AMG’s media converters and Ethernet switches offer end users 90 W PoE+

Allowing devices to be deployed in locations without local power, AMG has launched a range of 90 W media converters and Ethernet switches. They’re ideal for any networking application where a device can be energised by Power over Ethernet (PoE), such as within IP CCTV, access control, lighting and industrial networks for general security and ITS/urban traffic management applications. The move means that AMG is supporting easier and quicker installations allied with lower maintenance costs.

Delivering 4 x 90 W 802.3bt PoE ports per eight-port switch, AMG’s new Managed PLUS industrial hardened switch and 90 W PoE+ compact single port media converter provide excellent application and site flexibility.

Enabling new deployment options in next generation enterprise workspace environments, the AMG 90 W solutions save on space as well, providing PoE+ and Ethernet connectivity in the same box.

For end users, the new AMG solutions also reduce equipment and costs when compared to the deployment of traditional PoE injectors.

With 90 W PoE+ on each Ethernet port and housed in a compact chassis, the new AMG DIN rail mountable devices are the ideal choice for connecting and powering network devices (such as IP CCTV cameras and industrial controllers) over long distances using all types of fibre.

“As part of AMG’s expansion plans, we’re undergoing a significant product development drive,” explained Tom Exley, AMG’s director. “It’s great to be able to offer something different in the Ethernet space. Customers we’ve approached so far have been very excited about our 90 W PoE+ solutions. We have more exciting product developments in the pipeline for the New Year.”

Team TDSi ‘Wears It Red’ to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation

The dedicated team at integrated security solutions development specialist TDSi recently supported the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Wear It… Beat It’ fundraising day by wearing red and enjoying a fine selection of red food.

Embracing the spirit of the event, the TDSi team members each came to work wearing a red item of clothing (donating £1 each to the charity in order to do so) and enjoyed a delicious selection of red-coloured foods including home-baked cakes, sweets, jellies, fruit and fruit-flavoured drinks along with an array of suitably coloured delicatessen meats.

The event has a serious side, though, in terms of raising awareness around serious health issues. Indeed, the British Heart Foundation charity estimates that one-in-four individuals will suffer from heart and/or circulatory disease at some point in their lifetime.

Sarah Phillips, TDSi’s product and marketing manager, commented: “As a company we’re very socially aware and believe in supporting good causes. As a team we raised an impressive £70 for the British Heart Foundation. These funds will go towards life-saving research and combating life-threatening diseases. We also had a great time, sharing in the fun of a good-natured fundraising event with the whole team taking part to support what is a very worthy cause.”

The event follows a charity Bake Off challenge held at the company’s Poole offices last November in aid of the Boo charity. Members of the TDSi team competed to produce the best sweet treats as judged by a panel of staff members.

Established in 1982, TDSi has been at the forefront of the access control and integrated security management market for over 30 years. The company’s diverse and comprehensive product range encompasses access control systems, biometric readers (fingerprint and facial), security management software, IP CCTV cameras and storage media and Video Management Software.

Its portfolio of solutions can be easily integrated with other security and BMS applications and may be deployed at businesses and organisations of all sizes and types.

With customers all around the world, millions of people rely on TDSi cards every day to gain secure, reliable access to installations. ISO 9001 accredited, TDSi’s access control systems range from standalone products to networked and integrated systems for all sectors.

The company serves end user customers across a wide range of sectors, among them healthcare, finance/banking, education, transportation (including ports and airports) and the utilities as well as industrial and commercial/retail sites.

Clients include Bristol International Airport, the University of the West of England, Guildhall School, Natwest Bank, Bentley Motors, Vodafone, Université de Caen, CHU de TOURS, Ecole Centrale de Nantes and Arcelor Mital.

icomply partners with TIS in security upgrade project for Boots UK

icomply has recently partnered with TIS – one of the UK’s leading independent fire, security and communications specialists – in a project designed to overhaul the security systems operated by Boots UK.

The Security Control Room at Boots UK required an update, with many of the current analogue hardware deemed unfit for purpose and data gathering sometimes proving to be a difficult process.

The proposed solution consisted of upgrading 22 CRT monitors within the Control Room to just 8 LCD flat screens which would serve as a versatile and responsive display area for the network of cameras. Not only would this free up space in the Control Room, in turn making organisation and data collection a whole lot easier, but it also meant that more areas could be surveyed at any given time while the detail captured would be clearer and easier to record.

From icomply’s perspective, there was much work to do in what was a relatively short space of time. Centralised server software had to be installed in order to enable connectivity between the IP CCTV, IDS, intercom and access control systems while the central operator control system demanded involvement from a more general perspective.

As stated, one of the biggest challenges was integrating the platform with varying equipment and different manufacturers’ devices. These included the Synectics matrix integration, PC232 integration and HIK and NVR integration.

Completely overhauled security regime

The end result is a completely overhauled system. The single front-end graphical user interface can be used effectively not only to gather and record data but also to review that information.

What Boots now has in its UK Control Room is a GUI with easier navigation and mapping which also unifies all technology in one intuitive space, in turn saving on desk space and making sure that Boots is absolutely ready for the next generation of security technology when it emerges without having to compromise in the short term.

Speaking about the project, Nick Hollins of TIS told Risk UK: “Boots UK is one of my key accounts, and when TIS was asked to look at upgrading the CCTV Control Room it was imperative that the solution I proposed was not only fit for purpose but also offered a significant improvement on the existing CCTV system. Of course, we also had to be mindful of the budget.”

Hollins added: “The assistance received from icomply all the way through this project was exceptional. Business development director Michael Gallagher was always was on hand to offer a technical solution and provide a quotation that was within budget and both the installation and post-installation support was of the very highest standards. This project was delivered on time, within budget and met our end user customers’ high standards and expectations. This was down to the teamwork and professionalism of both TIS and icomply.”
