Cable-free access control solutions specialist LOCKEN celebrates 15 years of innovation in security sector

LOCKEN was established in 2003, combining the knowledge and expertise of its three founders: Arnaud Flecchia, Roland de la Chapelle and Stéphane Conreux. Those founders have “transformed” the business of access control thanks to breakthrough technology based on intelligent keys and user-friendly software, bringing to market a solution that required no wiring or maintenance. This was a remarkable leap forward that has fully benefited security provision for major telecoms, energy and water distribution infrastructures, where isolated and sensitive external sites are the norm.

In 2004, just a year after the company was established, the LOCKEN key was sending its data via a remote device directly connected to the system. Awarded the Trophée de l’Innovation in 2007, LOCKEN picked up the pace of innovation from then on.

In 2009, the company released the LOCKEN Web Request software application, a complementary module improving co-ordination of the activities of technicians on sites. 2014 saw the advent of the MyLocken application and new customised services were developed around access control.

The following year, the application took on a new dimension in order to meet the specific needs of customers with customised functions, such as authorisations, declarations of presence on site and reporting of anomalies, combined with new technologies like beacon and RFID.

In 2015, LOCKEN completed development of the software application termed LOCKEN Smart Access (LSA), the first multi-technology access management platform, making it a major breakthrough that would emerge as the cornerstone of its future strategy since the system was now capable of controlling different types of identifiers such as keys, badges and smart phones.

Last year, LSA’s ergonomics were upgraded to a more graphic approach in line with new practices using applications like Google Maps.

LOCKEN15Years2

Over time, major companies in the transport industry, banking and local Government sectors have followed the lead of multi-site companies and turned to LOCKEN for assistance, attracted by its “customer business line optimisation” philosophy.

In 2016, the merger with Italian manufacturer ISEO opened up new avenues and the contactless key with a Bluetooth module arrived on the scene. More efficient and more secure, it has allowed LOCKEN to build leading-edge equipment into its offer.

LOCKEN works across UK and Europe to secure large-scale exhibition venues for end users

LOCKEN – the developer of cable-free access control whose solution concentrates on power, intelligence and communication in one smart key – is presently working with a number of UK and European convention centres to secure their large exhibition venues.

Exhibition and conference centres employ hundreds of staff and see thousands of visitors pass through their doors each day that an event is running. On that basis, it’s vital that their infrastructure, assets, staff, service providers and customers operate in a safe and secure environment, all backed-up by a robust access control solution.

With clients including The NEC in Birmingham, The Convention Centre, Dublin and Marseille’s Chanot Exhibition and Convention Centre, LOCKEN provides a secure and traceable access control management solution based on CyberLock technology.

“The LOCKEN system enables us to provide bespoke access for our clients as and when it’s required,” asserted Philip Hartigan, head of security at The Convention Centre in Dublin. “It allows us to monitor and restrict access to specific areas, meaning that we’ve been able to re-allocate security officers who were previously responsible for opening restricted access areas, signing out keys and monitoring key registers.”

Nick Dooley, managing director of LOCKEN UK, added: “Ensuring the safety of people and the security of goods while providing maximum productivity is our priority. Monitoring and controlling restricted access is paramount, with data capture and analysis providing vital information in the event of a security breach.”

Dooley continued: “We’ve secured over one million access points worldwide and take great pride in offering a robust and reliable access control solution to an industry that’s vulnerable to risks such as terrorism, vandalism and theft which are associated with larger public venue.”

LOCKEN launches intelligent CyberKey Vault 20S technology solution for safe key storage

LOCKEN – the developer of cable-free access control technology whose solution concentrates on power, intelligence and communication in one smart key – has announced the addition of the CyberKey Vault 20S to its range.

Based on Cyberlock technology, the Vault 20S brings additional value to LOCKEN’s solution in those environments where it’s more appropriate or advantageous to keep the keys in a centralised location.

The LOCKEN Vault

The vault prevents keys from ever leaving the premises and, with an integrated on-board computer, it’s designed to secure up to 20 rechargeable digital keys at any one time.

The keys retained in the Vault 20S remain un-programmed until an authorised user presents an approved PIN or RFID device to the vault. The vault’s internal server will then programme a key with the specified permissions. Once the end user has returned the key to the cabinet, it charges the key’s battery and downloads the audit trail from its memory.

LOCKEN works alongside UK Power Networks to secure critical electricity supply infrastructures

LOCKEN – the developer of cable-free access control whose solution concentrates on power, intelligence and communication in one smart key – is now working with UK Power Networks to secure the latter’s electricity supply infrastructure.

LOCKEN equips more than 1,500 UK power distribution facilities with its digital access control system, enabling the power supply network to deliver maximum performance to its customers. The solution also improves Health and Safety procedures for the power group’s employees and subcontractors.

This solution allows UK Power Networks to move away from mechanical key-locking systems and make the transition to a solution built around smart keys and electronic cylinders.

The solution deployed by LOCKEN includes the company’s LPCB4 electronic high security padlocks (the most secure in the range). Only registered and accredited personnel are able to access work locations. Every lock opening or attempted opening can be tracked on the system for subsequent analysis.
