ASSA ABLOY UK relaunches Foundations Plus training course for security professionals

Access control solutions specialist ASSA ABLOY UK has relaunched its popular Foundations Plus course, which covers minimum performance standards, Dynamic Lockdown and the Construction Products Regulation.

The Foundations training course covers the majority of standards applicable to doorsets – from hinges through to door selectors – and helps delegates to understand the needs of a door, from its location within the building to the purpose the door must fulfil.

The Foundations Plus course represents an advanced add-on to the basic Foundations course, going one step further in educating delegates on industry terminology. This provides attendees with the knowledge to specify products that are suitable for both the application and door type.

The course covers the locking and escape requirements for access control electric locking in both retrofit and new build applications, in turn ensuring a safe and secure solution. Enrolment on the Foundations Plus course is subject to having successfully completed the Foundations course.

Pat Jefferies, commercial director at ASSA ABLOY UK, said: “The first relaunched Foundations Plus course was successfully hosted at ASSA ABLOY UK’S headquarters on Friday 23 February, with a full house of customers and specifiers. The course uses the theory and knowledge gained from the basic Foundations course to ensure the correct specification of compliant electric locking solutions for access control doors. It provides an excellent link from the Foundations course to our more advanced training modules such as Electric Locking.”

Jefferies added: “Foundations and Foundations Plus can both be used to gain valuable Continuing Professional Development points, so we encourage anyone involved in the specification of doors and access control solutions, whether they’re an installer, a security manager, an end user or specifier, to be involved.”

*Foundations Plus course dates for 2018 are Friday 25 May, Friday 27 July and Friday 19 October. For further information or to book a place on one of the courses, visit www.abloy.co.uk/academy, call 01902 364 500 or e-mail: academy@abloy.co.uk

LILIN introduces next generation analogue HD auto focus surveillance cameras for end users

LILIN has announced a major expansion of its surveillance camera family with three new AHD models featuring 1080p/1280H resolution, a remote auto-focus 2.8-8 mm lens and long transmission distances, along with the convenience of three form factors (ie dome, bullet and turret) to fit a variety of applications.

The new remote auto focus AHD products provide a value added offer with the high quality video found in LILIN’s popular IP series with integration into leading automation platforms.

LILINAutoFocusCameras

“We have worked hard in identifying ways to improve the overall installation experience with our HD analogue products,” explained general manager Joe Cook. “Simply mount and aim the camera type that best fits the application then adjust the FOV and fine-tune the focus using AHD UTC communication from the DHD516 Series and other compatible recorders. Our newest AHD cameras allow security installers to maintain the familiarity of analogue video technology while allowing their end users to enjoy the benefits of HD surveillance combined with simplified installation.”

UTC technology allows end users to remotely set up LILIN AHD cameras using compatible UTC recorders, in turn reducing the time taken to do so and eliminating the need for varifocal adjustments at the camera. In addition, the infrared LED automatically activates for image capture in total darkness.

The new AHD652AX2.8 is a small, unobtrusive turret-style dome camera designed for indoor/outdoor use, and especially in low-light areas. The AHD662AX2.8 is a rugged outdoor dome camera featuring IK vandal-resistance protection, a defogging capability and an IP66 weather resistance rating such that it can operate in a wide temperature range from -40°F to 122°F.

The AHD842AX2.8 is a fully-featured bullet camera for both indoor and outdoor use.

Double award triumph for IDIS security camera technology

The H.265 IR PTZ surveillance camera developed by IDIS has achieved the rare distinction of winning two of Germany’s top international design accolades. The innovative camera has scooped both a 2018 International iF Design Award and the Red Dot ‘Seal of Quality’ Award.

The annual iF Design Awards are globally-recognised prizes, this year attracting no less 6,402 entries from 54 countries. The awards have been running since 1954. This time around, the panel of independent expert Judges selected just 65 winners.

Also dating back to the 1950s, the Red Dot Award is now one of the most sought-after quality marks when it comes to recognition of good design. The scheme recognises qualities such as ‘ease of use, high level of functionality, attractive appearance and compatibility with the environment’.

The double-winning entry from IDIS, namely the H.265 IR DC-S3883HRX model, provides clearer images using an 8 MP auto focus lens. It’s equipped with high-powered IR LEDs for motion detection and image analysis of objects at up to 200 metres during night-time conditions. The cameras’ horizontally-placed lenses and IR capabilities are designed to reduce camera height and prevent diffuse reflection during tilt moving. This design feature improves usability with notably smooth movement of the lens head.

IDIS’ winning network PTZ also features a 31x auto focus optical zoom lens delivering 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) resolution, as well as two-way audio, a built-in heater and PoE. In addition, it incorporates IDIS Intelligent Codec and Motion Adaptive Transmission technology, which delivers savings of up to 90% on storage and bandwidth depending upon the scene and resolution.

James Min, managing director of IDIS Europe, has welcomed the iF and Red Dot Awards, duly attributing IDIS’ success to continual investment in product design aimed at superior performance and ease of use.

Min commented: “The IDIS development team is delighted with these international awards because they recognise the importance that we afford to product excellence in surveillance. Our aim is to continually improve on the design, quality and performance of our products and to lead innovation whenever and wherever we can.”

Multitone Electronics to debut Appear Crew and Ambulance Apps at BAPCO 2018 Exhibition and Conference

Multitone Electronics plc, a specialist in the design, manufacture and implementation of integrated communication systems, will debut its Appear Crew and Ambulance Apps for emergency teams and first responders on Stand J7 at the BAPCO Conference and Exhibition 2018, which is running at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 March.

Appear Crew uses Multitone’s highly successful Appear mobile platform to assist emergency crews with reliable and secure messaging. As a complement to a pager, the Appear Crew App registers a response from each crew member and tracks their progress to their station from whichever location they happen to be.

The system can also be used to track the movement of individual team members right to the fire station, showing locations on a map. This allows the Command and Control team to ensure that everyone’s accounted for when required.

MultitoneBAPCO2018

Multitone’s Emergency Services major accounts manager Peter Eborall stated: “We anticipate great interest and demand for our Appear Crew App, which we’ve developed by working in close collaboration with Fire and Rescue Services. It has been extensively trialled and rigorously tested to ensure that it can be relied upon to provide the essential support needed to save lives.”

Eborall added: “In addition to fire and rescue crews, the Appear Crew App is ideally suited to meet the exacting communications requirements of both RNLI and Coastguard emergency teams.”

Also on Stand J7 is Multitone’s new Ambulance App, which has been designed specifically to assist and co-ordinate teams from full-time paramedics to Community First Responders. “Based upon our Appear Lite solution, the Ambulance App provides highly reliable contact, with proof-of-delivery for a proven audit trail,” added Eborall. “The App is highly secure, preventing sensitive information from being removed or screenshots being taken. This ensures confidentiality at all times.”

The Ambulance App sends an automatic acknowledgement when the recipient receives a message such that the Command and Control team know it has been read. The App features a clear and simple-to-use interface.
