TDSi launches EXgarde 4.4 version of integrated security software solution

TDSi has announced the launch of EXgarde 4.4, the latest version of its fully integrated access control solution. EXgarde 4.4 offers a Tenant Event Split option, Elevator Dispatch facility, integration with SimonsVoss’ wireless locking solutions, an updated EXtour Module, a security tours function and a new EXgarde Web Interface.

EXgarde 4.4 adds considerable additional functionality, as Mike Sussman (TDSi’s technical director) explained to Risk UK: “While EXgarde 4.4 shares many functions of previous versions,” said Sussman, “this latest version has been designed to incorporate a wide array of new features which add useful additional value to what’s already a heavily feature-rich and comprehensive security solution.”

Sussman continued: “The new features are designed for a myriad of uses, from giving landlords greater control over access rights to ensuring lift systems work in conjunction with access control through IP connectivity. Equally, we’ve included full integration with SimonsVoss’ wireless locking systems for improved flexibility and scope of installation, updated the EXtour module to assist security teams with their scheduled tours and designed a web interface which will give greater flexibility as to where security operators use and manage EXgarde.”

Tenant Event Split

EXgarde 4.4 allows landlords to partition visibility of system and operator events according to the tenant using them. For example, if EXgarde is overseeing a number of different facilities it will be preferable that tenants are not privy to the details of other sites or properties. Landlords can specify the access and information rights allotted to the user.

Elevator Dispatch

This special function is designed to speed up travel and ease congestion in high traffic buildings. When a key holder enters the access controlled area through the entrance/turnstile, EXgarde informs the elevator system which then calculates the quickest elevator route to their destination floor (and notifies/guides them automatically).

SimonsVoss Integration

The new version of EXgarde features full integration with the SimonsVoss SmartIntego Online locking solutions. When used in conjunction with TDSi’s core systems, this allows greater flexibility in remote areas where access control may be more difficult to implement.

Extour Module update

EXgarde PRO’s Extour Module update allows the end user to pre-define specific security tours using existing access control readers. Each specified tour defines the order in which the readers should be visited along with the set time they should be checked.

Alarms in EXtour indicate in real-time if specific tour points have not been reached, in turn alerting operators to a potential emergency situation.

EXgarde Web Interface

TDSi’s new web interface allows security operators/users to log into the server via their chosen web browser. This permits access to key functionality, such as adding and removing key holders and keys, remote door control, basic reporting and live event monitoring.

EXgarde 4.4 is available in three options to match the applications of the operator/end user:

  • EXgarde Express: Entry level version designed for a single site and up to 32 doors with limited features
  • EXgarde PRO: Advanced level, feature-rich version which is multi-site compatible and can control up to 32 doors. An upgrade to ‘Unlimited’ is also available
  • EXgarde Enterprise: Unlimited door version designed for enterprise-level operations

*For further details on EXgarde 4.4 visit www.tdsi.co.uk

TDSi to introduce benefits of MIFARE Plus and DESFire compatible readers at IFSEC International 2015

Integrated security solutions developer TDSi will be introducing the benefits of its new range of readers to visitors on Stand F1100 at IFSEC International 2015. Models in the range, which include new versions of the company’s MIFARE and Proximity Readers, are all compatible with MIFARE Plus and DESFire for added end user security and flexibility.

The new range of readers is an important addition to TDSi’s product catalogue. “Readers are a staple ingredient for many security access systems,” said managing director John Davies, “so we’ve listened closely to our customers, installers and partners to ensure these products offer exactly what’s needed and that we can stay ahead of the curve with regards to real security requirements.”

MIFARE Plus compatibility was highlighted as a central component in the development of the new TDSi readers. MIFARE Plus and DESFire technology provides even higher levels of security while maintaining the flexibility and affordability which has made the original MIFARE technology so popular.

Research suggests that installing/upgrading and using the MIFARE Plus and DESFire reader technology can cut the threat from cloned cards by 50%. For a small difference in cost, the end user customer can achieve the peace of mind of a more secure platform.

With backwards compatibility and several variant combinations, the new readers also ensure previous card reading investments are not made redundant by an upgrade and are suitable for all applications. This also offers the option to operate different types of cards on the same network, continuing the use of existing cards where appropriate until a full upgrade is ready to be implemented.

As well as the new readers, TDSi will also be showcasing the variety and versatility of its security product range, from one door applications through to multi-site systems. On display will be the company’s SOLOgarde, MICROgarde and EXcel controllers, as well as TDSi’s enterprise solutions, along with the combined possibilities of its software products (including EXgarde security management and VUgarde CCTV software integration).

