HID Global launches cloud platform to help create “worldwide innovation ecosystem” for connected workplaces

Trusted identity solutions specialist HID Global has announced the availability of its HID Origo cloud platform that “opens a brand new world of opportunities” for partners to create more seamless and intuitive workplace experiences built on HID’s proven access control infrastructure.

The platform combines HID’s technologies for mobile IDs (and location services in the future) with the company’s expansive access control architecture to bring together physical security and a wide range of building applications, services and Internet of Things (IoT) use cases via a unified cloud experience.

“HID Origo lays the foundation for a broad ecosystem of cloud-based access control technologies, products, services and business models that will accelerate workplace innovation,” said Hilding Arrehed, vice-president of cloud services within the Physical Access Control division at HID Global. “This solution dramatically increases our partners’ capabilities to create more connected and seamless building experiences for end users. The platform removes integration barriers between access control systems and smart building applications. We’ll continue to expand its value with capabilities that further improve how people securely move through a facility and interact with its services.”

The new platform provides an app-based innovation model that delivers a comprehensive suite of integration, enablement, developer tools and services geared towards simplifying how partners and a growing community of new developers and resellers bring access control solutions to market. Rather than requiring that entire solutions be developed and enabled one customer or site at a time, HID Origo makes it possible to develop new applications and integrated solutions for HID’s complete installed base of millions of access control devices and systems all at once.

How HID Origo works

The HID Origo platform embeds cloud connections and IoT functionality as app extensions into mobile devices, HID readers and controllers, and gives developers direct access to this hardware via HID Origo application programming interfaces and software developer kits already proven through HID’s mobile access solution.

The platform also enables data analytics to be used for new capabilities, including remote reader configuration, predictive access control system maintenance and intent detection for more seamless and personalised workplace experiences.

Enabling new business models

Today, the platform enables subscription-based services, with customers already taking advantage of the model’s simplicity. Examples include a deployment by a world-leading biotechnology company who has been an early adopter of HID Origo subscription services for ordering and managing mobile ID replenishment over the air when employees lose or must replace their smart phones.

The company has replaced its traditional access control readers with 2,300 Bluetooth-enabled iCLASS SE readers to support its mixed environment of 12,000 mobile IDs and 40,000 Seos ID cards.

The subscription billing model offered through HID Origo makes it easier for the company to order and manage mobile IDs while improving forecasting, budgeting and reporting. It also actively streamlines transferring mobile ID subscription licenses across employees and registering multiple mobile IDs across multiple devices without any additional cost.

IFSEC organiser UBM previews ‘The Future of Security’ Seminar Theatre powered by Tavcom Training

In partnership with Tavcom Training, the provider of accredited security systems training courses, IFSEC International organiser UBM has unveiled some of the detail behind ‘The Future of Security’ Seminar Theatre. Sponsored by Panasonic UK, this will deliver a range of essential CPD-accredited presentations on the very latest in security technology design and integration when IFSEC 2018 runs at London’s ExCeL from 19-21 June.

Physical security systems are now heavily dependent on IT-based platforms. This intersection of technologies has opened up significant potential for security installers and engineers to offer even better solutions for their end customers. To reflect this demand, ‘The Future of Security’ Theatre will focus on these opportunities in offering a full set of free seminars. The sessions will expertly target key areas addressing cyber security, IT Best Practice, practical IP networking, integration and system design plus a wide range of additional core areas. All sessions will be delivered by specialist Tavcom trainers.

Delivering insight into the major security challenges, the cyber security sections will look into how robust approaches can strengthen an existing physical security system, providing the end user with even greater resilience to cyber threats.

From an IT security aspect, the sessions will include sessions on understanding firewalls and identifying vulnerabilities which can be inherent in the installation process. In addition, there will be exclusive sessions on the use of drones in security and how this technology is both a benefit and a hazard.

IFSECInternational2018ShowMeHow

‘The Future of Security’ Theatre will be a major element in the new ‘Show Me How’ project at IFSEC International 2018, which will identify education opportunities and exhibiting companies as key destinations where visitors can go to learn about Best Practice and capabilities. Exhibitors will host technical experts on their stands to ensure visitors gain a direct understanding of the products and solutions and making sure they leave fully equipped with the right knowledge.

At the event, all ‘Show Me How’ areas and exhibitors will be clearly signposted to help visitors make the best possible use of their time at IFSEC 2018.

With cyber crime being an ever-present threat exploiting business weaknesses around storing data in multiple locations, Panasonic UK is proactively taking action to thwart such threats by expanding its cyber offerings. In particular at IFSEC International 2018, the business will focus on how integrators and installers can bring additional value to end users by providing ‘cyber safe’ environments.

Paul Tennent, sales director at Tavcom Training, stated: “As a leading training provider for the security and fire installer sectors, Tavcom is excited to be part of the new position IFSEC is taking as a major education provider. Its been interesting to see the insights and research IFSEC has gained over the past year, particularly so in regard to the expectations and direct needs of the installer community. It’s also acutely apparent that growth areas and technologies in and around cyber security are becoming critical, so we’re happy to lend our expertise to the wider IFSEC audience.”

