HID Global launches cloud platform to help create “worldwide innovation ecosystem” for connected workplaces

Trusted identity solutions specialist HID Global has announced the availability of its HID Origo cloud platform that “opens a brand new world of opportunities” for partners to create more seamless and intuitive workplace experiences built on HID’s proven access control infrastructure.

The platform combines HID’s technologies for mobile IDs (and location services in the future) with the company’s expansive access control architecture to bring together physical security and a wide range of building applications, services and Internet of Things (IoT) use cases via a unified cloud experience.

“HID Origo lays the foundation for a broad ecosystem of cloud-based access control technologies, products, services and business models that will accelerate workplace innovation,” said Hilding Arrehed, vice-president of cloud services within the Physical Access Control division at HID Global. “This solution dramatically increases our partners’ capabilities to create more connected and seamless building experiences for end users. The new platform provides an app-based innovation model that delivers a comprehensive suite of integration, enablement, developer tools and services geared towards simplifying how partners and a growing community of new developers and resellers bring access control solutions to market. Rather than requiring that entire solutions be developed and enabled one customer or site at a time, HID Origo makes it possible to develop new applications and integrated solutions for HID’s complete installed base of millions of access control devices and systems all at once.

How HID Origo works

The HID Origo platform embeds cloud connections and IoT functionality as app extensions into mobile devices, HID readers and controllers, and gives developers direct access to this hardware via HID Origo application programming interfaces and software developer kits already proven through HID’s mobile access solution.

The platform also enables data analytics to be used for new capabilities, including remote reader configuration, predictive access control system maintenance and intent detection for more seamless and personalised workplace experiences.

Enabling new business models

Today, the platform enables subscription-based services, with customers already taking advantage of the model’s simplicity. Examples include a deployment by a world-leading biotechnology company who has been an early adopter of HID Origo subscription services for ordering and managing mobile ID replenishment over the air when employees lose or must replace their smart phones.

The company has replaced its traditional access control readers with 2,300 Bluetooth-enabled iCLASS SE readers to support its mixed environment of 12,000 mobile IDs and 40,000 Seos ID cards.

The subscription billing model offered through HID Origo makes it easier for the company to order and manage mobile IDs while improving forecasting, budgeting and reporting. It also actively streamlines transferring mobile ID subscription licenses across employees and registering multiple mobile IDs across multiple devices without any additional cost.

NIT signs distribution agreement with IDIS for Middle East and Africa region

Ingram Micro company NIT, the regional value-added distributor of IP surveillance and physical security solutions in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, has just signed a distribution agreement with IDIS, one of the largest manufacturers of security and surveillance technology in South Korea and a globally recognised leader in advanced surveillance innovation.

ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions names initial partner businesses for CLIQ Go

A number of security providers have signed up to be dedicated partners for the new CLIQ Go from ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY (the door opening solutions specialist).

The named security businesses include High Security Locking near Aylesbury, William Channon in London and John Planck Ltd in Chatham. By agreeing to be a CLIQ Go partner, these security providers have access to exclusive training and support from ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions to help them market and sell the platform.

Enabling SMEs to control security across their premises from a smart phone app, CLIQ Go combines mechanical and electronic security capabilities in order to meet the needs of today’s busy working environments.

The user-friendly CLIQ Go smart phone app allows business owners and authorised individuals to manage a site’s security from the cloud via a mobile phone, tablet or PC. Individual access rights can be instantly revoked or updated from these devices, subsequently enhancing security while also delivering the flexibility needed to amend these access rights ‘on the go’.

TDSi partners with Milestone at Integration Expo UK

Integrated security solutions manufacturer TDSi will be appearing as a partner at the Milestone Integration Expo UK, which is being held at the Hilton at St George’s Park Hotel, Burton Upon Trent on Wednesday 19 September.

Genetec unveils collaborative case management system to improve investigation workflows

Genetec, a leading provider of open architecture IP security solutions, has developed Genetec Clearance, a case management system specifically designed to speed up investigations by allowing different organisations to collect, manage and share video evidence and other relevant case information.

Genetec Clearance is expected to be available in Q4 2016 via subscription, through certified Genetec channel partners and resellers.

Genetec Clearance allows police officers, investigators and security managers to gather digital evidence from a variety of sources (such as Genetec’s Security Center and other video management systems, body-worn devices, in-car systems and mobile phone footage from bystanders and witnesses) and easily store, manage, review and share it from within a single application.

Genetec Clearance enables collaboration across independent agencies and private sector organisations. All pertinent files related to cases (video files as well as audio, images and documents, etc) are centralised and can be securely shared between investigators or requested by third parties without needing to physically ship or deliver the recordings.

As the application is not licensed per seat, access can be shared with as many users as needed without incurring any additional fees. With built-in video redaction (patent pending), the privacy of bystanders can be protected by allowing identifiable information to be masked before sending video to other stakeholders. All user actions initiated within the system, whether internal or external, are automatically tracked to ensure the chain of custody of the evidence is maintained at all times.

“The increased evidence that’s now available from video surveillance systems, body-worn cameras and witnesses can help solve crimes,” explained Erick Ceresato, product manager at Genetec. “However, the sheer amount of data to be managed can also become cumbersome to process and review, in turn increasing the time spent on case preparation rather than the investigation itself. That’s why we’ve developed a case management system to help automate certain tasks that are frequently performed on a manual basis and to facilitate collaboration between law enforcement, corporate security departments, legal entities and the public.”

Today’s organisations are looking at ways to streamline their evidence sharing process while maintaining stringent audit capabilities. The growing volume of video recordings has become increasingly complex to manage and it’s important for users to collaborate while also maintaining a clear chain of custody. As Genetec Clearance supports many common video codecs, video evidence can easily be reviewed, while also eliminating the time-consuming manual process of video codec conversion.

Designed as an open platform, Genetec Clearance APIs can be used to integrate with third party systems and automate the upload of video recordings and associated metadata to be reviewed within the system. Integration with Record Management Systems enables law enforcement departments to automate the creation of new cases with their existing record system, thereby reducing the need for duplicate data entry.

Genetec Clearance is available on a subscription basis and includes access to all the latest software updates and features. Updates are automated within the system as they become available, requiring no additional intervention from the client’s own staff.
