The deal, which is supported by Clydesdale Bank Cashflow Finance, has also increased CSS’ customer base to over 25,000.

Paul Connelly, managing director at CSS, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to increase both the customer base and geographic coverage of CSS through the acquisition of a quality business which the vendors have developed over the last 18 years. I was delighted to receive the continued support of Clydesdale Bank, whom we have worked with for over 30 years, which enabled the acquisition terms to be agreed quickly and completion achieved in a short timescale. It’s an important milestone in CSS’ journey and we look forward to continuing to grow the business and enhance the service we can offer to our customers.”

CSS, which launched in 1986, is based in the Possil Park area of Glasgow and the acquisition sees its headcount increase to 130.

Mark Young, director of SME Cashflow Finance at Clydesdale Bank, added: “We have developed an excellent working relationship with CSS. Its ongoing commitment to delivering the optimal customer experience at every interaction is an approach that makes the company a successful business. The business has been involved in a number of acquisitions which have been successfully integrated into the CSS operating model. This has created strong sustainable cashflow enabling this sizeable acquisition to be funded through our Cashflow Finance offering.”

David MacKay, the previous owner of AFA Fire & Security Ltd, will continue to be involved in the business in the short term to ensure a smooth transition. The acquisition will not result in any reduction in workforce.

Hanwha Techwin’s BabyView eco monitoring system and its Wisenet Circle Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based security manager application have both won their respective categories in the prestigious 2018 iF Design Awards.

This is the second year Hanwha Techwin products have been recognised by the judges of the prestigious iF Design Awards which, since 1953, have recognised designs that are able to achieve the best results when commercially applied. Regarded as one of the world’s top three design competitions, along with Germany’s Red Dot Design Awards and the US’ International Design Excellence Awards, this year’s competition generated 6,400 entries from 54 countries.

BabyView eco, the winner of the product category, has a unique design and friendly appearance which reflects the features of a baby camera. Available in Europe during the second quarter of 2018, BabyView eco has a long-tail design which can be installed in virtually any location.

Dahua and GJD partnership delivers advanced detector-activated surveillance

Dahua Technology’s network video recorders (NVRs) now have a direct integration with IP-based outdoor detectors from GJD Manufacturing Limited. This integration provides end users with high quality and reliable detector-activated surveillance and monitoring.

The D-TECT IP range of detectors and Clarius PLUS IP illuminators have been integrated with Dahua’s NVR6-4KS2 range, an enterprise-level NVR providing up to 4K resolution. Its open architecture supports multi-user access and it’s compatible with ONVIF 2.4, enabling interoperability when combined with third party 4K cameras.

The NVR includes intelligent video analytics to detect people and moving objects, as well as other predetermined events, such as abandoned or missing objects, tripwire detection, people counting and facial detection.

The integration was achieved by incorporating GJD’s API on a special firmware that enables the NVR to accept alarms from the detectors and link them to the recorder’s functions.

The BS 8418-compliant IP detectors are suitable for intruder monitoring, CCTV surveillance and other alarm warning requirements, providing both volumetric and long-range narrow field-of-view sensing, in addition to remote programming.

Eric Wang, head of product support for Dahua UK and Ireland, said: “We’re thrilled to have integrated our NVRs with GJD’s IP detectors, providing a professional detection and alarm monitoring solution that’s a fantastic addition to our security portfolio.”

Mark Tibbenham, GJD’s managing director, commented: “We are delighted to partner with Dahua Technology. The integration of Dahua’s surveillance products with GJD’s D-TECT IP motion detectors and Clarius illuminators will provide end users with high quality, reliable and efficient surveillance solutions.”

From 2006 to 2012, Brady worked in the FM sector where he was responsible for a number of key divisions including retail and commercial security guarding, overseeing account growth and development in both areas.

At Initial Security, where Brady worked from 1990 to 2006, he served as national account director specialising in the retail sector and managing a UK portfolio worth over £10 million as well as supporting 16 branches in five different regions.

New managing director for Monitoring and Systems Division

Roberts, who was previously business development director for Corps Security’s monitoring operation, joined The Shield Group on 1 August to manage the day-to-day operations of the Monitoring and Systems Division. He’s based in the company’s headquarters at Austin Friars, London.

Roberts brings with him a wealth of experience, having started his career over 28 years ago as a security engineer, securing and monitoring CCTV systems for several blue chip companies in the UK.
