OPTEX showcases high security intrusion detection solutions at Security Essen

Next month, the OPTEX EMEA team will be showcasing its range of intrusion detection and perimeter protection sensors on Stand 5B48 in Hall 5 at Security Essen 2018.

The global sensor manufacturer’s stand will include a broad range of applications for its intelligent intrusion sensors and demonstrate how they can further enhance the overall effectiveness and reliability of CCTV and integrated security systems.

OPTEX will be showcasing its multi-layered intrusion detection capabilities for commercial premises and critical infrastructure sites. The company will demonstrate, for example, how a fenced perimeter can be protected using fibre optic sensors from a group company, FiberSensys. Alternatively, ‘virtual’ perimeter walls can be generated by using its REDSCAN laser-scan detectors. The newly-launched RLS-3060SH Version 8 enables detection up to 100 metres in vertical mode.

To protect the approaches to a building, OPTEX will be demonstrating both its long-range motion sensors. The SIP Series sensors are capable of detecting objects within an area of 100×4 metres or 50×30 metres and provide three independent zones to drive cameras positions. The new version of the RLS-3060 LiDAR has more application-specific modes. There’s now an extended range for a pre-warning zone beyond a 30-metre radius up to 50 metres.

For asset protection, and particularly to protect high-value or potentially hazardous items, the high resolution REDSCAN RLS-2020 can create a virtual shield that will detect something as small as a child’s hand.

“Since the opening of our German office last September, opportunities within the region have been increasing and we look forward to exhibiting at Essen and meeting our customers to discuss potential projects,” observed Masaya Kida, managing director of OPTEX EMEA. “The wider European team will be on the stand, including the sales teams from the Benelux region and Eastern Europe as well as the Nordics. Our EMEA product, technical and marketing managers will also be there.”

Kida added: “Our sensors are part of an overall security solution. We hope to show visitors how our different sensing technologies can be used for a variety of applications. Some sensors, such as our LiDAR products – the REDSCAN series, are highly versatile and reliable, even in the most challenging of outdoor conditions.”

As a business, OPTEX continues to go from strength to strength in Europe as its sensors become integrated with an increasing number of VMS platforms, including Genetec. OPTEX will also be exhibiting on Genetec’s Stand (5G30 in Hall 5).

Number of ONVIF-conformant products reaches 10,000 milestone

ONVIF, the global standardisation initiative for IP-based physical security products, has surpassed 10,000 conformant products that meet its global interoperability standards, further broadening the organisation’s offer and relevance in the IP-based physical security marketplace.

This level of conformant products marks yet another milestone for ONVIF as it celebrates its tenth year as a standards organisation, providing interoperability specifications for IP-based physical security products. The Profiles offered by ONVIF address video surveillance and access control functions and are increasingly applicable in security and connectivity environments such as Safe City initiatives, Internet of Things applications and intelligent building automation.

“With more than 10,000 conformant products in its tenth year, the acceptance for ONVIF in the market has grown in a way that no-one could have anticipated,” explained Per Björkdahl, chair of the ONVIF Steering Committee. “This number represents not only the success of ONVIF, but how our member companies, many of whom are competitors, have collaborated to provide solutions that are relevant and needed in the market. This is a strong testament of the importance of standards in our rapidly evolving marketplace.”

In the past two years, ONVIF has continued to see a strong commitment from its member base representing a majority of the manufacturers in the industry, along with a dramatic increase in new conformant products. The numbers reflect the increasing demand for open source standards in the market. ONVIF will continue to provide the framework for further conformant products that enable interoperability.

ONVIF-conformant products are produced only by ONVIF member companies and must support at least one ONVIF Profile. Products must be registered under the ONVIF list of conformant products to be considered conformant.

The Conformant Products page on the ONVIF website, onvif.org, is the only authoritative list of ONVIF-conformant products.

