The Experience Centre is the focal point of the new Innovation Hub and features six 65-inch screens as well as a video wall. The Experience Centre’s look and feel can be easily adapted to mirror that of the company brand using the Centre, and offers users a dynamic virtual presentation experience that captures the innovative nature of the Milestone community of technology partners.

The Innovation Hub has a working demo set-up of Milestone’s software and hardware solutions, together with some of its ecosystem partner integrations including – but not limited to – partners such as Axis Communications, BriefCam, Venzo, Nedap, Lenel and Bosch. This means that end users and channel partners alike can experience Milestone’s next generation open platform capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence-based video analytics (eg facial recognition) or user-friendly integrations for perimeter protection solutions like radars and intrusion detection systems.

A new training facility was also showcased at the launch event and will welcome up to 25 attendees at a time to take part in a variety of one-hour Continuing Professional Development courses in addition to Milestone’s certification courses that are already up-and-running. The training facility is also available to the Milestone partner community to use as training hub for a range of sessions.

Neil Killick, regional leader for Northern Europe at Milestone Systems, commented: “The launch of this new Innovation Hub in the UK is testament to the performance and dedication of the UK team. I’m proud to open this new facility that’s as much for our wider community as it is for the team here. Milestone’s open platform is the driver of innovation and collaborative solutions in the security space and beyond. The same spirit of openness is behind the launch of this new Innovation Hub.”

The overriding aim of the new facility is to nurture Milestone community partnerships, better showcase the open platform capabilities and introduce Milestone and its technology partners to vertical sectors beyond the security space.

Global accolade viewed as Milestone for Secom

Secom’s ongoing and diligent work at the cutting edge of CCTV-based security has won a global accolade for the nationwide company. Use of the internationally acclaimed Milestone VMS for systems serving some of its leading UK customers has resulted in Secom being named as Milestone’s 2018 Northern Europe Partner of the Year.

The award was announced at the recent Milestone Integration Platform Symposium, an event that brings together partners from the Americas, EMEA and APAC regions who collaborate, network and learn about global trends in the VMS space.

Secom’s commercial, sales and marketing director Alan Blake enthused: “We were delighted to hear that we had been nominated for an award and even more so to be named as the winner. This award is evidence of the sterling work that Secom has delivered in leveraging innovative, industry-leading solutions on the Milestone platform. We look forward to engineering more solutions in this way during 2019.”

Milestone’s open platform provides VMS options for applications ranging from single retail stores through to multi-site and city-wide monitoring systems.

Blake continued: “On this platform we’re able to offer our customers the ability to monitor several cameras simultaneously. This provides enhanced security as well as the opportunity to make management decisions – such as the need to open additional till points – based on real-time observations of in-store conditions.”

In addition, Blake stated: “Coupled with our track record in addressing retail crime through the analysis of intelligence gathered from CCTV, Secom can now offer an advanced security process with the potential to slash retailers’ losses to crime and enable the police to successfully prosecute repeat offenders.”

Milestone Systems introduces ‘Push-To-Talk’ feature in Mobile Client

In the latest update of Milestone Systems’ XProtect 2019 R1 video management software (VMS), the company has introduced two-way audio in the Mobile Client, enabling end users to speak to people on camera directly from their mobile devices.

The first XProtect release of 2019 extends the usability of the Smart Client and takes it outside the Control Room with support for both one and two-way audio in the Mobile Client. This is beneficial for ‘on-the-go’ security personnel whose tasks require them to be away from the Smart Client on occasion.

One-way audio allows end users to listen to audio captured by the microphone connected to the camera directly from their mobile phones using the Milestone Mobile application. Users can also increase their situational awareness when video isn’t available, such as in extreme darkness or when an incident happens outside of the camera’s viewing range.

Two-way audio takes the audio capability a step further with Push-to-Talk, a feature that allows users to speak through the camera-connected speaker directly from their mobile phones. This enables security personnel to use their VMS systems preventatively for things like access control, crowd warnings and intruder alerts – all available on mobile.

The 2019 R1 version of XProtect also includes support for two-way audio in the Web Client. Two-way audio allows end users to speak through the camera-connected speaker directly from the Web Client anywhere. This transforms the VMS system into an interactive tool and allows users to respond quickly to access control requests and incident prevention without having to be present in the Control Room or on-premise.

The 2019 R1 version of XProtect takes the system’s resistance against cyber security threats a step forward by encrypting all communication between the recording server and other servers and clients connected to it. This certificate-based encryption requires that all components communicating with the recording server (including third party solutions integrated with the VMS system) follow a strict certification process, guaranteeing the system’s resistance against cyber security threats. This system design provides the end user with the best level of performance encrypted end-to-end.

Milestone Systems releases support for ONVIF-based camera line from MOBOTIX

Milestone Systems released its Device Pack 10.0a in October and now supports the MOBOTIX MOVE camera series. MOBOTIX MOVE is an independent product line providing customers with everything from a single source. MOVE stands for the use of mechanically moving parts in the cameras, meaning that MOBOTIX has parted with its previous product policy of only offering decentralised video systems. The MOBOTIX MOVE product line is the first motorised devices and ONVIF-based camera line to be produced by MOBOTIX.

“We’re glad to be supporting the first ONVIF-compliant products introduced by MOBOTIX as we believe this will enable us to realise a faster release to market going forward,” said Jesper Just Jensen, vice-president of products at Milestone Systems.

With the Device Pack 10.0a, Milestone Systems also supports new firmware for MOBOTIX’s Mx6 cameras. Mx6 cameras use a powerful CPU that delivers up to 34 fps in Full-HD. This allows for even better capture of quick movements. The camera line has more capacity for software applications (such as 3D motion analysis and license plate capture) in the camera.

Philipp Helmes, MOBOTIX’s product manager for integration solutions, observed: “Milestone Systems is one of the largest technology partners for MOBOTIX AG. Due to the growing global demand for our cyber-secure premium cameras, we’re very pleased to announce the release of the Device Pack 10.0a, which now enables the integration of the entire MOBOTIX camera world into the Milestone VMS, our Mx6 Internet of Things series as well as the latest MOVE cameras.”

Milestone Systems now supports more than 7,000 devices. 40% of its drivers are integrated through ONVIF, an open industry forum that provides and promotes standardised interfaces for the effective interoperability of IP-based physical security products and solutions.
