Institute of Risk Management receives Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme encourages employers to support the defence community and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses Gold, Silver and Bronze awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support for the defence community encompassing the Armed Forces and who align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

Colonel (Retired) Peter Germain, CEO of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Greater London, informed Security Matters: “The Institute of Risk Management signed the Armed Forces Covenant last year. I’m now delighted to congratulate the organisation on taking the next step of partnering with the defence sector and, in doing so, receiving the Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.”

Germain added: “The Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award recognises employers who state their intent to be a Forces-friendly employer. The team and I look forward to developing a mutually beneficial relationship and hope to see the Institute of Risk Management strive for the Silver accolade in future rotations of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.”

Iain Wright CFIRM, chair of the Institute of Risk Management, responded: “There are some 200,000 people in the Armed Forces and many of them are making risk management decisions every day. It’s vitally important that the Armed Forces and businesses are mutually engaged. The Institute of Risk Management will be at the forefront of this drive.”

Wright continued: “We’re very proud to be recognised with this award. We view it as part of a wider pledge by the organisation to increase the risk management profession’s visibility to military personnel and veterans. We provide accessible and relevant training and qualifications that will help military personnel make the transition into the business world.”

In addition, Wright pointed out: “Many of the skills learned by service personnel naturally fit within the world of risk management. We’re keen to ensure these skills are recognised, and that we can help to support lifelong learning and career transition where and when possible.”

Certificate in Operational Risk Management

The Certificate in Operational Risk Management was recently approved as being eligible for full ELCAS funding for veterans (through the Institute of Operational Risk, which is part of the Institute of Risk Management Group).

Other qualifications offered by the Institute of Risk Management include the International Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management, the International Certificate in Financial Services, the Digital Risk Management Certificate, the Supply Chain Risk Management Certificate and the International Diploma in Risk Management.

The qualifications are delivered by online supported distance learning and are relevant to all sectors globally. Institute of Risk Management qualifications are considered as the benchmark by employers for anyone wanting to pursue a career in the discipline.

Members of the Armed Forces and veterans are eligible for a 10% discount on the Institute of Risk Management’s suite of industry-recognised training courses (which are currently being delivered virtually) including the flagship Fundamentals of Risk Management course.

The Institute of Risk Management supports Captain Victoria Robinson (its head of marketing and communications who’s also the County Public Relations Officer for the Kent Army Cadet Force) with leave for cadet-related activities.
