Notting Hill Genesis surveillance upgrade project witnesses Cloudview and Amthal Fire & Security working in tandem

Amthal Fire & Security has been working closely with secure cloud CCTV specialist Cloudview in order to upgrade legacy network surveillance systems and realise smart cloud-based and, importantly, compliant solutions for the benefit of staff and residents involved with Notting Hill Genesis.

Notting Hill Genesis is one of the largest housing associations in London and the South East, with its head office at Kings Cross and five further site locations requiring high quality protection for more than 1,500 office-based members of staff.

Amthal Fire & Security has been working closely with Cloudview to take responsibility for security maintenance across the office portfolio, alongside ensuring the safety and security of residents housed in both new and existing dwellings.

To ensure efficiency savings, compliance and smart capability when it comes to CCTV, Notting Hill Genesis’ visual data partner Cloudview has supplied its specialist systems for Amthal Fire & Security engineers to install across the office and development network.  The new system removes the need for DVRs and allows authorised personnel instant and secure remote access for the management of evidential footage stored as required in case of a threat or an emergency scenario.

Compliance with the GDPR

Suki Kahlon, office services manager for central services at Notting Hill Genesis, informed Security Matters: “The need to update CCTV systems for ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was of paramount importance, both for the Notting Hill Genesis team and also for our residents and their safety. Partnering with Cloudview and, later on, Amthal Fire & Security has been of great benefit. They understand our working environment.”

Kahlon continued: “Both companies operated in such a way as to enable a scalable upgrade programme of works across our office base and various housing developments. Essentially, our ambition is that wherever we have CCTV systems in place, we want to upgrade to the cloud and bring our networks together in a centrally managed visual data infrastructure. The Cloudview solution has been well received by building managers and authorised personnel.”

To date, Amthal Fire & Security’s installation and maintenance teams have completed install works at the head office in Kings Cross and at the West London office in Hammersmith, in addition to new housing development connections.

Visual data

The new surveillance technology is created to offer alerts when instant action is required and based on what’s identified as a threat. Visual data can be accessed anywhere at any time and on any device. It can also be shared immediately and saved for up to 12 months if required, with 30-day delete options as standard in order to comply with the GDPR.

Crucially, the data is only accessible to authorised personnel, all of whom have audit control capability for full compliance.

Stephen Bates, CEO at Cloudview, observed: “Notting Hill Genesis is committed to providing safe and secure communities in which residents can thrive. Equally, the client is very clear on its responsibilities to its team members who are at the heart of these communities. The need for smart surveillance technology that can be centrally managed is integral. We were delighted to offer a solution that could bring these requirements together. With the help of Amthal Fire & Security, we have enabled a seamless installation process between all Notting Hill Genesis’ offices and housing developments.”

NHGCloudview

Phil Bryant, manager of the strategic accounts team at Amthal Fire & Security, added: “At the heart of social enterprise is the overriding need to create homes and communities in which residents want to live, with management taken care of by the dedicated local teams employed by Notting Hill Genesis. The organisation now has smart systems in place to ensure ongoing safety and security.”

Bryant continued: “The Cloudview system installed by Amthal Fire & Security, with both of us operating in constant collaboration, has proven to offer best value and significant efficiency savings that can be maintained to ensure ongoing compliance and simple maintenance plans. It also allows Notting Hill Genesis staff to have a much more reactive and instant approach to any threat identified, thereby affording total peace of mind.”

Vista covers every angle with latest IP and analogue camera launches

Vista has just announced the newest additions to its VK2 and HDA ranges. The camera launches are supported by the introduction of the new ‘universal’ brackets which greatly simplify installation and were developed in line with ‘Voice of Customer’ feedback.

The collective aim of the cameras and brackets is to reduce installation time on site, (and therefore minimise cost). The use of the latest technology within the cameras and the intelligent product design means that “excellent quality images” can be produced and adjustments easily be made to meet future end user requirements.

The VK2 range has been developed with the customer very much in mind. The cameras are designed to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements along with minimising the time required on site for installing and adjusting the cameras.

Their ability to stream highly efficient H.265 video format, combined with Vista’s advanced Hi-Stream bandwidth reducing function, means that storage and bandwidth requirements can be up to 75% lower than that of an equivalent H.264 stream.

VistaVK2L

The VK2 cameras are available in both 2 MP and 4 MP formats and produce “crisper images” compared to those achieved by general IP cameras. This is as a result of a user-definable minimum/maximum shutter speed, true Wide Dynamic Range and IR illumination.