ONVIF has a global member base of established camera, video management system and access control solution companies. With Profile S for streaming video, Profile G for recording and storage, Profile C for physical access control, Profile Q for improved out-of-the-box functionality, Profile A for broader access control configuration and the Profile T Release Candidate for advanced streaming, ONVIF continues to work with its members to expand the number of IP interoperability solutions ONVIF-conformant products can provide.

*Further information about ONVIF-conformant products, including member companies and their conformant models, is available on the ONVIF website: www.onvif.org

Pointer named Premium Partner within newly re-launched Panasonic Security Partner Programme

Pointer has become the first UK integrator to achieve Premium Partner status as part of the newly re-launched Panasonic Security Partner Programme.

The Japanese manufacturer refreshed its channel partner programme earlier this year and installers and integrators involved in video surveillance installations were invited to participate, with their status determined by their level of product training, sales volume and end user feedback.

Premium Partner status gives Pointer – a specialist in the design, installation, service, maintenance and monitoring of electronic security systems – access to additional support from the surveillance systems manufacturer as well as access to pre-qualified sales leads via the dedicated Partner Portal.

Additional benefits include five-year warranties, advanced product replacement, training, technical advice and preferential placement within the Panasonic ‘Where To Buy’ listing on the website.

“Pointer has proven to be an excellent partner for Panasonic,” said Gerard Figols, European category manager at Panasonic. “The company’s expertise in high-end, mission-critical installations suits our product portfolio. We receive a large number of end user leads requesting solutions or products every day, and Premium Partner status means Pointer will have first refusal on these opportunities.”

Pointer has been in business for nearly 50 years. Providing services throughout the UK, it has the knowledge and experience to deliver large-scale projects for blue chip clients that recognise the importance of managing risk for their staff, property and key data.

Pointer’s director Sandy Rowan explained: “We’re delighted to have achieved Premium Partner status with Panasonic. It’s a direct indication of the dedication that our sales and engineering team has when it comes to training and improving their market knowledge. We think that our customers can benefit greatly from Pointer being a Premium Partner of Panasonic, not least in terms of the greater access to support and replacement technology that this affords.”

ASSA ABLOY UK determined to ‘Raise the Bar’ on fire door safety standards for Fire Door Safety Week 2018

Over three million fire doors are installed every year in the UK, yet incorrect specification, poor installation and a lack of maintenance are still common occurrences. In light of this, and to coincide with Fire Door Safety Week 2018, ASSA ABLOY UK is holding a dedicated event at West Midlands Fire Service’s headquarters in Birmingham to help ‘Raise the Bar’ on standards of quality for fire door safety.

The event will take place on Thursday 27 September and is aimed at building owners, facility managers and individuals responsible for fire door safety. Key topics to be covered on the day include the importance and future of fire door certification, common issues of fire door installation, inspection and maintenance and the importance of compartmentalisation within high rise residential buildings.

On the day, attendees can expect a discussion panel, speaker presentations and a series of Case Studies delivered by representatives from the British Woodworking Federation, BRE Global, Exova Warringtonfire, the West Midlands Fire Service, the National Health Service and, of course, ASSA ABLOY UK.

David Hindle, head of door controls for ASSA ABLOY UK, explained: “The draft report produced by BRE Global on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Service highlighted that only 17% of door closers at Grenfell Tower were present and working. Door closers and other door hardware that impact the performance of a fire door or doorset are a critical part of fire safety and should be subject to performance standards and regular maintenance and testing.”

Hindle continued: “After the success of our Fire Door Safety Week 2017 event, we wanted to continue to help in educating professionals on raising the standards of fire door safety. We urge building owners, facility managers and individuals responsible for fire door safety to attend this year’s event to learn more as we all have to start treating and recognising ‘passive fire protection’ as being critical at all times.”

ASSA ABLOY UK is campaigning for increased fire safety awareness. An insightful and educational White Paper was recently issued in response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety. The White Paper will also be showcased and discussed in depth at the event during Fire Door Safety Week.

Available to download from www.assaabloy.co.uk/FDSW2018, the White Paper summarises and provides practical insights into the key points made within Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review. It also suggests ways in which everyone can strive towards industry-wide Best Practice in the future.
