire detection and voice evacuation systems as well as access control and management systems.
