Abloy wins Gaia Award for Sustainable Building Products

Security expert Abloy has received the Gaia Award for Sustainable Building Products at Big 5 in Dubai, winning the accolade for its range of low energy locks.

The Big 5 in Dubai is the largest construction event in the Middle East, connecting thousands of global suppliers and buyers of construction products. For their part, the Gaia Awards honour construction equipment and products that have truly integrated the concept of moving towards a more sustainable built environment.

Abloy’s low energy locks were showcased at the ASSA Abloy stand. Visitors voting at the exhibition chose them for the Gaia Award 2016 for Sustainable Building Products.

The locks blend high security with eco-friendliness. They boast an ultra-low current consumption due to energy only being used when the lock status is changed. In addition to the energy and cost reductions involved, the locks have a very wide voltage range and a number of usage possibilities.

Aaron Yule, managing director of Abloy UK, added: “It’s fantastic to see Abloy products gaining international acclaim, and in an arena where sustainability is paramount. By selecting our low energy locks, specifiers can ensure they’re choosing a system that not only allows for swift and easy access and egress alongside an enhanced security provision, but also reduces the energy consumption and carbon footprint of a building.”

TDSi set to showcase latest web-based security solutions at Intersec 2017

Integrated security solutions developer TDSi is gearing up for its forthcoming appearance at Intersec 2017 (running from 2224 January in Dubai), which will feature the introduction of the company’s new GARDiS web-based range of software and hardware solutions to the Middle East market on Stand S1-A09.

John Davies, managing director of TDSi, commented: “Intersec always provides an exciting start to the security calendar every year. The event affords visitors and exhibitors a first glimpse of what will be entering the market for the new year. Dubai is the perfect host location, boasting a vibrant and interesting venue which draws crowds from across the Middle East and beyond.”

The TDSi team at Intersec 2017 will include international business development manager Mica Negrilic and senior technical sales engineer Kevan Fry.

Negrilic told Risk UK: “The Middle East is a key export market for TDSi and has seen significant growth for us in recent years. Intersec offers our team the opportunity to talk directly to the people who buy and sell the products across the region and beyond. This gives us a much better and deeper understanding of the demands and needs from this important security market.”

The TDSi Stand will feature its product portfolio as well as GARDiS, the company’s forthcoming web-based application that offers even greater flexibility and suitability to modern applications. One software install is all that’s required to provide complete access control security for a given business’ needs.

TDSi’s GARDiS offers all the benefits of a highly secure web-based application. It’s easily adaptable for an increased workload, provides easier maintenance and installation, is more secure and also accessible from anywhere on any device. GARDiS features a simple-to-use and intuitive interface that’s designed and built directly around the needs of users and operators.

GARDiS has also been designed to meet and anticipate important international security standards. These include ONVIF Profiles A and C, which were recently adopted by the International Electrotechnical Commission as the de facto new international standard for access control. This ushers in the era of open platforms for access control.

Negrilic concluded: “At Intersec 2016, we recorded a 30% increase in the number of visitors to our stand. It’s trend which continued across our appearances at a number of events worldwide throughout the year, so we’re very keen to engage with our current and potential partners and customers again. If any Risk UK readers are planning on visiting the event in January, we would be delighted to show them our latest systems and talk them through our myriad services.”

TDSi to showcase latest version of EXgarde integrated security solution at Intersec 2016

Integrated security manufacturer TDSi will be demonstrating the latest version of its EXgarde 4.5 integrated security solution at Intersec 2016, which runs from 17-19 January in Dubai. Appearing on Stand S2-B09, the company will also be showcasing its broad range of products and services, as well as offering one-to-one help and advice to visitors.

John Davies, managing director of TDSi, will be heading up the company’s team at the show and commented: “Intersec is the first major security event of the New Year and attracts a lot of interest regionally and throughout the international security industry. We were again overwhelmed by the interest and visitor response at the event this year, so we’re very much looking forward to travelling to Dubai next month, which is the perfect setting for this dynamic show.”

Intersec is the key event for TDSi when it comes to export markets trends, as Davies explained.

