Security professional Barrie Millett: ‘Surviving The Yomp’ for the RMCTF

Barrie Millett MSyI – head of business resilience at E.ON and a director of the National Business Crime Forum – has taken on the dual challenge of fundraising for Royal Marines in need and ‘Surviving The Yomp’.

Following national service in the Royal Marines, Millett successfully transitioned into the corporate environment and fully believes the experiences he received in the Marines have played a significant role in his many successes with the corporate security world.

Now, Barrie would very much like to give something back by supporting the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF) and, in turn, helping those who have given so much to their nation.

In addition, Millett will be taking on the ‘Surviving The Yomp’ challenge – an arduous 30-miler across rough terrain mirroring the gruelling final test all Royal Marines have to face and survive in order to gain their Green Beret. A challenge Millett first completed three decades ago.

Why the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund?

“The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund helps Royal Marines and their families when they need it most,” explained Millett.

“They help the wounded and injured. They give quality of life to those returning from operations and, when the worst happens, they support the families of those who die in service.”

The RMCTF has the widest purpose of almost any service charity. Quite simply, the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund will help when others cannot.

“I will be taking part in the Yomp as part of fundraising for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust during what is the 350th birthday year of the Royal Marines,” explained Millett. “I’d be very grateful for any support. I’ve just started my sponsorship campaign.”