Stand F1100 will be showing visitors the integration options of TDSi’s products with the expert security systems of other providers. Product and marketing manager Sarah Phillips told Risk UK: “The latest version of our complete security solution, EXgarde 4.4, has been designed to operate with the systems of other specialist providers in their field. This includes Milestone’s video surveillance solutions, Simons Voss’ wireless locking products, ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio locking systems and Texecom’s intruder systems.”

The company will also be presenting the considerable benefits of joining its partner scheme, which includes support for growth and business development for members, as well as offering comprehensive technical support.

Phillips concluded: “We’re keen to discuss how our partner programme has been developed to fully meet individual customer needs and to ensure that our partners receive the exact level of support they need. The TDSi team will be available on Stand F1100 throughout IFSEC International 2015 to talk to visitors whatever their security needs.”

Showsec on fast track to more success in wake of Silverstone contract win

Event security and crowd management specialist Showsec has won a new contract with one of the UK’s most iconic sporting venues. The company is now providing its services at Silverstone, the world-renowned home of the Formula One British Grand Prix as well as many other high profile motor racing events in the sporting calendar.

The contract win represents a highly-significant development for Showsec as the company endeavours to develop an even stronger presence within the world of sport.

The greatest events in British motor racing take place at the Northamptonshire circuit during the course of a packed programme which runs from the end of March right through to the beginning of November.

Showsec has won a prestigious security and safety contract at Silverstone

“This is a prestigious opportunity for the company to work with a venue which rightfully enjoys iconic status in the world of sport and, indeed, beyond that arena,” explained Richard Church, Showsec’s regional manager for the Midlands. “We feel privileged to be given this chance of playing a key role in upholding that proud reputation over the busy programme of events which lies ahead, and look forward to this being the start of a long-term relationship with the client.”

Church added: “We believe there’s real synergy between Silverstone and ourselves in terms of the commitment to customer experience. Our own experience of successfully delivering crowd management and security plans for large-scale sporting events, such as the Tour de France last year, will certainly be of value to us in undertaking this exciting new challenge.”

Showsec is now drawing on its strong management infrastructure to lead operations at Silverstone over the coming months. The contract delivery will be headed up by Church and East Midlands area manager Joe Milner. Further support for account manager Chris Senior will be provided by area managers Ieuan Fury and Louise Stockden.

“The size and scale of this opportunity is highlighted by the fact that there are motor racing events virtually every weekend across a seven-month period,” stated Church. “The circuit does have its own in-house security team, though. In some cases, such as for smaller events, we will be providing support to that team, but at the other end of the scale there are massive occasions such as the British Grand Prix.”

Bulgaria’s prime security provider SOT chooses Winsted for Control Room furniture project

Control Room furniture developer Winsted has been chosen to equip a stunning new Control Room on behalf of Bulgaria’s leading security provider SOT 161.

Specialising in the delivery of a highly professional and focused range of security services, SOT is Bulgaria’s largest security provider. The company’s 4,500 security staff protect more than 85,000 sites across the country, all of which are managed centrally from the National Operations Centre in Sofia.

The National Operations Centre runs on a 24/7, 365 days a year basis and monitors the assets of numerous companies and properties, including Embassy residencies, Government buildings, banks, High Street stores, sports facilities, hotels, car dealerships, offices and ATMs.

SOT realised that the company’s staff had to be able to operate effectively in the Control Room as this is a major factor when it comes to influencing the response time and outcome of incidents. An ergonomic solution was a must.

Winsted was invited to provide ideas for the Control Rooms’ furniture requirements and duly produced computer-aided design (CAD) drawings and colour renders giving a complete visualisation of the project.

The SOT Control Room

The SOT Control Room

While great importance was given to workstations having an optimum ergonomic design, the use of space and aesthetics were also important considerations in selecting the correct console design and space layout for the Control Room.

Winsted proposed and delivered a solution based on a Prestige Sight-Line console, with a stand-alone M-View media wall selected for its modern aesthetics within a contemporary environment. Console design allows for 19” rack-mounted electronic equipment, while Winsted’s Versa-Trak display mounting system affords ergonomic comfort and ‘adjustability’.

Combined with VESA-compliant brackets, Versa-Trak has enabled screens to be easily attached and provides horizontal and vertical adjustability for optimal viewing angles and sight lines for the operating staff.

Also incorporated into the console design is an enhanced cable management system consisting of a large dual-cable raceway hidden inside the console, in turn keeping all cables hidden from view but easily accessible.

