Hanwha Techwin and Veracity agree global marketing partnership

Hanwha Techwin (formerly Samsung Techwin), the manufacturer of video surveillance solutions, is introducing a low power, high capacity storage solution in partnership with Veracity, the IP transmission and surveillance storage specialist.

The combined solution, encompassing the latest generation of Hanwha Techwin’s HD cameras, SSM video management software and COLDSTORE storage offers “the most efficient direct to disk system available” and doesn’t require any NVRs.

The open platform capability of the WiseNetIII camera range is used to enable recording from the IP camera direct to the COLDSTORE disk array. Further, the use of LINKLOCK tamper-proof Ethernet-over-Coax technology, which is exclusively available from Hanwha Techwin, provides a “total barrier” to all unauthorised network access by fully blocking external IP connections to any cable or equipment that has either been tampered with or disconnected.

“The partnerships we have established with specialist technology providers such as Veracity are a key component of our ongoing major investment in R&D,” said Cheol Kyo Kim, president and CEO of the Hanwha Techwin Co Limited. “They’re a clear demonstration of our commitment to offer market leadership and provide end users with a total security solution.”

CheolKyoKimAlastairMcLeod

Kim continued: “When supported by COLDSTORE, our cameras and sophisticated, professional-level SSM VMS deliver a truly impressive and unique architecture known as TRINITY. It’s an excellent example of how, by working in harmony with our technology partners, Hanwha Techwin has become a one-stop shop for video surveillance solutions.”

Hanwha Techwin’s leader added: “This global marketing partnership will enable us to jointly raise awareness of a low power, high performance solution which gives installers and systems integrators a competitive edge. It also offers end users a highly cost-effective and complete video surveillance system that takes full advantage of our open platform HD camera technology and minimises total cost of ownership.”

The global marketing partnership was formalised at a signing ceremony held at Veracity’s UK head offices in Prestwick, Scotland on Wednesday 6 April.

Worldwide open platform opportunities

The solution takes advantage of the processing power of Hanwha Techwin’s WiseNetIII open platform cameras, which enables them to simultaneously run multiple specialist video analytics applications as well as Veracity’s TRINITY™ ‘direct-to-disk’ recording solution.

The solution provides end users with a robust and scalable system which doesn’t require a server or network recording device. Despite its simplified architecture, it’s able to support audio and metadata as well as video, while also offering innovative features such as camera-level fail-over, resilience to network interruptions and optional fully-redundant recording.

“I’m delighted that Hanwha Techwin has chosen to work closely with us to promote worldwide innovative video surveillance solutions that capitalise on groundbreaking technology,” said Alastair McLeod, Veracity’s Group CEO. “TRINITY delivers what we believe is the most power-efficient, reliable and complete surveillance recording solution available today.”

HanwhaWisetNet IIICameras

McLeod concluded: “We expect there to be increasing worldwide opportunities for Hanwha Techwin video surveillance solutions and products such as LINKLOCK and TRINITY to be specified for the same application. This has already happened with a number of large projects jointly won or in the pipeline across a wide range of market sectors, including city surveillance, housing, youth hostels, hospitals and petrol stations.”

VMS specialist Wavestore appoints Hamaad Deen to pre-sales manager role

Open platform Video Management Software (VMS) developer Wavestore has appointed Hamaad Deen as pre-sales manager. In this role, Deen will be working closely with the company’s client partners to assist in the design and development of major new projects both here in the UK and on the international stage.

A key aspect of the newly-created role will be to ensure that all solution requirements are deliverable within the required timescales and able to meet the client’s expectations.

Deen, who holds a BSc in Computer Science, has been Wavestore’s technical sales engineer since 2010 and has an expert understanding of how Wavestore can bring real advantage to system integrators and end users alike if they deploy Wavestore’s systems at the very heart of their security solution.

Hamaad Deen

Hamaad Deen

“Hamaad is a natural problem solver as well as an excellent communicator,” said Glenn Fletcher,  head of sales for Wavestore. “He also has extensive knowledge of a wide range of third party systems, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of what we can achieve with our open platform VMS. Hamaad is the ideal person to take on this very important role, a key aspect of which is to ‘make the complex simple’ by understanding what customers are looking to achieve and, in the process, helping them to unlock the full potential of their security systems.”

Fletcher added: “Hamaad’s appointment will also reinforce our ability to support installers and systems integrators who are members of our ‘Better Together’ Partner Programme.”

The Wavestore ‘Better Together’ Partner Programme is designed to offer “real-world advantages” to those companies involved in the design, installation and commissioning of video surveillance solutions. A key feature of the programme is the provision of dedicated pre-sales project support for large or otherwise complex applications.

