Kentec helps to keep Brenntag UK & Ireland’s Sunderland facility safe with Taktis installation

A highly sophisticated Taktis fire alarm and control panel from Kentec, the life safety control systems manufacturer, is providing the highest levels of fire safety at Brenntag UK & Ireland’s facility in Sunderland.

Brenntag is a market leader in chemical distribution with a global network of more than 580 locations across 73 countries. Its North East team moved into the new site in Sunderland, one of the company’s 24 sites across the UK & Ireland, last December.

Pitts Wilson, the electrical contractor, was approached by Brenntag to recommend and install a comprehensive fire safety and alarm system for the entire site. The business selected Kentec’s technology as an integral part of the installation, which has helped Pitts Wilson pass a BAFE/NSI inspection.

Kentec’s Taktis panel ranges from two to 16 detection loops to provide up to 144 zone indicators and can network up to 128 panels. Its enhanced integration and networking capabilities mean it’s able to meet the current and future needs of even the largest sites.

Mark Ellse, fire systems manager at Pitts Wilson, stated: “The flexibility of the Taktis panel makes it very simple to install and commission, and because it’s fully open-protocol it’s also fully-integrated with the Hochiki systems on site. The full colour 7” touch-screen display is easy for the customer to use and understand, especially during an emergency. Along with providing a great system, Kentec also provided excellent customer support throughout the project.”

Kevin Swann, managing director at Kentec, responded: “The scalability of Taktis means it provides a future-proofed solution. It’s able to expand and develop in line with Brenntag’s requirements. As it’s also truly open protocol, it provides installers and their end users with maximum choice when it comes to their system design.”

Kentec in great shape with The Gym Group in wake of fire alarm control panel installation project

A major expansion by one of the UK’s leading gym operators has seen new fire safety systems using Kentec fire alarm control panels installed within fitness centre premises across the country in order to protect both users and staff.

The Gym Group boasts in excess of 500,000 members just six years after the business first opened its doors. Members pay monthly fees with no contract commitments. The Gym Group plans to have opened 80, 24-hour gyms across the UK by the end of this year.

The fire safety systems at 21 of The Gym Group’s latest locations have been engineered and installed by independent system specialist Southern Fire Alarms using Kentec Syncro AS fire control panels and the Hochiki open communications protocol.

Customer requirements for 24-hour member access means that gyms are not always staffed so consideration had to be given to the positioning and accessibility of the fire control panels.

Kentec’s tamper-resistant windows were chosen to protect the fire alarm panels from unauthorised access to their controls while allowing access to the LED display and Zonal indicators.

To allow for the needs of all gym members, staff and visitors, some of whom may be hard of hearing or users of MP3 personal music devices, fire alarm indicators were designed into each system to provide visual naming of alarm activation.

Kentec’s flagship ‘open protocol’ Syncro Series is recognised as one of the most powerful systems of its type on the market today, guaranteeing the very highest standards of performance, safety and reliability that such busy venues demand.
