Chubb Fire & Security has been recognised as “the UK’s leading fire and security protection brand” in the 2018 Business Superbrands Survey, which coincides with Chubb’s 200th Anniversary.

A long-standing Superbrand, Chubb was first listed in 2007. The UK’s Business Superbrands listing was launched in 1995 with the stories of thousands of brands, including their history, development and achievements. Since 2001, it has been tracking and celebrating the UK’s business-to-business brands.

The Centre for Brand Analysis (TCBA), the organisation behind the annual Superbrands study, goes through a rigorous and intense selection process that includes soliciting the opinion of more than 2,500 business professionals with purchasing or managerial responsibility, along with the input of an independent expert Superbrands Council.

The development, which saw the demolition of three existing Chubb buildings on the Shadsworth Business Park, has resulted in a modern environment for employees working in IT, finance, supply chain and customer services. It’s also the new home for two specific businesses of Chubb: Chubb Systems – which specialises in the most complex, enterprise-wide installations including those for critical infrastructure – and Chubb Community Care, encompassing its R&D and engineering teams.

“This is the culmination of many years of hard work for the Chubb team, from planning through to build and relocation,” said Craig Forbes, finance director at Chubb. “We’re delighted with the results and believe that this move greatly enhances our credentials as a good local Blackburn employer. We’re also extremely grateful for the support of the council, the local community and the contractors who have made it all possible.”

Chubb wins prestigious Fire Safety & Security Award at 2018 Electrical Review Excellence Awards

Chubb Fire & Security has won the Fire Safety & Security Award at the Electrical Review Excellence Awards 2018 for its design and installation of an innovative wireless fire detection system at the prestigious Queen’s Hotel in Penzance.

The Electrical Review Excellence Awards recognise projects that embrace the latest in electrical engineering, display forward-thinking design and implementation and champion the highest environmental, safety and energy efficiency standards.

The Judges were looking for evidence of how the key objectives were fulfilled, as well as examples of innovation, smart thinking, clever design, effective technical solutions and collaborative problem solving.

ChubbFireSafetyAward

The Queen’s Hotel turned to Chubb after a series of local fires led the management team to review their fire safety requirements across the whole estate. Chubb installed more than 400 wireless detectors all networked to the fire detection panel in the hotel’s main reception. It’s a fully-zoned and addressable system that gives hotel management immediate visibility on where an alarm has been generated.

A wireless system was chosen to minimise the cabling work that would have meant the temporary closure of the hotel. Installation was phased such that at no stage was the hotel without fire protection.

Graham Brimson, South West regional director for Chubb, stated that the accolade is recognition of the dedication and hard work of the Chubb team.

“Our team of engineers and installers did a great job to complete the installation at the hotel within two weeks with a minimum of disruption to guests and staff,” enthused Brimson. “The feedback from the hotel was extremely complimentary, and we’re very pleased to have received this additional accolade for the project.”

Chubb Fire & Security is investing in a significant redevelopment programme designed to transform its Blackburn office campus into an advanced, integrated and sustainable space not only for Chubb but also the UK affiliates of Otis and Carrier.

The project – which involves the demolition of three existing Chubb buildings on the Shadsworth Business Park and the temporary relocation of employees while work is undertaken – will result in a modern, high-performance building for 500 employees operational across business support functions from all three brands.

It will also be the new home for Chubb Community Care and Chubb Systems, including its R&D and engineering teams.

Upon completion in 2016, the new building will serve as a showcase for the capabilities of all three brands.

“The new office building will be equipped with advanced solutions from Chubb Fire & Security, Otis and Carrier,” said Alastair Reynolds, managing director of Chubb Fire & Security.

Graeme Heanan, managing director for systems at Chubb Fire & Security, will lead the development of the new facilities. Heanan told Risk UK the shared workspace is designed to result in synergies and enhanced integration among the brands.

“We’re combining our skills in designing fire and security systems, access control, building automation, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and lifts with the building design expertise from our architecture and construction partners to provide a work environment that supports our employees’ well-being and productivity,” explained Heanan. “Ultimately, this will enable us to better serve our customers.”

Kate Hollern, leader of Blackburn and Darwen District Council, enthused: “It’s a major investment by a global business and means a long-term commitment to the Borough with all that entails, including new jobs for residents. It also shows the confidence that industry-leading brands such as Chubb have in deciding to make our Borough their home.”

Hollern added: “We’ve worked closely with Chubb to secure this deal which underscores the Council’s commitment to collaborating with members of the business community in order to deliver wider prosperity both now and in the future.”

Craig Forbes, finance director at Chubb Fire & Security, stated: “After two years of planning, we’re delighted to confirm our commitment to the redevelopment of the Chubb campus in Blackburn. Our new, high-performance building will benefit not only our employees but, with the integration of some of our back office operations across Chubb, Otis and Carrier it will also help to build a foundation that actively supports the continued growth of UTC Building & Industrial Systems in the UK.”

Construction work on the new facilities is expected to begin later this year.

*Chubb (a leading provider of security and life safety solutions), Otis (the world’s largest maintainer of people-moving products) and Carrier, a world leader in high-technology heating, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions are all part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp (NYSE:UTX)
