Johnson Controls opens interactive showroom and training facility in Ireland

Tyco, the security products division of Johnson Controls, has announced the opening of its new state-of-the-art interactive showroom and training facility in Ireland.

Located in the Ballymount area of Dublin, the new showroom facility provides the opportunity for system integrators and their end user clients to witness live demonstrations of the features and technology built into the latest generation of access control and video surveillance solutions supplied under the Tyco umbrella.

“In addition to in-depth demonstrations of specific products or software, we’re now also able to show how easy it is for end users to benefit from a totally integrated security solution via an interactive operational system,” said Colm O’Brien, Tyco’s access control and video surveillance business manager in Ireland.

“By way of an example, we’re able to demonstrate the full capabilities of Victor, our unified video management application, which synchronises video surveillance with access control, fire protection, BMS, drone detection and mitigation, radar, gate automation, intrusion and other systems into one powerful and intuitive interface.”

The new facility also has a fully-equipped training room with hands-on workstations to enable system integrators to learn how to offer their end user clients maximum value from a wide range of solutions, including American Dynamics’ Victor and VideoEdge video platforms, Exacq’s video management software, Illustra cameras, Software House’s CCure access control solution, CEM’s access control systems and, of course, Kantech’s access control platforms.

Johnson Controls introduces C•CURE Go Install App from Software House

Johnson Controls has announced the introduction of the C•CURE Go Install App for use with the Software House iSTAR Ultra LT. The new App provides a more efficient and convenient means of configuring or updating information on the iSTAR Ultra LT controller without having to physically access the unit.

Working with an embedded Bluetooth antenna that can be turned on and off remotely to ensure network security, end users simply log into the C•CURE Go Install App to perform a host of tasks, including configuring the network settings on the controller, rebooting the device and checking its status.

The App is ideal for use with iSTAR Ultra LT controllers that are difficult to access for manual configuration, such as those units located high above doorways or perhaps behind ceiling tiles.

The password-protected App works for end users within range of the controller, including in-house security staff, integrators or system installers. Using the App replaces having to make changes on or check status directly from the controller.

“Using the C•CURE Go Install App with the iSTAR Ultra LT minimises the disruption that can be caused by having to access the controller itself,” said Rafael Schrijvers, access control product marketing manager (EMEA) within the Building Technologies & Solutions business at Johnson Controls.

“Increasingly, there are applications, such as hospitals with sealed ceilings, where physical access to the controller just isn’t feasible. Using the intuitive App to perform myriad tasks provides a more efficient option.”

Tyco Security Products unveils all-new Cyber Protection Programme

Tyco Security Products is introducing its Cyber Protection Programme, a multifaceted initiative designed to provide an holistic approach towards cyber security protection for physical security through each phase of the product development lifecycle.

The company has developed its cyber security expertise after many years of providing critical solutions for the US Government and other large multinational customers, and holds several industry-firsts, including FISMA-ready access control and video solutions.

“Our Cyber Protection Programme was born from our unique and broad experience in complying with Government regulatory standards and meeting the highly complex needs of multinational deployments,” said Steve Carney, senior director for integration platforms at Tyco Security Products.

“Our deep understanding of these regulatory issues helps us to better partner with our customers to more effectively mitigate risks from hackers, activists or other malicious threats when it comes to their physical security systems.”

The Cyber Protection Programme is led by a team responsible for monitoring the product development process and authorising final product release to ensure compliance with secure development Best Practice. Some of these Best Practices include:

*Developing and maintaining the company’s security standards for product development

*Performing security evaluations and testing on devices, applications and systems

*Providing guidance to help end users configure systems to comply with standards

*Performing in-house and independent third party security testing of Tyco Security Products solutions

*Evaluating and developing responses to possible vulnerabilities potentially affecting Tyco Security Products’ solutions as they’re discovered

The Cyber Protection Programme has already been implemented across several product lines, including Software House, American Dynamics and Illustra, while the Cyber Protection team is managing the long-term strategy for embedding the same cyber safety mindset across other product lines within the Tyco Security Products portfolio.

Software House enhances C•CURE fault tolerance for business continuity solutions

Software House (part of the Security Products business unit of Tyco, the world’s largest pure-play fire protection and security company) is now offering an even higher level of 24/7 protection with the transition to Stratus Technologies’ everRun Enterprise and Express V7.2 fault tolerant business continuity solutions for its C•CURE 9000 and C•CURE 800/8000 access control platforms.

“Maintaining system uptime during power or connectivity disruption is one of the most critical aspects of security monitoring,” said Raf Schrijvers, product marketing manager for access control solutions in the EMEA region at Tyco Security Products.

“The marriage of Stratus Technologies’ redundancy product with C•CURE platforms makes already highly reliable access control systems even more robust and fault tolerant.”

Memory and cached data preserved

Through its partnership with Stratus, C•CURE has strengthened its fault tolerant capabilities by deploying everRun Enterprise and Express. By operating on two machines, C•CURE continues to run even if one machine fails. If a component fails, it’s simply replaced with a healthy component from the second system.

Additionally, memory checking ensures that all current transactions as well as memory and cached data are preserved.

Tyco Security Products has announced a new integration with Stratus Technologies and its portfolio of business continuity solutions to further strengthen the fault tolerant capabilities of its C•CURE 9000 and C•CURE 800/8000 access control platforms

Tyco Security Products has announced a new integration with Stratus Technologies and its portfolio of business continuity solutions to further strengthen the fault tolerant capabilities of its C•CURE 9000 and C•CURE 800/8000 access control platforms

everRun is available in Enterprise and Express versions, giving end customers the flexibility to choose their level of protection. The everRun preventative-based model is focused on helping organisations continue to operate and compute even during failures. In the event of an incident, the software issues e-mail alerts to authorised personnel.

Users can choose from a variety of automatic failover and recovery options based on availability needs rather than the size of their C•CURE system. The scalable system, which requires minimal IT staff input for operation, is able to grow with each customer’s changing business needs.

“It’s important for our customers to have hands on access to integrated systems so they can conveniently evaluate the most appropriate solution for their application,” explained Phil Dashey, vice-president and general manager of Tyco Security Products EMEA.

“With our demonstration centres and demonstration vans we can bring our newest security technologies directly to the integrator or their customer.”

Modelled after the existing demonstration and Training Centre near Heathrow, the new Manchester facility will feature live product demos and training programmes on the latest technologies and integrations from American Dynamics, Kantech, Software House, DSC, CEM Systems, Bentel Security and Visonic.

The new centre will allow installers and integrators to identify technologies best suited to a specific project, while end users have the capability to compare and contrast various solutions in an integrated environment. The Training Centre is also available to customers for generic and product-specific training courses, as well as other types of meetings.

Latest innovations brought direct to the customer

Similarly, the new demonstration vans are designed to bring the latest security innovations directly to the integrator or customer location, making it an ideal solution for those not able to attend a trade show or visit the demonstration centres in Heathrow or Manchester.

Integrators can also arrange to book the vans for a visit to a customer location to demonstrate specific Tyco Security Products’ technologies.
