Inspiration in HR Award organiser SSR Personnel unveils shortlist for 2018 trophy

The Inspiration in HR Award recognises the work of Human Resources (HR) professionals. Now in its 12th year, the award is open to either individuals or organisations. Judges are looking for Best Practice in HR management where an organisation recognises that HR is a business enabler.

This year’s finalists are Axis Communications, Axis Security, CIS Security, Gratte Brothers, Helen Corbett (of The Security Institute) and Wilson James.

To reach the shortlist, the above organisations demonstrated that they are wholly focused on quality and have a pride in looking after and developing their workforce.  There’s a partnership in HR and operations management.

Shortlisted companies consider that their HR function gives them a competitive edge. They clearly demonstrate going above and beyond any current standards. The Inspiration in HR Award is one that recognises a critical differentiator in business application.

David Clark CPP PCI PSP, chairman of ASIS International’s UK Chapter 208, commented: “This award is increasingly hard to judge, and this year has been even more challenging, I’m enormously pleased to see three organisations from outside of the security guarding sector, which usually comprises the majority of entries, making the shortlist. This is surely testimony to the prestige and expansiveness of this particular award.”

*The winning submission will be announced at the UBM-organised Security and Fire Excellence Awards Ceremony to be held at the London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane on Wednesday 21 November

Axis Security picks up record five nominations for 2018 Security and Fire Excellence Awards

Axis Security, a leading provider of bespoke security services, has been shortlisted in five categories at the 2018 Security and Fire Excellence Awards, including the prestigious Security Guarding Company of the Year, an award that the business has been nominated for across seven consecutive years and has won on three occasions.

Five nominations in the Security and Fire Excellence Awards, which are organised and hosted by UBM, marks a record achievement for the company, with the remaining nominations being for Contribution to Standards in the Security Sector, Security Training Initiative of the Year (with ‘Security Masterclass’), the Inspiration in HR Award and the ACS Champion of the Year (an award the company won last year).

Jonathan Levine, Axis Group’s CEO, stated: “The company’s employees are its most important asset, while its key focus is in customer service. By prioritising training and employee welfare initiatives, our officers in turn prioritise excellent service for our customers’ customers. These nominations are testament to this focus.”

Axis Security’s nomination for the Contribution to Standards in the Security Sector Award recognises the company’s proactive use of training and site audits, internal employee awards and its development of a contract management and performance measurement software platform. Specifically this year, the nomination is a result of Axis’ critical role in one of its customers achieving the ISO 22301 business continuity standard for its flagship building. The award was achieved one month ahead of schedule and is the client’s first property to achieve the accreditation.

The Inspiration in HR Award acknowledges those companies demonstrating that HR is a fundamental part of their business and invest in their people. It’s bestowed by SSR Personnel and adjudicated by a prestigious panel of industry experts.

“To have picked up this number of nominations is evidence of the hard work of all employees from HR, training and operational personnel through to our security officers,” explained Levine. “I’m extremely proud and grateful for all the hard work that has been integral to our successes this year.”

Pilgrims Group’s Afghanistan project wins Security and Fire Excellence Award for International Achievement

For the third year running, international security specialist Pilgrims Group has won a prestigious Security and Fire Excellence Award (SEA), this time around for its work on protecting an international aerospace electronics client in Afghanistan.

The project involved the very rapid mobilisation and full operation of a training school and maintenance centre providing the foundation for teaching Afghan engineer instructors and engineers to support the secure communications equipment provided to every major organisation in the Afghan Security Forces.

The Security and Fire Excellence Awards’ Judges clearly recognised the excellent teamwork required and the challenges of delivering such a project on time in the extremely challenging security context in Afghanistan. Also, they recognised the significance of the outcome – a sustainable capability of secure communications across all forces engaged in the fight against terrorism.

Pilgrims Group COO David Freear commented: “This award recognises the abilities of our teams working in some of the most challenging locations in the world, and we’re delighted and extremely proud to accept it. Their achievement is all the more impressive as this year has been particularly competitive, with entries for the Security and Fire Excellence Awards up by 17% compared to last year. Winning an award like this demonstrates that our peers in the industry acknowledge the quality of what we do. It’s a great testament to our staff who work so hard for our clients around the world.”

Last year, Pilgrims Group won the International Achievement Award at the Security and Fire Excellence Awards for its work having won the security contract in support of the British Consulates in Nigeria, redesigning the contracted security team configuration and transforming their performance, in parallel with enabling the continued development of the individual through innovative learning methodologies.

