GJD appoints ezCCTV.com as national distribution partner

GJD, the designer and manufacturer of external detection and LED illumination equipment, has announced the appointment of ezCCTV.com as its new national distribution partner. Based in Hertfordshire and an authorised official Hikvision distributor, ezCCTV.com supplies digital and IP surveillance solutions.

Models in GJD’s D-TECT range of detectors reliably detect people and easily integrate with third party VMS providers and CCTV systems. The product range performs well in all weather conditions without fail or false alarm.

Commenting on the new partnership, Greg Stuttle (GJD’s business development manager) observed: “GJD is confident that our product range will be popular with ezCCTV.com’s customers. GJD is wholly committed to delivering a responsive and reliable service. ezCCTV also takes this approach, so we believe the company will be a great partner. We’re looking forward to a long and successful working relationship.”

Camera analytics has driven demand for reliable human detection. For their part, GJD’s products have been capturing genuine alarms for over 30 years, providing both end users and installers alike with peace of mind that critical events will never be missed and that false alarms will not occur.

Joss Cohen, sales director at ezCCTV.com, told Risk Xtra: “We’ve partnered with GJD as the company’s products incorporate functions not found on any other similar products. GJD’s IP technology also integrates with Hikvision. This is a perfect fit for our customers and aligns very well with our strategy.”

The D-TECT motion detector range is designed for intruder monitoring, CCTV surveillance and other alarm warning requirements. The detectors provide both volumetric and long-range narrow field of view sensing plus remote programming.

D-TECT IP detectors integrate with Hikvision’s I Series and K2 Series NVRs, which are said to deliver “remarkable advantages” for end users including quick and efficient installation, minimum maintenance and remote access. Installers can change detector settings via a secure web-based interface.

Other products in the GJD range include Clarius PLUS LED illuminators. These produce powerful and even illumination, in turn assisting reliable detection and deterrence. Clarius IP provides smart lighting solutions, which can be integrated with IP cameras and CCTV systems. Every Clarius light includes a lens diffuser pack so the beam spread can be easily adjusted on site.

ONVIF reflects on 2018 activities at 10th Annual General Meeting

ONVIF, the global standardisation initiative for IP-based physical security products, held its Annual General Meeting earlier this month, with an overview of important activities in 2018 and perspectives on the year ahead the order of the day. Attendees heard presentations on the final release of Profile T, an advancement which represents how ONVIF is keeping pace with technological advancements that affect product development and interoperability between IP-based physical security products.

In an acknowledgement of the organisation’s 10th Anniversary, ONVIF chairman Per Björkdahl highlighted the forum’s achievements over the past decade, including an overview of the six ONVIF Profiles, with a clear emphasis on the newly-released Profile T for advanced video streaming.

Collectively, the ONVIF Profiles provide support for more than 10,000 conformant products that are increasingly included in various bid and specification processes in projects around the world. Björkdahl also cited the continued involvement of ONVIF as part of the work of the International Electrotechnical Commission’s TC79 for international standardisation.

ONVIF also recognised the contributions of four individuals from various ONVIF Technical Committees for their work on different profiles and committees. Fredrik Svensson of Axis Communications and Dora Han of Hikvision were recipients of the ONVIF Award acknowledging individuals and companies who have made significant contributions to the organisation. As chairman of the Profile T Working Group, Svensson was a leading force in the development and successful final release of the Profile T specification. Han received anaward for her extensions to the specification, and also for supporting the development of other members’ extensions to the specification.

Distinguished Service Awards

One of two 2018 ONVIF Distinguished Service Awards was bestowed upon Baldvin Gislason Bern of Axis Communications for his role in developing and proofing the evolution concept as chair of the Technical Services Device Test Tool Evolution. Joining him in receiving this award was Dr Hasan Timucin Ozdemir of Panasonic, who served as chairman of the ONVIF Video Enhancement Working Group from 2009-2018. This Working Group is directly responsible for formulating and prototyping new features for the ONVIF specification.

“All of our award recipients have shown their significant and long-term commitment to the organisation as a whole, and in turn have directly and positively impacted the work of ONVIF,” enthused Björkdahl. “The success of our organisation would not be possible without the innovative contributions and hard work of our members. For that, we say Thank You.”

ONVIF Technical Committee chair Hans Busch of Bosch spoke to members about the specification development roadmap and its alignment to the standardisation activities within the IEC TC 79 Working Groups for video surveillance and physical access control standards. Technical Services Committee chair Andreas Schneider of Sony gave an overview of the Committee’s work on new and existing profiles, client and device test tools, updates to the conformance process and tools and Developers’ Plugfests.

ONVIF Communications Committee chair Tim Shen of Dahua provided a recap of ONVIF communication efforts in 2018. There has been a continued focus on market education about the specific Profiles through presence at industry events coupled with much media activity. Shen also reported on the success of the first-ever ONVIF Open Source Spotlight Challenge that took place earlier this year.

Hikvision awarded Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation by National Cyber Security Centre

Hikvision has been awarded Cyber Essentials Plus status – the highest accreditation in the programme. Operated by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the Cyber Essentials scheme is an independently assessed accreditation supported by the Government. The scheme is designed to carry out rigorous testing of Internet-enabled products connected to a given company’s infrastructure – in this case that of Hikvision – in order to ensure that, when connected to a network, those products are safe, secure and don’t provide a risk to devices on the rest of the network.

In partnership with five independent test houses, the Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation process covers a number of different areas to ensure users of Internet-enabled devices are assured of the highest level of protection against potential cyber threats and attacks. These independent test houses assess products through internal testing and vulnerability scanning. Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation is only awarded when testers are fully satisfied that the tested products don’t pose a risk to the wider network.

“Cyber security is really hot topic in the security industry so naturally we’re delighted to have been awarded Cyber Essentials Plus status,” explained Gary Harmer, sales director for Hikvision UK and Ireland. “As the only manufacturer in our industry to have received this level of accreditation, it’s confirmation of the confidence we at Hikvision have in our own operations.”

Hikvision will continue to work with the NCSC and other authorised bodies to maintain, develop and enhance the security of its products, operating environments and processes.

*An earlier version of the Press Release suggested that the Cyber Essentials Plus status relates to products and has caused some confusion. To clarify, Hikvision has been awarded Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation, which relates directly to the security and robustness of its own infrastructure within the company’s UK operation. It was never Hikvision’s intention to mislead the reader with any inference that the accreditation related in any way to the company’s own products. Hikvision sincerely apologises for the unclear statement about the award
