Axis Communications unveils Guard Suite for enhanced video surveillance efficiencies

Network surveillance specialist Axis Communications has developed Guard Suite, a series of robust video analytics applications that quickly turn the company’s network cameras into smart security systems, thereby allowing a more pro-active approach to video surveillance.

This particular solutions offering targets small and medium-sized installations with an easy-to-install and affordable system for efficient surveillance that’s well suited to commercial, industrial and public buildings and indoor areas.

Available for various monitoring requirements, the applications complement Axis’ range of network camera solutions and are easily integrated with Camera Station, the proven video management system (VMS) specifically optimised for Axis Communications’ network video products.

“With Guard Suite you can enhance the video surveillance capabilities of network cameras and turn them into even more powerful devices,” said Peter Friberg, ‎director of solutions management at Axis Communications. “Small and medium-sized businesses can benefit from efficient detection capabilities, resulting in fewer false alarms and missed incidents along with more effective investigative features. Guard Suite is an ideal, cost-efficient and reliable add-on that will enable our customers to ensure safer and better protected premises and assets.”

Guard Suite offers a reliable solution for use in low-traffic areas such as after-hours monitoring of retail outlets and offices, parking zones and other unattended areas where reliable motion detection is needed.

In addition, other video motion detection features are available through Axis’ application development partners. These provide a broad range of video analytics that work with Axis’ network video products.

Guard Suite provides robust detection as video analysis is performed directly on the camera’s uncompressed video stream and supported by dedicated False Alarm Filtering technology for high reliability.

In total, Guard Suite offers three applications:

*Motion Guard: For general motion detection, typically on premises that are supposed to be empty after hours (eg parking areas and construction sites, etc)

*Fence Guard: For the protection of a fenced-off area by detecting attempts to climb or sabotage the fence

*Loitering Guard: For detecting suspicious behaviour in semi-public areas where loitering may pose a security issue

Guard Suite is designed to be installer-friendly. The applications are downloadable from the Axis Camera Application Platform gallery and easy to install and configure, with an intuitive user interface, contextual help and smart configuration options. A quick, five-step set-up wizard guides the installer through calibration, area, filters and custom profile settings (eg for night-time and windy days, etc)

Axis introduces first model in new series of multi-sensor fixed domes with panoramic overview

Axis Communications’ new Q3709-PVE Network Camera has three 4K sensors that together provide a detailed 180º overview of a large area, outdoors as well as indoors, in an efficient one-camera installation.

The cameras provide video with “unparalleled” streaming performance, smoothly capturing movements in high detail at 30 frames per second (fps).

As the first camera in the new Q37 Series. the Q3709-PVE provides situational awareness of large areas, making the camera ideal for city surveillance applications as well as logistic centres, airports and train stations.

“An effective one-camera installation providing overview and image detail at the same time is an efficient way to ensure that surveillance needs are met in large open areas,” commented Erik Frännlid, Axis’ director of product management.

“Multi-sensor cameras are also well-suited in applications such as squares, stadiums, parking lots and perimeter surveillance where large areas need to be monitored in high image detail in order to ensure complete situational awareness.”

Installation is easy, reliable and cost-efficient. No focusing is required since the lenses are factory-focused.

The camera comes in a stylish and discreet design with a removable weather shield that protects against rain, snow and sunlight and allows for an easy ‘blend’ with the local environment.

These cameras provide a “perfect” 180° overview in up to 33 Megapixel resolution. They offer a video streaming performance of 3 × 4K at 30 fps or 3 × 11 Megapixels at 20 fps.

Further features of the Q3709-PVE include the following:

  • outdoor-ready with IP66 and NEMA 4X ratings
  • vandal-resistant with an IK10 rating
  • operational in a wide temperature range with standard Power over Ethernet (PoE+)
  • video motion detection and tampering alarm

The cameras are supported by the Axis Application Development Partner Program and Axis Camera Station. They also include support for edge storage, Axis Camera Application PlatformAxis Video Hosting System and ONVIF for easy camera system integration and for application developers to provide the camera with intelligent capabilities.

Axis Communications set to demonstrate ‘smarter and safer world’ of video surveillance at IFSEC International 2014

At IFSEC International 2014, network video specialist Axis Communications will be demonstrating how the company is continuing to open new opportunities and deliver a smarter and safer world of video surveillance.

As well as showcasing the latest innovations in network video at the international security trade show, Axis Communications will be inviting attendees to learn first-hand how partnering with them can help businesses discover new markets and tap into new commercial opportunities.

Axis will be joined by five of its key partners, in turn offering visitors the chance to learn more about cloud hosting, edge-embedded analytics, efficient transmission and the use of network video to continually drive business improvement and performance as well as enhance safety and security.

Sharing the Axis stand (Stand E1000) will be leading video analytics companies Digital Barriers, IPS Intelligent Video Analytics and Wavestore, as well as communications and video specialist Fält Communications and video hosting system provider Observit.

Focus on cutting-edge technologies

The Axis stand will feature some of the company’s most cutting-edge technologies, including the latest innovations in ultra-HD 4K resolution and Axis Camera Station software for video monitoring and recording.

Other advances on show in the ‘image usability’ area will allow visitors to see first-hand Axis’ market-leading Lightfinder technology as well as its Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), thermal imaging and other technical innovations (among them nitrogen-pressurised stainless steel HDTV PTZ dome cameras).

In addition, this year Axis will also be dedicating an entire section of the stand to its hugely successful partner programmes, including the Channel Partner Programme and the Architecture and Engineering Programme, designed to support network architects engineers and consultants involved in the design and specification of IP-based security systems.

As part of its commitment to training and development, Axis Communications’ Academy will also have its own presence on the stand. After having trained over 40,000 people globally and with training in the Northern European region at record levels, the Axis Academy is proving to be an expert in its field and clearly demonstrates the desire for recognised certified training to enable surveillance professionals to differentiate themselves in a crowded marketplace.

Presence at the IFSEC Academy

Throughout the three-day show, members of Axis’ Northern European team will be delivering several seminars, these include:

Benefits of network video

Atul Rajput, regional director for northern Europe at Axis Communications, said: “I passionately believe that, as an industry, we are guilty of underselling the benefits of network video. All-too-often, network video is viewed as a cost when in reality it can be a revenue generating opportunity.”

He continued: “We know that one of the benefits of network video is the endless opportunities for integration into complementary applications, but the question remains… Is that of real benefit to our customers and what opportunities does it present?”

Rajput went on to state: “We need to be bold and engage with all areas and departments as our technology touches every part of a business from logistics and operations right through to marketing and, of course, security. Network video shouldn’t be just a cost centre. It should be a key component in driving operational efficiencies throughout a business.”

He added: “For years, the conversation has only been about the transition from analogue to digital. That discussion has ended. Today’s successful companies are those that are proactively looking at ways in which network video can create new business opportunities. Companies that embrace this and strive to discover new and innovative solutions can look forward to a smarter and successful future.”

In conclusion, Rajput explained: “At IFSEC International 2014, we are determined to show people how we can help them and their organisations not only enhance their security, but also add real value to their business. We believe that our experience and that of our partner network means we are perfectly positioned to drive this change.”