Gerry Dunphy, brand director for IFSEC International, responded: “We’ve been through an extensive research programme over the past 12 months which has provided IFSEC with a clear set of directions, matching the direct needs of our customers. They’ve told us they have a need to understand the future. They need guidance on areas such as how cyber security impacts on physical systems and they need to hear from specialists they can trust. Working with Tavcom Training on ‘The Future of Security’ Theatre is the perfect solution given Tavcom’s history and expertise in these core areas. Our customers have told us what’s keeping them awake at night and it’s IFSEC’s duty to help them rest more comfortably.”

*IFSEC International 2018 is co-located with FIREX International, Safety & Health Expo and The Facilities Show, offering a strategic blend of related business to business events focusing squarely on the protection and management of people, property and assets

ONVIF releases Profile A for broader access control configuration

ONVIF, the global standardisation initiative for IP-based physical security products, has announced the final release of Profile A for broader access control configuration that establishes a standardised interface for access control clients and expands the configuration options of ONVIF-conformant access control systems.

The release marks the first open specification that allows for the mixing and matching of access control devices and clients within a system, in turn facilitating interoperability for multi-vendor projects.

ONVIF Profile A encompasses daily access control functions for granting and revoking employee credentials, creating and updating schedules and making changes to access control privileges within the system. Profile A deepens interoperability within the access control market by increasing functionality and system management functions at the client level, enabling the configuration of credentialing, scheduling and access privileges through the Profile A-conformant client interface.

“Profile A is a significant development for the market because it provides a pathway for integrating access control panels and hardware with management software from different manufacturers,” said Per Björkdahl, ONVIF’s Steering Committee chairman. “This pathway for integration also provides future-proofing of an access control system as it allows another manufacturer’s access control management software to be installed in the future, eliminating the need for a hardware ‘rip and replace’ scenario.”

The interoperability established by Profile A allows end users and system integrators alike to make hardware and software choices based on functionality and performance, and will also bridge the gap between legacy hardware and new software if both are Profile A-conformant. The new Profile further enables integration between access control and IP video management systems when combined with ONVIF Profile C for basic access control and Profile S for video streaming.

Profile A has been available in release candidate status in order to provide industry review and feedback prior to the final release. ONVIF circulates a new profile first as a ‘Release Candidate’ for at least six months, allowing members and stakeholders a final implementation review. When that process is complete, the final profile is published and members can then test their products for conformance to the final version of an ONVIF Profile. This process is intended to allow members to more quickly introduce conformant products when the final version of a Profile is released.

Founded in 2008, ONVIF is a well-recognised industry forum driving interoperability for IP-based physical security products. The organisation has a global member base of established camera, video management system and access control companies and nearly 8,000 Profile-conformant products.

Backed by Profile S for streaming video, Profile G for recording and storage, Profile C for physical access control, Profile Q for improved out-of-the-box functionality and the new Profile T Release Candidate for advanced streaming, ONVIF continues to work with its members to expand the number of IP interoperability solutions ONVIF-conformant products can provide.

*Further information about ONVIF-conformant products, including details of vendors and the conformant models, is available on the ONVIF website: www.onvif.org

Pelco by Schneider Electric announces integration of VideoXpert with iView Systems’ iTrak

Pelco by Schneider Electric has announced that its VideoXpert video management system is now integrated with iTrak, the latest incident management solution to be developed by iView Systems.

“The iTrak plugin continues our efforts to work with other leaders in the industry on providing Pelco customers with seamless access to ready-made security solutions such that they can better understand and protect their organisations,” said Jonathan Lewit, director of business applications at Pelco by Schneider Electric.

Ideal for multi-site, multi-departmental solutions, iTrak provides end users with a centralised platform for incident and risk management. Its intuitive system design makes it easy to access comprehensive reporting, profiling, interview management, risk analysis and subject profiling information.

With the integration to VideoXpert, end users will not only be able to see all related incident data via a single report, but they can also now link these incidents with supporting video.

The Incident File feature captures critical incident data including location, sub-location, date and time as well as a short description of the incident in question. The added ability to include supporting attachments in the form of a narrative or media file to the incident subsequently allows for quick information retrieval.

Narrative files provide flexibility to include free-form text. This can be critical in instances of collecting witness accounts or documenting incident notes, while the media file attachments enable end users to include pictures or PDF files for more thorough event investigations.

“Ease-of-use and the integration of video with critical business data are cornerstones of the VideoXpert platform,” added Lewit. “The integration with iView really is a prime example of our long-term commitment to providing end users with extensible functionality through partner integration.”

Martin Drew, president and CEO at iView Systems, explained: “The seamless integration of iView Systems iTrak with the Pelco VideoXpert Ops Centre provides an instant and efficient method of converging incident-related information with its associated video data. This is hugely important. Users will also be able to leverage the tagging capability to identify video from cameras associated with iTrak’s incident location classifications. We believe the overall integration will provide significant improvements in overall operational efficiency and accuracy of reporting.”
