‘Big Weekend’ ahead for Showsec’s Scotland operation

24-25 June 2014 is Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2014. Taking place on Glasgow Green, the two-day event represents a big step forward for Showsec in terms of the development of its Scottish operation.

The crowd management and event security specialist will play an important part in helping to deliver what’s being described as the best-ever Big Weekend, with a star-studded line-up that features Coldplay (who’ll be airing tracks from their latest album Ghost Stories, which has only just been released), Kings of Leon, Katy Perry and One Direction.

In fact, Radio 1’s Big Weekend is the latest in a series of high-profile events in which Showsec will be working with the BBC north of the border in 2014, and therefore represents a significant boost to the development of the company’s Scotland office over the next few months.

“This is a landmark agreement for the company in Scotland,” proclaimed Scott Anderson, Showsec’s regional manager for Scotland. “The Scottish office has been open for four years now, and this is a major step forward as we look to develop that operation.”

Anderson also stated: “Scotland is the place to be over the next few months with so many exciting events, and we’re delighted to be figuring prominently in many of them while at the same time providing many job opportunities for people in the region.”

Memorable summer north of the border

The opportunity for Showsec to work with the BBC in what promises to be a memorable summer north of the border comes on top of the fact that the company has also landed a three-year contract for the T in the Park Festival, which takes place in July.

In the countdown to this coming weekend, Showsec was on duty at the Riverside Museum for the BBC Radio 1Xtra Live event which proceeded extremely smoothly.

More than 50,000 people are expected to attend Radio 1’s Big Weekend on Glasgow Green this Saturday and Sunday, while a large number of tickets have been snapped up for an additional DJ-led event in George Square headlined by Tiesto on Friday 23 May.

“It’s being billed as the best-ever line-up for a Big Weekend, so it should make for a fantastic three days of live music,” added Anderson. “Scottish crowds are renowned for being quite lively and rowdy, so we are expecting it to be one big party from start to finish.”

Showsec will have 300 staff on duty at the Big Weekend. Other artists who will be performing over the two days include Tinie Tempah, The Vamps, Calvin Harris, Bastille and Pharrell.
