MITIE Group plc acquires leading screening company Procius

MITIE Group plc, the strategic outsourcing organisation, has announced the acquisition of Procius – a leading UK pre-employment screening company – from the management team.

Procius is a specialist in pre-employment screening and vetting, and has particular expertise in the aviation and transportation sectors.

This acquisition will provide MITIE’s Total Security Management business with additional niche capability and support its growth as one of the UK’s largest providers of pre-employment screening, competency management and criminal records checking services.

The combined business provides solutions for over 3,000 customers across all sectors. The acquisition will add an operational hub in Basingstoke to MITIE’s well-established PeopleCert and UKCRBs businesses located at MiTec (MITIE’s technology hub in Northern Ireland).

MITIE Group plc, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, has acquired UK CRBs Ltd (‘UKCRBs’), the criminal records checking service, from the management team.

UKCRBs is one of the largest providers of online criminal records checking services in the UK, and gives MITIE’s Total Security Management (TSM) business a scalable platform to compete in the rapidly growing screening and vetting market. UKCRBs will now be integrated into MITIE’s existing employee screening offering ‘PeopleCert’.

The acquisition will enhance criminal record checking capabilities, improve turnaround times and expand MITIE’s technology platform. For their part, UKCRBs customers will also benefit from access to a wider range of services and greater flexibility.

The combined business has over 600 customers in the health, financial services, education, communications and local authority sectors and the service will continue to be supported by MiTec, MITIE’s technology hub in Northern Ireland.

The acquisition offers synergies with our existing security business and will allow us to bid for larger scale screening and vetting contracts.”

The UK outsourced screening and vetting market is estimated to be worth around £85 million per annum. The market is growing all the while as companies identify the risks associated with recruiting individuals without a full knowledge of their background and the increasing regulation in this area.
