“The show is an important barometer for us when it comes to exports in the region and beyond. This year, we received a lot of feedback from visitors, partners and customers on the demands of the market and we hope to gain similar insights at Intersec 2016.”

As well as his work with TDSi, Davies serves as the BSIA’s Export Council Section chairman, so will also be viewing the proceedings at Intersec from a broader perspective as a key representative of the UK security industry.

EXgarde 4.5 on view

The TDSi stand will be featuring EXgarde 4.5 and its latest benefits, which include two-way communication with Milestone’s Access Control Module (ACM) and integration with the recently launched ASSA ABLOY KS100 server cabinet electronic lock.

The latest upgrades are designed to add further functionality and flexibility, both of them key ingredients which have influenced the development of this sophisticated software platform since its inception.

EXgarde 4.5’s enhanced integration with Milestone’s powerful ACM allows operators to use the Milestone solution as their primary user interface, while maintaining full access control via the EXgarde software. Previous versions had been able to accept data from the video management system (VMS), but version 4.5 allows data from EXgarde to be displayed within the VMS.

GICSR adopts RESILIA Cyber Resilience Best Practice to assist critical infrastructure organisations

The Global Institute for Cyber Security + Research (GICSR) is adopting RESILIA Cyber Resilience Best Practice and its certified training and awareness learning to advance GICSR’s mission of improving the resilience of critical infrastructure organisations against cyber attack.

The RESILIA portfolio, which is managed by AXELOS Global Best Practice, will be delivered via the GICSR Global Cyber Range.

Cyber risks are now recognised as one of the most significant risks to national security as well as to an organisation’s market reputation, customer trust and competitive advantage.

Effective cyber resilience requires a proactive stance to reduce risks that will support operational efficiency, innovation, economic prosperity and public safety.

For organisations to fully harness this opportunity they need to manage a holistic approach that encompasses people, process and technology.

NickWildingAXELOS

Nick Wilding: head of RESILIA Cyber Resilience at AXELOS

GICSR is a non-profit organisation linking critical infrastructure stakeholders to define and deliver scalable, flexible and adaptable cyber resilience solutions.

Deborah Kobza, GICSR president and CEO, commented: “Strengthening cyber security resilience requires collaboration, co-ordination and a ‘Call to Action’. It’s a shared public/private responsibility across all critical infrastructure stakeholder organisations. We’re delighted to be adding the RESILIA Best Practice certified training and awareness learning, which is based on ITIL, to existing capabilities within the GICSR Global Cyber Range as a means of better tackling the critical ‘human factor’ aspects of cyber resilience.”

Collaboration and Best Practice

As stated, RESILIA is managed by AXELOS Global Best Practice. The RESILIA certified training and awareness learning portfolio helps build collaboration and Best Practice across an organisation. It embeds the awareness, insight and skills required to make organisations more effective in keeping their critical information safe.

The portfolio is being delivered via the GISCR Global Cyber Range including access to a virtual live network environment in order to apply theory to practice.

Nick Wilding, head of RESILIA Cyber Resilience at AXELOS, commented: “I’m delighted that RESILIA has been adopted by GICSR to help critical infrastructure organisations build the skills and insight required to enable cross-functional collaboration in managing and continually improving an effective cyber resilience strategy and management system. 90% of cyber attacks succeed because of human error. People must sit at the heart of effective cyber resilience which should focus on aligning strategic priorities, service management tools, operational systems and architectures together with ongoing training and the involvement of everyone in the business.”

Both GICSR and AXELOS support cyber resilience Best Practice and the adoption of relevant frameworks and standards.

The Global Cyber Range and RESILIA Best Practice have been designed to support and align with existing business and cyber security integration frameworks (including the NIST Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cyber Security and the NIST National Cyber Security Education Framework.

Bosch Security Systems introduces AVIOTEC video-based fire detection

Bosch Security Systems has introduced AVIOTEC, a new solution for reliable and early fire detection in challenging environments.

Building upon proven Bosch camera technology and Bosch’s Intelligent Video Analysis (IVA), video-based fire detection can supplement state-of-the-art fire detection technologies and enables the early detection of smoke and flames in environments where these cannot offer satisfactory reaction times (such as buildings with high ceilings or dusty and humid areas).

AVIOTEC can also secure environments where no other solutions exist, for example saw mills or paper factories, hangars or extremely large monitoring areas.

Detect fire at the source

Using intelligent algorithms in surveillance cameras, AVIOTEC can identify smoke and flames as soon as they come into the range of the camera instead of having to wait for smoke to migrate to state-of-the-art smoke detectors.

By detecting fires at the source rather than the ceiling, cameras can issue an alarm within seconds while for point detectors it can take minutes to detect an alarm condition.

AVIOTEC is based on intelligent algorithms to distinguish between real fires and disturbance values like reflections, movements or backlights. This guarantees a very reliable detection with almost no false alarms.

AVIOTEC offers proven detection reliability in all test fires (TF1 through TF8) as specified in EN54.

The video-based fire detection system AVIOTEC scales well from a single camera to a networked system of distributed cameras with a central console and management system. Using Bosch’s Dynamic Transcoding technology, it can relay alarms to an existing fire alarm panel or transmit them via Ethernet to a monitoring centre or even a mobile device like an iPad. Receiving HD quality video images in real-time gives the firefighters a good understanding of the current situation even before they arrive on the scene.

Combining safety and security

Cameras are easy to install and require very little maintenance in contrast to state-of-the-art smoke and flame detectors.

The use of PoE cameras (Power over Ethernet) can eliminate the need for individual power supplies and power cables, making AVIOTEC even more cost efficient.

AVIOTEC can also be used for very small and distributed facilities such as power stations and signal boxes where the benefit does not justify the installation of fire panels.