Additional benefits include project registration, system design and tender submission support, as well as access to training, free demonstration licences and PR services.

Samsung all set to offer “out-of-the-box” software solutions on dedicated WiseNetIII Open Platform cameras

Last year, Samsung Techwin introduced its WiseNetIII Open Platform camera range. These bullet, dome and body camera variations run the very latest high performance DSP chipset, giving enough processing power to simultaneously use multiple edge-based applications. Now, Samsung Techwin Europe has given advance notice that the business intends to supply WiseNetIII models with pre-loaded applications.

Here, technology partner manager Dan England explains to Risk UK why Samsung Techwin Europe is going down the route of offering cameras with pre-loaded software, duly highlighting who will benefit from this significant move which is specifically designed to provide out-of-the-box solutions and, in turn, elevate video surveillance from simply being a security system to a smart solution that can deliver so much more for end customers.

Risk UK: Dan, first of all can you tell Risk UK’s readers about your career to date?

Dan England: Yes, of course. I’m now in my seventeenth year in the security sector and, in that time, I’ve gained experience as an integrator and project manager. I’ve also worked for manufacturers of both access control and CCTV solutions. These days, I have developed a specific interest in edge-based video applications.

Risk UK: Can you also explain what your present role as technology partner manager entails?

Dan England: My overall objective is to ensure that we’re best placed to provide end users with significant added value from their video surveillance systems.

Since Samsung Techwin Europe launched the WiseNetIII Open Platform camera range, we’ve been approached by countless software development companies who want to capitalise on the new business opportunities that can be created by running their solutions on the WiseNetIII cameras.

Dan England

Dan England

My role is to manage, encourage and support all of these application developers, as well as video management software (VMS) providers, and work with them in partnership to ensure that our mutual customers have the freedom to choose from a wide range and combination of Samsung-approved solutions.

Risk UK: If you’re intending to pre-load applications on to WiseNetIII cameras, will this not restrict a customer’s choice as to which application they can work with?

Dan England: No, not at all. After listening to market feedback, it makes perfect sense to offer a number of ‘pre-packed’ options for those customers that are perhaps new to video analytics or would benefit from a simple ‘no-fuss’ purchase.

It’s also important to emphasise that customers will still be able to buy Samsung WiseNetIII cameras without any pre-loaded software and still have the option to upload applications of their choice as required. Following the connection of a WiseNetIII camera to the network, installers or operators simply need to upload their preferred app via the camera’s browser.

Risk UK: What are the advantages of ordering Samsung WiseNetIII cameras with pre-loaded applications?

Dan England: Our decision to do this is based on enhancing Samsung’s reputation as a brand that can always be trusted to look for ways to not only make it easier for customers to deploy our video surveillance solutions, but also for them to achieve maximum return on investment. In this respect, Open Platform is an exciting game-changer which we’re determined to help customers take advantage of on a continual basis.

Samsung'S WiseNetIII cameras

Samsung’S WiseNetIII cameras

By pre-loading software which we’ve fully tested and evaluated, we will be saving installers, systems integrators and end users considerable time and effort in having to research the fast-growing list of available applications.

Plus, since we’ve worked very closely with the respective developers of the applications, customers can be assured of a seamless integrated solution that’s easy to configure.

Risk UK: What kind of applications are you recommending to customers?

Dan England: Well, the good news is that some applications, such as Arteco Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Facit video analytics, are already available pre-loaded on Samsung WiseNetIII cameras.

In addition to video analytics, we’ll be offering WiseNetIII cameras and domes pre-loaded with storage, people counting, intruder and perimeter protection applications as well as specialist retail analysis solutions.

Over the coming months, I’ve no doubt that many more different types of applications will emerge.

As predicted when the WiseNetIII series was first launched, one thing we can be certain of is that we will be able to look back in a year or so and be amazed at the diversity of applications that have been introduced. The very latest out-of-the-box application is in fact a specialist time-lapse solution from Pernixia which has been developed to meet the requirements of the broadcast and construction industries.

Risk UK: It sounds like it might be quite complicated for customers to order WiseNetIII cameras with the right application pre-loaded, and particularly so if they want to take advantage of the cameras’ ability to run more than one application. Is that the case?

Dan England: In reality this will not be a problem. Using smart part numbers, we will make it a ‘no fuss’ process for customers to identify and order the ideal camera/applications combination.

Risk UK: Who are your preferred suppliers of these applications and which regions do they cover?

Dan England: We will publish a complete list on our website in the very near future with a mixture of European and global solutions. In the meantime, I’m available on e-mail (d.england@samsung.coM) to offer advice and guidance on the best option for specific projects.

Wavestore ensures smooth VMS-based security solution for Harley-Davidson dealerships

Wavestore’s Video Management Software (VMS) is helping to maintain a high level of security at two Harley-Davidson dealerships on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States of America.