“The aim of the new Control Room was to create a solution that meets current requirements while at the same time affording flexibility for future extension needs,” commented Darren Allen, Winsted’s European sales manager. “Combined with the modern interior, the console design really does give the space a ‘wow’ factor.”

Samsung Techwin safeguards the Holy Shroud in Turin during 2015 Exposition

More than two million pilgrims are expected in Turin for the 2015 Exposition of the Holy Shroud, which is taking place in the city’s cathedral from 19 April to 24 June. As was the case in 2010, the Enzo Hruby Foundation is collaborating with Samsung Techwin to protect the relic by dint of employing the latest generation of video surveillance technology.

Turin-based Centro Sistemi Antifurto designed and installed the video surveillance system required to monitor the areas dedicated to the Exposition, as well as the route to be taken by visitors and its surrounding areas. Images captured by the Samsung Techwin cameras are being recorded and transmitted in real-time to an operations centre at the police headquarters in Turin, in turn enabling a quick response should any incidents arise.

Riello UPS has contributed to the success of the project by supplying the emergency power supply units for the system.

“The Committee was firmly dedicated to ensuring absolute peace of mind for everyone involved while the event takes place,” explained Maurizio Baradello, director general of the Organising Committee for the Exposition. “It was an objective that all the parties involved in the project aimed to meet within a climate of positive co-operation.”

Surveillance and security services provided by law enforcement agencies are in place in the Exposition area and supported in their task by the surveillance network made available thanks to the Committee.

“We’re proud to have been able to offer our support in protecting the Exposition of the Holy Shroud for the second time,” said Carlo Hruby, vice-president of the Enzo Hruby Foundation. “The project is gratifying not only because of the object on which it is focused, but also due to the excellent co-operation that has been forged between public entities and the companies that joined us. It’s a unique project dedicated to an event with a global reach and a very high symbolic value.”

Hruby continued: “It’s also part of our Foundation’s commitment to protect ecclesiastical treasures, which alone make up about 70% of Italy’s entire cultural heritage. A heritage which, together with the most important and well-known treasures and monuments, consists of a myriad of churches and oratories scattered throughout the country, very often without adequate protection against theft and vandalism. As a matter of fact, in 2014, as in previous years, churches were the places that saw the greatest number of thefts of cultural objects. Our hope is that a project focused on protection on such a large scale may also act as a stimulus to communicate the possibilities that technology offers us when it comes to protecting these buildings in an affordable way.”

The camera installation

Samsung Techwin’s SNP-5430H 1.3 Megapixel HD weatherproofed PTZ auto-tracking speed domes are among the cameras deployed. The powerful 43x zoom capability of the SNP-5430H is enhanced by an auto-tracking feature which allows operators to monitor the movement of people or vehicles while remaining hands-free to control other cameras.

SNO-6084RP 2 Megapixel Full HD Bullet cameras have also been installed. Part of the Samsung Techwin WiseNetIII range, the SNO-6084RP is equipped with a motorised varifocal lens and built-in IR illuminators and readily able to capture high quality images whatever the lighting conditions.

For this particular project, the images from the cameras are being recorded onto a Samsung Techwin SRN-1000 NVR. With 24 Tb of on-board video storage capacity, the Linux-based SRN-1000 is more than capable of storing all the images captured by the cameras during the event, as well as providing operators with the ability to quickly search and review video of any incidents.

The SNO-6084RP 2 Megapixel Full HD bullet camera

The SNO-6084RP 2 Megapixel Full HD bullet camera

“Samsung Techwin’s technological contribution to this project is part of a wider context that sees our company involved in making the latest innovative security and video surveillance technology generally accessible,” said Fabio Andreoni, Samsung Techwin Europe’s country manager for Italy.

“This philosophy is fully consistent with the intentions and goals of the Enzo Hruby Foundation with whom we are pleased to co-operate for such important projects. Our contribution to protecting Italy’s immense artistic and cultural heritage is also supported by the idea that all of this can be of help in terms of feeding a virtuous circle which is able to generate benefits for all involved, including the institutions, law enforcement agencies and private companies. In particular, we can benefit visitors to the Exposition who are able to safely enjoy the experience with complete peace of mind.”

Intergrated Security Manufacturing shortlisted in Benchmark Innovation Awards 2015

Intergrated Security Manufacturing (ISM) – a specialist in the design, development and manufacture of Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) technology – has been shortlisted in the Site Protection Software category of the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2015 for its Genesys V2 software platform.

