Integrated Security Consultants all set to secure Singapore Sports Hub

Security and crowd management specialist Integrated Security Consultants (ISC) has been awarded the contract to secure Singapore’s multi-venue flagship the Singapore Sports Hub, which is due to open in April 2014.

The Hub, with its motto ‘where Singapore comes to play’, includes the republic’s new 55,000-capacity National Stadium, the existing 13,000-capacity Singapore Indoor Stadium as well as two multi-purpose Sports Halls, an Aquatic Centre, a 41,000 square metre retail and waterfront area, sports promenade, Singapore Sports Hub Library, Singapore Sports Museum and other sports and lifestyle facilities.

In a five-year exclusive deal with global property services provider DTZ, one of the Hub’s consortium partners, ISC has incorporated a new Singapore-based company, Integrated Security Consultants (S) Pte Ltd, as it launches this international expansion.

ISC (S) Pte Ltd will source, recruit and train a local crowd management workforce to supply the various venues at the Sports Hub, in turn bringing significant UK expertise in event staffing operations and safety stewarding to this facility.

Previously the venue management cluster manager for London 2012 and venue general manager at Games time for the Organising Committee across the Wembley Olympic site, Roger Hooker has been appointed senior project director for ISC. Hooker will mobilise the business and lead the team to deliver these services in Singapore.

Complex operating environments to be managed

Greg Gillin, senior director at DTZ, explained: “Modern multi-purpose sports, entertainment and lifestyle precincts are very complex operating environments, and the Singapore Sports Hub is no exception. DTZ is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for users of the Sports Hub, and we recognise the importance of striking a balance between security and crowd management to ensure our visitors’ experience isn’t diminished by an overwhelming security presence.”

To achieve this, DTZ looked to partner with a supplier who has global experience in security, risk reduction, crowd and event management in large public facilities.

“ISC’s experienced management team and history of working with some of the biggest global events are perfectly suited to the precinct,” added Gillin, “and we look forward to working with them to create a safe and secure Sports Hub.”

Significant vote of confidence

Patt Carr, managing director at ISC, said: “The Singapore Sports Hub will be one of the world’s highest profile centres of sporting excellence, and we’re privileged to become its security partner.”

Carr went on to state: “We believe our appointment is a significant vote of confidence both in ISC Ltd, its new subsidiary in Singapore and the event safety standards we champion. In pursuit of our long term ambitions for international growth, our new operation in Singapore has the best possible leadership in Roger Hooker. We’ll be able to meet the exacting standards of the Hub as well as promote further expansion in Southeast Asia and beyond.”

The Singapore Sports Hub, which is managed by Sports Hub Pte Ltd, is one of the largest sporting Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in the world. It’s also Singapore’s largest flagship PPP project of this nature, and won the PFI Award in London in 2011.
