Emprise Services wins contract to secure London’s Camden Market for next three years

Emprise Services plc, a leading support services provider in the spheres of security and cleaning, has been awarded a contract to provide security guarding services for London’s Camden Market in a £3 million, three-year deal.

After proceeding through a competitive tendering process, Emprise was appointed as the preferred bidder from five other companies to provide security services, which include guarding, CCTV and key holding services for Market Tech, which encompasses Camden Lock, Stables Market and Union Street Market.

All services will be managed by Emprise’s National Support Centre, along with dedicated on-site and mobile response teams.

Mark Langworthy, Emprise’s managing director of security, informed Risk UK: “Emprise was awarded this contract after stiff competition in a rigorous tendering process as a result of our experience in the TUPE transfer of large in-house teams, our strong leadership credentials and commitment to innovation via emprise-iP.”

Axis Security selected to provide range of services for Lambert Smith Hampton

Axis Security, a leading deliverer of bespoke security services, has won a contract with commercial property consultant Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) to provide a range of security services for eight of its properties in the North East of England.

The contract incorporates security guarding, concierge services, mobile patrols and key holding – including night and weekend cover.

Marcus Cain, regional facilities manager for the North at LSH, informed Risk UK that the company previously used a number of different security providers, with the new contract forming part of a rationalisation process.

“Axis Security boasts a strong presence in the North East region,” observed Cain. “The company’s clients include the UK’s leading property management consultancies, which gives us confidence that the business can deliver the range of services we require across our own diverse portfolio of properties.”

Cain added that Axis’ reputation as a good employer is also important. “We have peace of mind that Axis Security looks after its employees and that all officers are licensed with the Security Industry Authority.”

Many LSH properties are multi-tenanted and require flexible, responsive value-add services (for example, providing meter readings of vacant properties). Axis Security completes this particular task using Fast Field technology, giving LSH instant and reliable information to check against utility bills.

“On one occasion,” outlined Cain, “we briefed Axis in the morning regarding a new instruction in the North East region. The mobile patrol service was fully-mobilised that same day, including a meter readings collection for the Estate.”

Other technology employed in the contract includes TrackTik, which provides officer location tracking and enables officers to capture live footage of incidents. Cain believes this is a must-have compliance solution. “Lone worker welfare is an important Health and Safety issue, but the technology also means we can prove to relevant stakeholders that patrols have actually been completed.”

In conclusion, Cain stated: “Overall, Axis is a good fit for our business. They are genuinely responsive and understand that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work.”

Ward Security attains best-ever SIA Approved Contractor Scheme audit score

Ward Security has just achieved its best ever score (170 out of 174) in an independent audit conducted on behalf of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) – the Regulator for the private security industry in the UK – for the Approved Contractor Score (ACS).

External assessing body Chamber Certification Assessment Service Ltd (CCAS) carried out a five-day combined annual assessment of Ward Security during February 2015 that included a reverification assessment for the ACS around Security Guarding, Door Supervision, CCTV and Key Holding as well as a surveillance audit for ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management Systems) and a renewal/full audit for BS 18001:2007 (Health & Safety).

Auditors visited nine customer sites in the West, London and Manchester regions and conducted interviews with over 50 Ward Security employees in addition to eight customers.

In his report, Keith Leyland (ACS assessor at CCAS) stated: “The company’s approach to improvement is excellent. The assessor reviewed very many examples in all areas of customer services, fleet management, compliance, finance, Human Resources and operations where the company has applied the Plan-Do-Check-Act principle to developing improvement.”

Speaking about this achievement, Nikhil Kamboj (compliance director at Ward Security) stated: “We’ve enjoyed a 25% growth since last year, but Ward Security has now surpassed all expectations in producing its best-ever ACS score which comfortably puts us in the Top 1%-2% of the SIA’s regulated suppliers.”

Areas of specialist expertise include the provision of search and selection guard dogs, wireless intruder detection systems and concierge services through the new Ward Belgravia division.

Security provision for the Royal visit to Folkestone

Recently, Ward Security supplied a team of 16 operatives for a visit by Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to Folkestone, where the Queen opened The Wing Visitor Centre at the National Memorial to the Few in Capel-le-Ferne, which is dedicated to pilots who engaged in the Battle of Britain.

“A Royal visit is always a particularly complex and sensitive operation,” explained David Ward. “This is made an even more complex security task when the visit includes more than one site and the party is on a tightly controlled deadline. It’s crucial that people have access to greet Her Majesty at each site, but security needs to be carefully and professionally managed in a way that’s not intrusive. Also, the Royal security team accompanying the party will need help in understanding the different sites and locations and potential threat angles, and this is further complicated if they have one eye on moving safely to the next locations. This complicates the logistics and planning, so additional security to that provided by the police and the security services has to be very efficient and effective in its operation in order to provide adequate support.”

Ward continued: “With a regional office in Kent, Ward Security has the local knowledge to make the process easier for this particular visit. Crucially, we have the experience of working with the police and the security services, which makes liaison, planning and delivery far easier. As a company, we also have vast experience in providing security for a range of scenarios and operations, and our members of staff are highly experienced in delivering effective and sensitive security.”

In conclusion, Ward told Risk UK: “It has been a great honour to provide additional security for Her Majesty’s visit, and we’re extremely proud to have provided our services for this important and historic visit.”

After opening The Wing Visitor Centre, Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal party proceeded to Canterbury Cathedral where the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh unveiled statues to mark the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee.

Charter Security dog patrols help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in London’s Tower Hamlets

Residents in Tower Hamlets have praised a project that has helped to reduce crime in their neighbourhood. The ‘Dealer a Day’ programme sees Charter Security working with Tower Hamlets enforcement officers and Partnership Task Force (PTF) police officers to combat drug dealing and anti-social behaviour in an initiative led by the local authority.

In response to residents’ concerns, sniffer dogs and general patrol dogs are being used to detect a variety of items, including potential weapons and drugs. The pilot initiative began at the end of 2013, and was so successful it has been extended into an ongoing project.

That project has already achieved extremely positive results, disrupting numerous drug deals and detecting and seizing several quantities of cannabis. Indeed, recent raids have led to the seizure of heroin, cocaine and cannabis with a street value of over £6,000.

Regular patrols combat the problem at source, helping to disrupt and prevent drug deals taking place. The dog patrols target high risk areas during what would be considered ‘peak’ drug trading/anti-social behaviour hours.

Six tower blocks formed the pilot area, which has now been extended to cover 15. Stairwells of Tower Hamlets Homes managed properties are regularly visited and patrolled, and dogs are also used in open areas such as greens.

Bringing drug dealers to justice

Trevor Kennett, head of enforcement services at Tower Hamlets, explained: “I know that residents want the council, police and our partners to work together to stamp out drug dealing and bring drug dealers to justice. These latest patrols with Charter Security’s dog handling services are part of our continuing efforts to do just that.”