The VK2L range has been designed for those end users who require high quality video images delivered at a cost-effective price. These cameras reduce bandwidth and storage requirements like their VK2 siblings and, due to a wide angle lens, minimise the number of cameras required on site.

The key benefits shared by the VK2 and VK2L camera ranges are as follows:

Compatible with all modern NVRs and VMS H.265/H.264 compression formats make for a flexible system

Reduced required levels of bandwidth and storage Significantly reduced when used in H.265 mode and as a result of Hi-Stream Region of Interest which adds greater compression to areas with no motion

Ensure a much crisper frozen image User-definable minimum/maximum shutter speed provides much clearer images than general IP cameras

The launch also includes an analogue offer. The newly-released HDA cameras are capable of providing Full-HD 1080p resolution in TVI HDA format over coax cabling and provide a very flexible solution. A wide range of features make them suitable for many internal and external applications as well as providing excellent quality images without the requirement of an IP knowledge base.

The HDA range makes for the perfect transition from analogue to IP and can be used in conjunction with existing analogue infrastructure.

All of the IP and analogue cameras included in the launch are perfect for use with the Vista Viper range of NVRs and DVRs. ONVIF compliance ensures that they can also be used on multiple manufacturers’ recording platforms if existing systems are in place.

Alongside the cameras, the introduction of a new selection of ‘universal’ brackets simplifies installation and the process of selecting the correct bracket.

Vista adds new end user-focused features and functions to Viper family

Vista has added new features and functions to the Viper range of NVRs, DVRs and associated matrix controllers. The Viper family was launched back in July last year and Vista is continually working on developing the range in line with customer requirements and feedback to ensure that “the perfect solution” can be offered.

Although the range is under continuous development, the overall purpose of the Viper family is to provide a multi-format recording platform, allowing end users to pull together Viper HD analogue DVRs and Viper IP NVRs into a single, seamless system.

The Viper virtual matrix controller affords end users complete control of the system through the uniform and intuitive central management software. The flexible range gives end users the opportunity to upgrade their systems at their own pace, with Vista providing high quality service throughout the process.

VistaViper

The latest addition to the range is Viper Remote, the App that allows operators to be in constant contact with their security system. The App provides alarm notifications straight to the user’s device, affords the ability to view live and recorded images remotely, offers various display options and also an intuitive navigation system.

Wide-ranging search options ensure that time is saved when reviewing footage and that important security events can be found with ease. The App also allows for the management of devices in the system providing the opportunity to add and remove devices whenever necessary from any remote location.

Vista has also been working to enhance the functionality of the H5 range of NVRs. The latest development is the de-warping function that allows 360 degree camera images to be seen in a more user-friendly, 180 degree view. This helps to improve the end user experience by making reviewing images as simple as possible.

In response to ‘Voice of Customer’ feedback and suggestions, Vista has been working on making the range compatible with Immix. This is another hugely beneficial function which is on its way.

Bob Forehand, Vista’s technical manager, explained to Risk UK: “The Viper family is an incredibly flexible range that allows end users to ‘mix-and-match’ Viper units, combining both IP and analogue systems. The flexibility of the range means that the solution can be developed over time, saving on upfront costs and accounting for the requirements of growing or developing systems. The addition of Viper Remote, Viper Central and the upcoming introduction of Immix make the already differentiated and comprehensive offering even more inviting.”

End users urged to “energise” CCTV solutions with Xeno’s new Nitro range

Xeno has announced that it can now offer customers full HD resolution over standard RG59 coax at ranges of 300 metres thanks to the company’s new Nitro range of cameras and DVRs.

The range brings “superb” 1080P image quality to the end user at an “extremely cost-effective” price point. Available options include eyeball, bullet and vandal-resistant dome cameras, as well as 4, 8 and 16-channel DVRs.

In order to allow integrators a seamless transition to the Nitro range, the DVRs operate in exactly the same way as the XDR960 range with no additional training required.

The same Central Management Software can be used to connect to these and also the range of Xeno IP NVRS. The Nitro range affords integrators “the perfect opportunity” to upgrade their existing analogue customers to Full HD resolution.

Xeno product manager Bob Forehand told Risk UK: “Nitro allows integrators to offer their customers the advantages of Full HD resolution, but without the complexity of IP networking. In addition, they can use any existing coax cabling. thereby keeping costs to a minimum and simplifying the overall upgrade process.”

Forehand went on to comment: “As these cameras are dual format AHD and 960H, integrators only need to stock one type of camera to be able to service both old and new installations. This is an extremely exciting development in the analogue world and offers end users a cost-effective upgrade path to Full HD.”
