Chubb Systems accredited to new ISO 45001 International Health and Safety Standard

Chubb Systems has achieved accreditation to ISO 45001, the new global standard for occupational Health and Safety designed to prevent work-related injuries and improve employee health and well-being in the working environment.

After an extensive audit conducted by Alcumus Isoquar, which itself is governed by UKAS, Chubb Systems duly received its official certification.

To qualify for the standard, Chubb Systems worked extensively to improve all areas of Health and Safety, including updating its management systems, culture and behaviours and focusing on the physical health and well-being of its people.

Meeting ISO 45001 demonstrates our commitment to proactive risk prevention, innovation and continual improvement. This enables us to grow as a business.”

The new accreditation further recognises Chubb Systems’ ability – as a leading security systems integrator in the Critical National Infrastructure space – to safely deliver leading-edge technology solutions in high-risk environments.

Nichola Maher, EH&S manager at Chubb Systems, added: “Implementing ISO 45001 has been challenging, but extremely worthwhile. We must never become complacent about safety and the environment or lose sight of ensuring our customers’ safety.”

Chubb Fire & Security recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a new high performance workspace in Blackburn. The development, which saw the demolition of three existing Chubb buildings on the Shadsworth Business Park, has resulted in a modern environment for employees working in IT, finance, supply chain and customer services. It’s also the new home for two specific businesses of Chubb: Chubb Systems – which specialises in the most complex, enterprise-wide installations including those for critical infrastructure – and Chubb Community Care, encompassing its R&D and engineering teams.

“This is the culmination of many years of hard work for the Chubb team, from planning through to build and relocation,” said Craig Forbes, finance director at Chubb. “We’re delighted with the results and believe that this move greatly enhances our credentials as a good local Blackburn employer. We’re also extremely grateful for the support of the council, the local community and the contractors who have made it all possible.”

Chubb Systems set to showcase fire and security solutions at Data Centre World

Chubb Systems will be showcasing its smart security management software – along with the company’s extensive range of fire safety and security solutions – at Data Centre World on 15-16 March at ExCeL, London.

Chubb Systems will be demonstrating its powerful fire and security management system – ADACS – which collates data from multiple channels, enabling Data Centre operators to manage fire safety, security, building controls and power supplies from a single platform.

The feature-rich ADACS platform presents real-time information to control access privileges, monitor fire detection and suppression systems and manage CCTV and monitoring systems installed within the Data Centre.

Chubb works with Data Centre operators to tailor solutions to help protect people and assets and assist in safeguarding Data Centre uptime. “We use our expertise and the latest security and fire technology to create secure, reliable and compliant solutions,” said Graeme Heanan, managing director at Chubb Systems. “These solutions provide a first line of defence and early warning of any problems, preventing a small incident from becoming a major issue and limiting downtime to an absolute minimum.”

Visitors to Data Centre World will also be able to view Chubb’s cabinet access management system (CAMS), a safe and secure solution for the management of cabinets and racks. The CAMS allows only authorised personnel access to allocated cabinets and supports compliance with a full auditing capability. Permissions are administered via the Chubb ADACS system, in turn giving direct control over access rights.

Chubb’s comprehensive approach includes the design, installation, maintenance and monitoring of intrusion detection systems; high-performance video surveillance systems linked to a 24/7 CCTV monitoring centre, advanced access control and fire detection systems (gas fire suppression systems and high-pressure water mist).

Chubb Fire & Security’s systems business receives RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety standards

For the third year in succession, Chubb Fire & Security Limited has received a Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for its systems business. For its part, Chubb Fire & Security’s branch network business has received a Silver Award.

Mark Redding, senior EH&S manager at Chubb Fire & Security and Steve Cottrell (EH&S manager for Chubb Systems) accepted the awards on behalf of the organisation. Both agreed that RoSPA’s recognition of Chubb’s commitment to occupational Health and Safety is a tribute to the consistent value Chubb places on employee welfare.

“Our occupational Health and Safety approach is at the heart of everything we do, and this recognition reinforces our customers’ trust in Chubb’s business,” said Cottrell.

RoSPA is at the heart of accident prevention and universally recognised as the ultimate authority in Health and Safety matters. Its Occupational Health and Safety Awards are internationally known and, in 2015, took place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

By achieving a RoSPA Award, an organisation is proving its commitment to maintaining a well-balanced approach to Health and Safety management, as well as demonstrating superior practices in areas such as leadership and workplace contribution.

Chubb Fire & Security is investing in a significant redevelopment programme designed to transform its Blackburn office campus into an advanced, integrated and sustainable space not only for Chubb but also the UK affiliates of Otis and Carrier.

The project – which involves the demolition of three existing Chubb buildings on the Shadsworth Business Park and the temporary relocation of employees while work is undertaken – will result in a modern, high-performance building for 500 employees operational across business support functions from all three brands.

It will also be the new home for Chubb Community Care and Chubb Systems, including its R&D and engineering teams.

Upon completion in 2016, the new building will serve as a showcase for the capabilities of all three brands.

“The new office building will be equipped with advanced solutions from Chubb Fire & Security, Otis and Carrier,” said Alastair Reynolds, managing director of Chubb Fire & Security.

“Together, as UTC Building & Industrial Systems, we’re the world leader in building solutions. This location will embody that distinction. It will be an environmentally responsible, smart and energy-efficient workplace.”

Graeme Heanan, managing director for systems at Chubb Fire & Security, will lead the development of the new facilities. Heanan told Risk UK the shared workspace is designed to result in synergies and enhanced integration among the brands.

“We’re combining our skills in designing fire and security systems, access control, building automation, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and lifts with the building design expertise from our architecture and construction partners to provide a work environment that supports our employees’ well-being and productivity,” explained Heanan. “Ultimately, this will enable us to better serve our customers.”

Kate Hollern, leader of Blackburn and Darwen District Council, enthused: “It’s a major investment by a global business and means a long-term commitment to the Borough with all that entails, including new jobs for residents. It also shows the confidence that industry-leading brands such as Chubb have in deciding to make our Borough their home.”

Hollern added: “We’ve worked closely with Chubb to secure this deal which underscores the Council’s commitment to collaborating with members of the business community in order to deliver wider prosperity both now and in the future.”

Craig Forbes, finance director at Chubb Fire & Security, stated: “After two years of planning, we’re delighted to confirm our commitment to the redevelopment of the Chubb campus in Blackburn. Our new, high-performance building will benefit not only our employees but, with the integration of some of our back office operations across Chubb, Otis and Carrier it will also help to build a foundation that actively supports the continued growth of UTC Building & Industrial Systems in the UK.”

Construction work on the new facilities is expected to begin later this year.

*Chubb (a leading provider of security and life safety solutions), Otis (the world’s largest maintainer of people-moving products) and Carrier, a world leader in high-technology heating, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions are all part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp (NYSE:UTX)