“The show is an important barometer for us when it comes to exports in the region and beyond. This year, we received a lot of feedback from visitors, partners and customers on the demands of the market and we hope to gain similar insights at Intersec 2016.”

As well as his work with TDSi, Davies serves as the BSIA’s Export Council Section chairman, so will also be viewing the proceedings at Intersec from a broader perspective as a key representative of the UK security industry.

EXgarde 4.5 on view

The TDSi stand will be featuring EXgarde 4.5 and its latest benefits, which include two-way communication with Milestone’s Access Control Module (ACM) and integration with the recently launched ASSA ABLOY KS100 server cabinet electronic lock.

The latest upgrades are designed to add further functionality and flexibility, both of them key ingredients which have influenced the development of this sophisticated software platform since its inception.

EXgarde 4.5’s enhanced integration with Milestone’s powerful ACM allows operators to use the Milestone solution as their primary user interface, while maintaining full access control via the EXgarde software. Previous versions had been able to accept data from the video management system (VMS), but version 4.5 allows data from EXgarde to be displayed within the VMS.

The integration with ASSA ABLOY’s KS100 server cabinet locking solution is in response to recent developments in physical server security needs. EXgarde 4.5 brings the KS100 system into the integrated security mix, offering the highest levels of protection (even in a shared data centre), while facilitating authorised access and full security monitoring.

Discussions on security requirements

Intersec 2016 is the perfect opportunity for visitors from the Middle East and further afield to view the latest security solutions on offer for 2016.

“TDSi will be on hand to talk about your security needs and how we can support your projects with our latest products and services,” enthused Davies. “We’re really looking forward to catching up with our customers and partners in this exciting location, and I would encourage all visitors to take a look at our stand and speak to members of the team about how we can help you.”

Tavcom enjoys continued success in UAE

Tavcom Training has begun an extensive programme of CCTV training for students at the International Centre for Security and Safety in Dubai.

Tavcom’s tutors are conducting Foundation and Advanced CCTV courses in partnership with the International Centre for Security and Safety (ICSS) to enhance the skills of local engineers. This is to enable the Department of Protective Systems of the Dubai Police Service to issue licences to those wishing to install and maintain electronic security systems in accordance with international Codes of Practice.

Based at the Dubai Police Academy, the ICSS plays a significant role in the strengthening of the skills of Dubai nationals, as well as local and contracted personnel of various nationalities working in the region. As such, it provides a range of vocational training programmes for individuals involved in the electronic security industry.

During the next 12 months it’s estimated that approximately 1,000 engineers will benefit from the specialist training provided by Tavcom’s expert team of tutors carried out at a purpose-built Training Centre.

In a separate initiative, Tavcom has developed an online training analysis tool on behalf of the Dubai Police Service which is designed to establish a person’s current level of knowledge on a wide range of CCTV technical issues and to analyse what further training is required in order for their licence to be renewed.

Tavcom presentation at EmSEC 2103

Responding to an invitation from the Department of Protective Systems, Tavcom’s CEO Mike Tennent flew to Dubai to carry out a presentation at EmSEC 2013.

This took place at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel on 28 and 29 October and brought together law enforcement and security agencies with elite companies and organisations working in the same field.

Now in its second year, EmSEC – organised by the Department of Protective Systems in partnership with the UK Home Office – Aerospace, Defence, Security & Space organisation – is regarded as the premier platform for showcasing law enforcement and public security solutions in the UAE.

“Understandably, I’m delighted that Tavcom has been given the opportunity in a number of different ways to contribute to increasing knowledge and the raising of standards in respect of CCTV in the UAE,” said Mike Tennent.

“I was particularly pleased to be invited to carry out a presentation at such a prestigious event as EmSEC 2013.”

In his presentation, Tennent highlighted important aspects of the system design process that need to be taken into consideration in order to ensure that specified cameras are fit for purpose.

He also provided some practical tips on how video management software can assist with the display, recording, storage, transmission and retrieval of video evidence and, when necessary, how the use of technology behind the software can be used to enhance poor quality images.
