SSAIB’s 2016 Installer Forum at BT Tower sold out in record time

The Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB), the fire, security and telecare certification body, has taken just eight hours to fill all 70 places available at its upcoming Installer Forum, which powered by IFSEC International and hosted by BT Redcare.

The 2016 Installer Forum is one of many similar seminars being held by SSAIB around the UK and Ireland this year, and the 4 May London event will be SSAIB’s third consecutive annual visit to the prestigious BT Tower.

Kicking off with a wide-ranging and informative update on standards and other topics from SSAIB’s CEO, Alex Carmichael, the half-day seminar will move on to a review of signalling technology presented by BT Redcare. Professional solutions specialist Citation will then provide an overview of Health and Safety issues before handing over to Tony Porter, the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, for his own presentation.

There will also be points of view from both a security manager’s and an insurer’s perspective before the morning closes with a market insight session chaired by United Business Media.

Delegates will then be invited to lunch in the BT Tower’s famous 34th Floor revolving restaurant, which is over 500 feet above ground level.

“Our third Installer Forum at the BT Tower in May is part of the SSAIB’s rolling programme of regional seminar events and other exhibition attendances being held across Britain and Ireland,” commented the organisation’s sales and marketing manager Andrew Brown. “This year alone we’ve already been to Durham, Bolton, Rotherham, Essex and Canterbury. In early April, we also visited the Titanic Centre in Belfast before moving on to the Redcow Moran Hotel in Dublin.”

Brown continued: “On 13 April we’ll be welcoming delegates at Hampden Park in Glasgow for Expo Scotland, while the month rounds out at our North East Expo which is being held at Kingston Park, the home of Newcastle Falcons. In May, we’ll be at Expo West Midlands at Wolverhampton Racecourse. Just a month later, the SSAIB takes its annual stand at the three-day IFSEC International event being staged again at ExCeL London from 21-23 June.”

NSI Installer Summit seminars focus on business solutions advice

The National Security Inspectorate’s (NSI) second Installer Summit was held in Manchester on Thursday 20 November and proved to be a major success, with over 100 delegates and 35 exhibitors in attendance. Brian Sims reports.

The NSI Installer Summit took place at the Worsley Park Marriott Hotel and showcased contributions from a wide array of top security brands, industry experts and business solutions providers, in turn offering delegates a perfect platform from which to learn about the latest innovations within the industry – including new products and solutions, equipment and tools – and, of course, the latest news from the NSI.

The Installer Summit’s programme of bite-sized seminar sessions delivered by industry experts included a focus on the importance of integrity and performance through the buying chain (presented by Simon Banks of CSL DualCom), the value apprenticeships can bring to a business (described by Kings Security’s Anthony King), Google marketing (courtesy of Clinton Porter from NVisage), employment law tips and advice (discussed by Citation’s Louise Lockett), funding for capital growth (Rob Donaldson of Baker Tilly) and the myths of cloud security (Steve Riley of RISCO Group).

In addition, there was a timely update from ACPO on the reduction of false alarms due to improving technology.

Speaking about the first NSI Installer Summit to take place in the North West, the NSI’s CEO Richard Jenkins commented: “Following the success of the first NSI Installer Summit in Birmingham last March, we listened to our installers and brought the event to Manchester. The NSI Installer Summit is a truly unique event for our approved companies, providing them with the opportunity to network, see at first hand the latest products from the leading manufacturers, hear from NSI technical experts about developments in standards and be given solutions advice from a number of business-related specialists.”

Jenkins continued: “We believe the Installer Summit adds real value to ‘The NSI Community’, ensuring that NSI approved installers are well informed about developments that impact their industry and their businesses. Given the exceptionally positive feedback we’ve received from both events, we’re delighted to announce that our next Installer Summit will take place in Birmingham on Tuesday 10 March 2015.”

Legal, tax and Health and Safety advice for businesses on the agenda at free BSIA seminar

Two Associate members of the British Security Industry Association have joined forces to offer exclusive advice on employment law, Health and Safety and taxation at a brand new event set to take place at Windsor Racecourse on Tuesday 9 September.

Jointly organised by employment law specialist Citation and tax expert Cobia, the British Security Industry Association’s (BSIA) event aims to share advice and Best Practice among small and medium-sized businesses on a range of issues (including employment law, tax planning and Health and Safety).

From dismissing poor performers without risk of tribunal claims through to enhancing a business’ operating margin, Cobia and Citation’s experts will be on hand to provide delegates with the basic information they need to improve their company’s health, safety and legal compliance processes.

Daren Wood, membership manager at the BSIA, commented: “Many small businesses simply don’t have the in-house knowledge or resources to dedicate a specific focus on areas like optimising taxation, Health and Safety and legal compliance. As such, the advice of independent experts such as Cobia and Citation can prove vital in helping small businesses to thrive.”

Free to attend, the event is designed to provide maximum benefit with minimum interruption to the working day. Formatted as a breakfast briefing, the seminar is set to run from 8.30 am until 10.30 am and is being held at a venue that’s within easy reach of the South East’s motorway network.

Key advice for businesses

James Doyle of Cobia explained: “Cobia will inform delegates of the latest opportunities to plan their employment taxes in an efficient manner, as well as covering general practice across the security industry and the benefits available to their businesses.”

Doyle went on to state: “Cobia has vast experience of working across the security industry in payroll, pensions and employment tax planning. Our clients include the OCS Group, Initial Facilities and Kingdom Security as well as at least 50 SME organisations. Cobia also works closely with the Security Industry Authority to help deliver Best Practice specifically around matters of employment status.”

Introducing Citation’s offering, national partnerships manager Nigel Lea said: “Citation has worked with clients across the security sector since our inception in 1995. We’ve worked with the BSIA for a number of years now, helping the Trade Association’s members with the highly regulated areas of Health and Safety and employment law. Wrong moves in these areas can prove costly and really damage a business. Getting it right can increase efficiencies, help a company win business and improve the bottom line.”

Lea continued: “We’re delighted to be involved with this event as it affords BSIA members a chance to see how our sector-specific services can not only help their own business, but also ways in which the BSIA is committed to putting the best member benefits possible in front of them.”

The event is open to all businesses working within the security sector, including non-members of the BSIA. Anyone wishing to attend can register by visiting the website: http://www.citation.co.uk/seminars/bsia