Harley-Davidson of NYC Tribeca is a unique two-level space in the heart of New York City which has become a recent welcome addition for bike enthusiasts from the area and for visitors from around the world.

The Manhattan-located dealership is run by Asaf Jacobi, president of Harley-Davidson NYC, who also has responsibility for the Harley-Davidson of NYC’s main dealership in Queens.

With a requirement to deter would-be thieves, as well as create a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors at both dealerships, Jacobi turned to New York-based systems integrator AISG to solve the security needs.

Jacobi wanted a full turnkey solution which would not only cover security requirements in terms of alarm and video systems, but also provide the media needs of the stores by way of a state-of-the-art monitor wall and sound system.

Wavestore was selected for the video surveillance part of the project. An old analogue video surveillance system in the Queens outlet was upgraded to a hybrid system while the Manhattan dealership was equipped with a total IP network solution.

AISG worked closely with the Harley-Davidson NYC IT Department to set up remote alarm and video monitoring, as well as local networks, while a Wavestore management and storage server was set up to support domes and 360 degree cameras manufactured by Vivotek. Configuring the cameras was “seamless” thanks to Wavestore’s open platform technology.

Full service destination

Located in Long Island City for over 25 years, the main Queens store is a full service destination. While both locations offer the authentic Harley-Davidson experience, when designing the Manhattan store, Jacobi took into account why customers flock to the Queens location and turned it up a notch.

What visitors see is the world’s first and only Harley-Davidson Powerwall, with two multi-touch kiosks that let them design, instantly view and save their custom bikes on a movie screen-sized display.

There’s also a Leather Lounge Café and coffee bar, a Glass Bike Lift suspended from the ceiling and a premium selection of accessories and apparel.

“With a lot going on at both locations, the ability to view the stores remotely gives me mobility and more freedom to move around,” explained Jacobi. “The system is reliable and offers flexibility. Plus it’s easy to use and, as I learn more, the product becomes consistently better over time. You can really tell the difference. The new system is more effective. I’m able to zoom in and focus on one area and realise a really clear image.”

The Wavestore solution deployed at the two dealerships is scalable and provides a platform that makes integration between disparate technologies simple. Jacobi will be able to deploy additional cameras if and when required and, with Wavestore’s ability to support third party technologies such as video analytics, there are plans afoot to take full advantage of the open platform VMS to capture valuable business intelligence and operational data with a view to maximising customer satisfaction.

Jacobi is also considering integrating the stores’ access control systems in order to obtain visual verification of who has entered restricted areas like staff and stock rooms.

Samsung Techwin at IFSEC International 2015: “Securing Your Future Through Partnership”

CCTV and security solutions specialist Samsung Techwin has announced that the theme for the company’s stand at IFSEC International 2015 will be ‘Securing Your Future Through Partnership’.

Tim Biddulph, who has recently been appointed head of product and marketing at Samsung Techwin Europe, explained the thinking behind this year’s theme.

“Visitors to our stand will have the opportunity to see demonstrations of a wide range of innovative and competitively-priced video surveillance solutions. Of equal importance, we will also be taking the opportunity to highlight how, by way of partnerships, Samsung Techwin can help installers and systems integrators generate new revenue streams.”

Biddulph added: “In addition to highlighting the benefits of joining the Samsung Techwin Eco Partnership Programme, we will also be demonstrating how, in partnership with leading developers of innovative third party technologies such as video analytics, we are able to elevate video surveillance from just being a security system to a smart solution that can deliver so much more for end user customers.”

Tim Biddulph of Samsung Techwin

Tim Biddulph of Samsung Techwin

Among the products on show on Stand G800 at London’s ExCeL between 16-18 June will be Samsung Techwin’s new WiseNet Lite cameras and NVRs equipped with a built in PoE+ switch.

These cameras and NVRs have been designed to work alongside each other to provide highly affordable ‘value engineered’ solutions to meet the budget limitations, not to mention the functionality requirements of any video surveillance project.

“Our open platform WiseNetIII models will also be prominently displayed,” explained Biddulph. “Since their introduction, these cameras and domes have proved to be highly popular with installers and systems integrators as the processing power of the WiseNetIII DSP Chipset is such that we can provide customers with the flexibility to choose the perfect combination of edge-based Applications and video management software to best match a given project’s requirements.”

As in previous years, visitors to the Samsung Techwin stand will be able to witness demonstrations of the company’s video surveillance solutions within the context of a number of vertical market scenarios.

There will also be an opportunity to get ‘hands-on’ with the new WiseNet Lite and PoE NVRs, enabling customers to understand that there has not been any compromise in respect of either performance or build quality.