Engineers of Tomorrow 2016: Call for Entries

The prestigious Engineers of Tomorrow annual competition is now open for the fire and security industry’s brightest young engineers to register their interest. Successful entrants will then be invited to pit their skills against each other in a live installation challenge at Europe’s largest security exhibition, IFSEC International, which takes place in June.

Each year, more than 50 apprentice engineers participate in pairs to complete a 90-minute live challenge on the busy exhibition floor at IFSEC International, where they are then assessed by a leading panel of judges from the security industry’s inspectorates, the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) and the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB), and points allocated based on performance in the various disciplines.

Heat winners and their employers will be invited to the prestigious Security and Fire Excellence Awards where the winner will be announced and awarded a £1000 cash prize.

Simon Banks, group managing director at CSL DualCom Group, commented: “The purpose of the Engineers of Tomorrow competition is to showcase the very best talent the security industry has to offer. It recognises the value of skills in our sector. For any security installer businesses who’ve invested in an apprentice, the competition is a great opportunity to promote their competency on a world stage.”

Apprenticeships for Fire and Security

Engineers of Tomorrow is part of Apprenticeships for Fire and Security, an initiative that places apprentices into careers in the security industry and supports their development.

Sponsored by IFSEC International, CSL DualCom, the NSI, the SSAIB and Skills for Security, the scheme has already helped launch the careers of more than 3,000 young apprentices.

At the heart of the installation apprentice and young engineer industry, the competition will provide participants with a global stage to compete against their peers and represent their company.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three pairs of engineers, with a first prize of £1000 provided by CSL DualCom, the second prize (a £500 Red Letter Day) donated by the NSI  and, finally, a third prize of £300 supported by the SSAIB.

This year, IFSEC International will run from 21-23 June in 2016 at London’s ExCeL and will once again be presented as part of UBM EMEA’s Protection and Management Series, the UK’s largest event dedicated to protecting and managing property, people and information. In addition to IFSEC International, the series incorporates FIREX International, The Facilities Show, Safety & Health Expo and Service Management Expo.

Finalists for 2015 Security and Fire Excellence Awards revealed by organiser UBM

UBM – organiser of the Security and Fire Excellence Awards which is supported by leading industry events IFSEC and FIREX International – has announced the finalists for its 23 award categories covering the full spectrum of security and fire.

The winners will be announced at a prestigious gala ceremony on Wednesday 25 November 2015 at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane. The event will be hosted by Jimmy Carr. One of the UK’s biggest names in comedy and host of 8 out of 10 Cats, Carr will take to the stage to present the awards and also offer some light entertainment.

Now in its 17th year, the Security and Fire Excellence Awards recognise the skill and often bravery of professionals who play a crucial role that can be life-saving and yet unsung. The event serves as the ‘Oscars’ of the security and fire business sectors as well as being a great opportunity for networking.

Gerry Dunphy, event director for IFSEC and FIREX International, said: “This year has once again seen some really fantastic entrants from across such a wide range of companies working within security and fire. We’re very much looking forward to hosting the industry in November and recognising the hard work and dedication of those working within these business sectors while also celebrating the new innovations that are shaking up the market.”

A large number of entries were submitted and have been assessed by an expert Judging Panel. Last year, that Judging Panel included some of the industry’s leading professionals, among them Dr Alison Wakefield FSyl, senior lecturer in Security Risk Management at the University of Portsmouth, Alan Hildage FSyl FCMI MBCI RISC (chairman of the Association of Security Consultants) and Don Randall MBE, then CISO at the Bank of England.

Many of the finalists exhibited at IFSEC and FIREX International 2015, including MorphoWave by Morpho (which made the cut in the Access Control Product of the Year category), Cirrus Hybrid by Protec Fire Detection (shortlisted for the Active Fire Innovation of the Year category), Sony’s 4K camera, the SNC-VM772R (a finalist for the CCTV Camera Equipment of the Year award), SleepSafe (Combined Security & Fire Solution) and Kings Security (Large Security Installer of the Year).

Xtralis – the specialist in early and reliable detection and remote visual verification of fire, gas and security threats – is the headline sponsor for the 2015 Security and Fire Excellence Awards. Other sponsors include Magenta Security Services, Bouygues Energies & Services, Fire & Security Jobs, Servest and the Security Industry Authority.

This year’s charity partners are the Ghana Education Trust and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. In the past, this event has raised funds for – among others – the Children’s Burns Trust, ActionAid and Victim Support.