Genesys is a fully-integrated PSIM technology suitable for entry level applications that require the integration of up to two different hardware solutions through to very complex solutions. It allows multiple computer systems from different manufacturers to be incorporated into one holistic security system.

At its core, the technology enables every electronic security or fire safety device – from CCTV and intruder alarms to electronic locking and public address systems – to be monitored and controlled from one single platform. This not only brings greater control for end users with automatic escalation of selected alarm scenarios but also decreases operating costs against traditional security guarding.

Importantly, Genesys features Migrating 3+, a patented automatic failover technology that adds high levels of automatic configurable redundancy with control diffused across all PCs on a given network. This effective distribution scenario means that security is never compromised: if one PC fails then control is seamlessly migrated to another with no interruptions.

Stephen Smith of Intergrated Security Manufacturing

Stephen Smith of Intergrated Security Manufacturing

Genesys also provides the operator with a high resolution 2D or 3D image that affords an instant overview of onsite maps while all activity is recorded on a log such that detailed reports or audit trails can be created.

Stephen Smith, managing director of ISM, said that to be shortlisted is clear evidence for both existing and prospective customers that ISM is a true innovator in its field.

“Innovation is at the very core of our business,” explained Smith. “For Genesys to be shortlisted in the 2015 Benchmark Innovation Awards is testament to the many hours that we commit to driving the security sector forward.”

For this year’s awards, Benchmark will be collaborating with UBM – the organiser of IFSEC International – to present the Innovation Arena. As such, nominated companies like ISM will be invited to deliver a presentation of their product to an audience of installers, integrators, end users and other professionals currently seeking innovative security management solutions for their buildings.

Showsec receives praise of the highest order for VE Day security and safety operations in London

Prime Minister David Cameron was among those who saluted the contribution of Showsec to the special London-based celebrations which marked the 70th Anniversary of VE Day.

The crowd management and event security specialist has received acclaim from several quarters for its part in the staging of events over a three-day period in the capital that remembered the occasions when the Second World War came to an end, and it was while members of the Showsec team were drawing a week of duties to a conclusion that they had an impromptu meeting with the Prime Minister at the iconic Horse Guards Parade.

“The Prime Minister was out jogging on the Tuesday evening,” explained operations executive Andrew Agnew. “We acknowledged him as he went past and he made a point of stopping to thank us and to tell us that we had all done a fantastic job on such a great occasion.”

Indeed, this is a view which has been echoed by other organisations with whom Showsec was proud to operate alongside for a celebration of such huge national significance.

Showsec helped to make the special VE Day Anniversary celebrations in central London a great success

Showsec helped to make the special VE Day Anniversary celebrations in central London a great success

The VE Day celebrations presented an opportunity to work again with the BBC’s Special Events team who broadcast live many of the special moments across the three days, and most notably A Party To Remember – the concert staged at Horse Guards Parade which featured performances by veteran rockers Status Quo and Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

Guy Freeman, editor of special events at BBC Events, said: “Thank you so much to Showsec for helping to create a very special show at incredibly short notice. I do mean it when I say that it’s a show of which we can all be incredibly proud in every respect. Every department excelled itself to turn what were just ideas on paper into an extraordinarily powerful, evocative and poignant tribute marking an extremely special generation.”

Chief Inspector Mark Chatfield from the Metropolitan Police Service has also stated that it had been a “pleasure” working with the Showsec team on the celebrations.

Main focus of the security operation

While a workforce of almost 700 Showsec staff was deployed throughout the week, the main focus of the whole operation was on events that took place in St James’s Park, including a vehicular display and the concert in Horse Guard’s Parade as well as a Veterans Parade.

Following a Service of Thanksgiving on the Sunday morning, that parade took both veterans and current servicemen from Westminster Abbey to St James’s Park where they were welcomed at a reception hosted by The Royal British Legion.

“Though this was essentially a big celebration, the high profile of those individuals in attendance combined with the circumstances in general at the time meant there was a heightened level of security throughout,” explained Dayo Adelugba, Showsec’s area manager for West London.

“As well as VE Day itself, we had recently had the arrival of a Royal baby and right on the eve of this event there had, of course, been the General Election as well. These were all important considerations in planning the security protocol with a high level of attention to detail necessary at every stage in the process.”

Adelugba added: “Given those circumstances there were many challenges in front of us but, due to a fantastic team effort, everything went very well and everyone seemed happy. The event gave us the opportunity to build a closer working relationship with some important key stakeholders in the capital.”
