The Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) – one of the UK’s leading fire, security and telecare certification bodies – has awarded a certificate to the latest company applying under its new BAFE SP205 UKAS-accredited scheme.
Michael Clifford, the managing director of Beacon Fire Safety, was formally presented with the certificate during a ceremony held recently at the Fire Industry Association’s (FIA) Middlesex headquarters. The ceremony was attended by SSAIB consultant Geoff Rendall.
The SSAIB’s recently introduced SP205 scheme enables anyone who’s required by law to carry out a fire risk assessment of a premises – and who employs a specialist third party company to provide this – to demonstrate that they’ve taken the necessary reasonable steps that ensure compliance with their legal obligations and requirements under current fire safety legislation.
Range of fire risk assessments
Beacon Fire Safety is the consultancy side of West Sussex-based MK Fire Training Ltd. The company offers a range of fire risk assessments and fire safety advice through its experienced, qualified and CRB-cleared assessors.
“We operate a nationwide service and have a number of consultants, all of whom are members of the Institution of Fire Engineers,” explained Michael Clifford.
“Gaining SP205 certification will assist us in demonstrating to both our existing and potential clients that we’re a competent provider of fire risk assessments, and that we are serious about proving this commitment to them.”
Besides those responsible for carrying out fire risk assessments, the SSAIB’s independent third party certification service also benefits fire risk assessment providers, who can use their SSAIB accreditation to attract end user customers.
